  1. Leicester’s trajectory is definitely disappointing, but I think I saw today that they have 2 guys making 100k/week (their opponent today has 10 with a bunch of those over 200k), and that this was their 2nd season in 57 years in the Top 5(this might be slightly off but the spirit is true). Since they were the ones who won it a few years ago I think we understate the degree of an upset their position is. As for Chelsea, this is likely just me wanting to see more Pulisic, but I could see them pulling off a Liverpool v. Barca against Bayern, who will have been a month since their last competitive match(and locked up the title early too).
  2. It’s been so long that I had forgotten how much better JD is than basically every other analyst around
  3. NWSL Cup final between Chicago and Houston on big CBS right now. I'm no diehard but following Chicago a bit from a distance seems like they're a consistently strong team, and they have a couple USWNT stalwarts in Ertz and Naeher. Also if you're into jerseys, both of theirs this year are tremendous. You can't quite make it out but the blue stripes in the white kit spell out every neighborhood in the city. Also both jerseys have an outline of the skyline on the back.
  4. I know he’s at the bottom of the pecking order, but following Darvish feels like not the best way to set up Underwood for success
  5. Okay now I see why they didn’t do virtual fans for pitcher/batter view, it’s a horrorshow
  6. 50+ minutes in and we head to the bottom of the 2nd of a 1-1 game, brutal
  7. Right call by Javy. Bryant threw the ball too early and let Cain off the hook. Cain was still an easy out before he started caring about the other runner.
  8. It’s a tough job, but Caratini lost multiple strikes for Yu that inning. He has a hard enough time without losing 20% of non-swings
  9. The fake fans thing seems extra pointless if they’re not doing it during pitcher/batter shots and only in super specific instances
  10. Same, I'm not a big fan of the second leadoff bit they're doing with Happ, but he's had enough inconsistency that I'm okay with him hitting his way up the lineup as long as he gets that shot.
  11. that Brewers lineup on the other hand, man that's doing a lot of hoping that Hiura keeps a .400 BABIP and that Smoak and Braun aren't washed
  12. that lineup is doing a lot of things I like or maybe a better way to say it is that lineup is avoiding a lot of the mistakes I might be afraid of
  13. does youtube tv have espn? (even if youtubetv had marquee you wouldn't be able to watch outside of the cubs viewing area - but you can on MLB.tv - for games that aren't already being nationally televised, that is) Yes, YTTV has basically every near-mainstream sports channel save for maybe NFL Network.
  14. [tweet]https://twitter.com/BromleySoccer/status/1286444533379735555[/tweet]
  15. oh no, Wigan tied their last 2 matches and missed being safe even with the administration penalty by 2 points
  16. How sure are we that Friedman is not imprisoned in his own home/had his family kidnapped, because this is just what a distress signal for him would look like
  17. And if he's playing anything like he did in MLS, he puts out no defensive effort and basically commands that the entire offensive structure be about giving him crosses. It's telling that in a team that had 2 Mexico regulars, Lletget, and Pavon(for half the year); that Zlatan outscored the rest of the team combined and they barely made the playoffs.
  18. I'm still not sure I have any feelings towards this abbreviated season, but I'm comforted that the immediate righteous anger at Kris Bryant being underrated nationally hasn't left me.
  19. 95 pitchers got 20+ PA last year, 80 of them had a batting average higher than .053(35/650). Yes those guys are much better athletes and a chunk of them were hitters at a higher level than high school, but I think it's instructive that you're talking about a limitation that's as much a physical pass/fail than it is about particular skill. If you assume in that hypothetical that you're a pro baseball player who is working on their swing/bat speed/pitch recognition occupationally, I think there's plenty of regular joes who get 10-15, and a subset of regular folks with beyond HS experience and/or very good physical attributes(eyesight, twitch reaction) could probably get to 35.
  20. My favorite(if it's not gauche to call it a favorite) recent soccer story is of Wigan Athletic in the Championship. They have changed owners twice in the last couple years, and despite having very little debt relative to their peers, they were strangely put into administration less than a month after being sold in June. There are numerous theories on why, my favorite which is semi-plausible is the owners are trying to ensure they get relegated(administration carries a 12 point penalty) so a big bet from the Phillippines pays off: [tweet] [/tweet] However, Wigan the team is basically going full Major League amidst that backdrop, they currently lead Hull 7-0 at halftime, and with only 2 games after today they have a reasonable shot of avoiding relegation even after the points deduction.
  21. And that wasn't even the most inexplicable thing that happened in that game! Sporting had the lead because Tyler Miller got so excited to cut off a centered pass that he ran away from the ball and goal [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. Some great examples of how dumb I am/weird MLS is already here. Toronto was up 2 goals and a man at halftime and ended up drawing, Seattle played a boring 0-0 draw, Colorado got smacked by their rivals 2-0, Cincinnati got smacked even worse by theirs(Columbus), NYCFC still hasn't scored a goal this year, and Chicago hasn't played yet since they got moved into a new group after the tourney already started.
  23. I would flip that and say Atalanta has a surprisingly great shot at making the final. They're in excellent form and have enough upcoming games to be sharp but also a short break to be rested for UCL. PSG is always a bit of an unknown in Europe and they haven't played a game in 4 months. Add in that it's just 1 game and there's no home field/crowd benefit, it wouldn't shock me at all to see Atalanta win convincingly like Ajax did over Madrid and Juve last year.
