  1. The New York media sure thinks they know a lot about the inner secrets of the Cubs organization all of a sudden.
  2. There’s a really good Stockholm syndrome/mormon joke here that is just beyond my grasp
  3. They are similar to 2016 because they put Rizzo there for 25% of the season and he put up a .979 OPS at leadoff. It’s not high on the priority list but there is a lack of a good person for that role that gets a ton of PA. Zobrist is probably a better option than most reasonable external options though.
  4. By my count, the absolute maximum number of days Russell can spend on the roster is about 153. At least with the Cubs schedule, other teams might be a day or two different.
  5. 4 very good relievers, 2 dead weights and the hope that Chatwood's brain isn't broken anymore, with Morrow on his way back. I want one more reliever personally, but unless someone else goes down(looking at you Carl) I think it's fine.
  6. They have to be thinking that Hamels is a near lock for 30 starts and 3+, maybe 4+ WAR. Otherwise they're in the category where a tactical buy-low addition gets you really close to Hamels production. To quote myself since literally nothing has happened since then:
  7. It is important to remember that the Cubs do still have the best roster in the division. It'd just be real nice if they pushed it back above the typical margin for error in those projections instead of doing nothing.
  8. So that podcast is just him telling the story of how he did it once the statute of limitations expires?
  9. Dabo's recruiting didn't really pick up til he won 10 games and went to the Orange bowl, and he's averaged more than 12 (!) wins per season since then. The rest of those teams are among the richest schools around who are recruiting heavyweights regardless of coach.
  10. I know you're not advocating for this route personally, but that is such a terrible course of action. Like shockingly inexcusably bad decision making from the front office. That's why this is so confusing. The more the offseason goes on and more relievers go off the board, the more it seems clear they're hamstrung financially. And if that's true, that means that the front office made easily the dumbest choice of their tenure in picking up Hamels, a choice so terrible that I can't help but try to think of other circumstances where it might otherwise make sense, given the front office's track record at not making inexplicably bad decisions.
  11. "Then why did you give Cole Hamels 20 million dollars", he screamed into a pillow in between shots of bleach
  12. I think it says the guy on the Yankees/Mets beat has no idea what the Cubs plan is.
  13. Spin Rate is stolen bases for nerds, a secondary skill that is undeniably positive, but weighted way too highly by enthusiasts
  14. Ah, Javy may never be better than a 5+ win MVP candidate? Shame. Next-gen Placido Polanco
  15. [tweet] [/tweet]
  16. *looks at forward list* Me too.
  17. His injuries may have played a role in that right? Somewhat, but he didn't get better after coming back from injury(6+ ERA in September), injuries beget injuries, and he'll be 34 by Memorial Day.
  18. Kinda glad we avoided him. His contract wasn’t bad or anything but would hope we are aiming higher. Robertson, Allen, Ottavino, Britton (if medicals check out and they feel good), etc. Robertson is the only one of those guys I'd prefer to Soria(and it's close), especially at 2/17. The only available reliever who has been better than Soria the last 2 years is Kimbrel, and available and unavailable there's been less than 10 relievers better in that timeframe.
  19. January camp roster: [tweet] [/tweet] I like Tyler Miller's potential, but we're calling him in instead of recognizing any of the age 30+ keepers that are miles better than him? I mean, at least call in Hamid if you're terrified of Frei or Melia maybe being out of prime come 2022. On a homer note, hopefully this is the break where Roldan actually gets some real minutes. I'm not sure he's an international stalwart, but he's 23 and the same caliber as Acosta but can't get more than garbage time, and never seems to get discussed as a real option compared to jokers like Trapp and Delgado.
  20. A Cubs-Sinclair Partnership May be Cause for Concern tl;dr Sinclair owns a ton of local over-the-air networks(and also the Tennis Channel for some reason), and has a history of yanking them off the air in disputes over retransmission fees. In a scenario where Sinclair owns the Cubs Network(they also bid on those Fox RSNs), they could leverage those OTAs to screw over cable subscribers further, and make local blackouts like the Dodgers more likely.
  21. This is the logic that got Schwarber an outfield assist every 2 weeks last year.
  22. you were afraid of the Cubs making more money with their new tv deal?
  23. Yeah, if that rumor is true then I’m cancelling MLB.tv. I was already thinking about how many games I get thru Youtube TV( national + cardinals + MLBN simulcasts is like 50 games i think), and this would make it a real easy choice.
