  1. Barring significant injury or multiple players cratering, the trade deadline can be as much about 2017 as 2016, even with higher prices. Hammel is a FA after the season and Lackey will be 38. Wood, Cahill, and Richard are FA with Strop a year behind. Getting multiple years of control of a good reliever is never not necessary, even if the rotation looks good in July.
  2. potentially hot take: that is not a hard catch to make
  3. PLEASE VOTE IN THIS IMPORTANT POLL Will Fowler ever make an out again? [] No [] Nope [] Out?
  4. the bullpen is going to have like a .001 combined WPA from holding 5 run leads all year
  5. Miggy seems like a weird guy to do an extreme shift against.
  6. Yeah, that had a lot more backspin than I thought off the bat, must've been Fowler's reaction too.
  7. that was the most...lopsided(?) pickoff I've seen in a very long time. He wasn't even close to being safe.
  8. That seems as good a reason as any that isn't a hidden injury, although I do wonder if he'd consider Zobrist at SS instead if forced to.
  9. The idea of Kobe finally getting another ring as some schmuck off of the bench is pretty damn funny. Would he even know what to do? http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Charlie-Kelly-Blocks-Kid-in-Basketball-as-a-Ref.gif
  10. I'll bet you an internet dollar that he's behind Trout by the end of the year this year. Trout has some catching up to do! He's 172 points behind.
  11. Day game tomorrow (Ross) against Bettis(who I believe throws predominantly 4 seam FBs) make for a good spot for Soler to be thrown right back into the lineup too. Also, Did you know? La Stella's .491 wOBA would have ranked #1 of any qualified hitter in MLB last year.
  12. Doesn't appear to be much explanation. Maybe keeping a promise to him? He was scheduled to start today, against New Orleans, the team he's now on.
  13. For comparison, Cardinals opponents are 5-12 in games not against the Cards.
  14. The Dbacks have an early lead on LA, if that holds, Cubs opponents this year will be 13-5 in games not against the Cubs.
  15. The Reds have a Holt but his first name isn't one syllable can't they do anything right
  16. Assuming a win tonight, the Cubs are 50-19 since the trade deadline passed last year.
  17. Dewees with 3 hits, including a double. He's the new McKinney
  18. I assume Brennaman left the booth around the Russell at bat and won't return til the 4th inning. Viewers won't notice til at least the 3rd.
  19. so unintentional walk, Lackey lucks into a single, then that's it for Simon, right? edit: nope, can't leave that up for Russell
