  1. Baez having more bat speed than anyone is not the same as having bat speed to spare. His swing is not particularly compact and losing a tick to merely be 'elite' bat speed could have significant consequences. Players who lean that hard on their physical gifts to be really good don't have extra room for error against decline.
  2. Hendricks had an ERA+ around 110 the first half of 2017, so if that's the downside the downside is that he's basically an average starter.

  4. well he sure can't rely on FedEx to get his passport to him
  5. You say that like other pictures exist knew it was coming as I typed it
  6. picking a photo where he's hitting a ground ball is just mean, imo
  7. I think the idea is that the gap between Leon and alternative backup C's offense is only a handful of runs over the 200-250 PA they would expect him to get. If you think there's a similar profile(Rivera could definitely be that) I don't know too many Leon Or Bust enthusiasts, but he seems to have the defense/experience that might actually prompt Maddon to play him and make sure Contreras doesn't wear down again, and he's definitely available.
  8. by far the richest team in the division won the division twice in ten years. If you’re gonna be intellectually dishonest, at least it’s good to be really obvious about it?
  9. They’ve been incredibly successful for a multi-year time horizon. I know cynic/nihilist is the default state for many, but it’s not out of place to point out when hand-wringing the choice of 4th outfielder.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet] I know that we’re pretty spoiled, but Theos roster decisions are increasingly inexplicable.
  11. If tomorrow started a playoff series he should be on the playoff roster, although not by a huge margin. YMMV on how much some regular ABs at Iowa will help him improve from that point.
  12. Happ has 1 year and 142 days of service time, he’d have to basically spend the whole year in Iowa to get an extra year out of him.
  13. That’d be 13, Caratini/Bote/Descalso are the 3 locks before making that call. This distinction snuck up on me, I guess we spent so long with a position player on the DL I forgot Bote and La Stella were competing for a roster spot at full strength. LaStella? Yes, talking about last year’s roster. This year he’s embodied by Descalso
  14. That’s what I was thinking too, but wasn’t there room for Happ and Adames with Russell being suspended? Or would that be 13 position player guys? That’d be 13, Caratini/Bote/Descalso are the 3 locks before making that call. This distinction snuck up on me, I guess we spent so long with a position player on the DL I forgot Bote and La Stella were competing for a roster spot at full strength.
  15. Adames makes the roster as a 2nd SS and Descalso/Bote get Happ’s PAs via Zobrist flexing to RF?
  16. Eh, 31. He was already under control for his age 31 season.
  17. extending a 32 year old first baseman what could go wrong
  18. This could be a fun gold cup - at least its real games. Has Jordan Morris done anything since college? 3 goals and an assist in the first 3 games of the MLS season. He's always going to be a bit of a blunt instrument at the international level, but he's gotta be the top candidate for the RW spot right now, especially with Pulisic already being penciled in the middle.
  19. No, there isn't a good reason, you should basically pick every 9 through 12 or 13 seed in the first round at the very least. Someone did that underdog scoring online(Facebook?) a while back and it made for some very silly results(brackets with four 16 seeds in the final 4 being high on leaderboards late into the second weekend).
  20. Hendricks, probably Contreras If Contreras' agent had advised him to sign any extension with his value at its low point since arriving in MLB, I would hope he would be fired for malpractice. That assumes that you're trying to extend Contreras as if he's last year's player forever. Sure you might discount some on his 2017 performance, but Willson hasn't made life changing money in MLB yet so there's some benefit to locking in on his end too.
  21. The incredulity he had for each individual record was really cracking me up.
  22. Hendricks, probably Contreras
  23. Just because it needs periodic repeating, Adman had a .563 OPS in 450+ PA at Myrtle Beach, five six three
