  1. Honest question, is his approach actually GB heavy, or does it just look that way because it's impossible to strike him out in the minors?
  2. Not a strong conviction, but my guess is both skip Myrtle Beach but the question is how much time they spend in Arizona first.
  3. I don't think everyone needs to have a hyper specific plan for every potential move, but I do think it's worth thinking about the possible outcomes before judging the decision to make/not make a move. The thing I keep coming back to is that the *best case* scenarios I'm reading from trading Taillon are 'we functionally keep Taillon(similar player on similar deal), and we add a possible bullpen/platoon guy to the roster'. To me that is not enough upside to deal with the downsides, which Squally has fairly clearly outlined. This isn't to suggest that Taillon is locked in to a certain level of future production, but also the risks that exist with him are fairly universal.
  4. That's really the crux of the issue, do you think the Cubs can be competitive in 2025? If not then you should probably fire Jed yesterday and let someone who doesn't need a 5 year timeline handle a teardown of the 2026 FAs. But if you do, you should make moves with 2025 competitiveness in mind because the outlook is far from dire.
  5. wow, if my research is accurate this guy has been playing baseball for years, great pick
  6. Immediately thought of this tweet but for the Rockies
  7. Love this pick. What's his name? What position does he play?
  8. The eyeball icon, you can either click it and then type in the box that's created, or highlight the spoilered text and then hit the eyeball.
  9. they also Alex Gonzalez'd two batters earlier https://www.mlb.com/gameday/yankees-vs-orioles/2024/07/14/747009/final/video
  10. I'm not all that high on (Malcolm) Moore, but he did hit .311 his freshman year so it's not as if there's a hard limitation he's hitting at the college level. Plus he's at the position with the lowest offensive bar to clear.
  11. To reiterate from last offseason, having 5 good players for 4 spots is not crowded nor a problem needing solving. Injuries, rest, and performance ebbs/flows will make that pretty much irrelevant, it's 130 games/person on average. Especially when this logjam requires 2 prospects seizing spots at a level they haven't yet demonstrated an ability to perform at, along with Bellinger not opting out.
  12. Also we’ve reached the ‘stupid’ level of summer heat + humidity here, it might be pushing it to get 2 outings out of any reliever.
  13. He’s almost certainly not using 5 of them, no? I figure this is maximizing the pen since Assad won’t be needed for about 10 days to start anyway.
  14. There isn't a perfect correlation with his performances, but I strongly suspect that rest/recovery is a differentiator here. I kinda wonder if they went to a 6 man for a minute with him pitching on 5-7 days rest all the time if he'd be much different than what we could reasonably expect from Wicks, or even Assad if you're bearish on him.
  15. Roberts hasn't pitched since he was demoted, so I'm guessing he's the other one with Assad. The only other options would be Palencia(pitched on Thursday, probably not ready) or Merryweather/Kilian(pitched on Friday, probably not ready)
  16. Yeah he was holding the arm pretty still, really bummed for him
  17. Minor League FA they picked up from the Phillies, I believe around the time Ballesteros got promoted. 27 y/o non-prospect
  18. Mastrobuoni now hitting .346/.393/.385 since his recall
  19. pretty amused by the 'wait, really?' hesitation from Amaya that Burleson was actually running
