  1. Erik, I think you are being too generous. I don't think he's in a Cub uniform after the 2005 season. I have it on good authority that Hendry will do everything he can to trade Patterson during the offseason, low value or not. Hendry is absolutely pissed off at Corey's play and attitude since he has returned. And, seeing 5 pitches in 4 at bats last night was just the icing on the cake. Although he probably won't play with the major league team this year, I get the strong sense that the Felix Pie in CF era is set to start in March. Hoops Whether or not Patterson is on the team next year, Pie needs to be in AAA. Looks like we're doomed to see the same mistakes the organization made with Patterson. By the end of this year Pie will probably have almost 1500 minor league AB's, which I believe is almost double what Patterson had. I don't see how the Cubs could be accused of doing the "same" thing they did with Patterson. Pujols only had about 500 minor league AB's. Miguel Cabrera had about 1400 minor league AB's. If the guy is as good as everyone says then get him up here and don't waste a year in AAA. Patterson's inability to develop at the MLB level should not force the Cubs to keep every prospect in the minors longer. Each guy is different, and Pie might use the promotion as a catalyst to improve at a quicker pace than he would at AAA. If he doesn't, you can always send him back down to work on his game. What's the main knock against Patterson? Strike zone judgment. Pie at AA has worse plate discipline than Patterson did at AA, and that's with Pie having more AB's like you say. He needs more time to refine that portion of this game, since it is so important. Listen, I like Corey, but I'm so sick of hearing about how this is all the Cubs fault. When does Corey get some? He's always had the tools to be a average, or better MLB player............at some point COREY has utilize HIS skills to be the player he can be. He has to understand that he's not going to hit 40+ HRs a year and with his build, he may never do it. It's not just plate discipline either. He's doesn't think like a baseball player on deck, or at the plate. He very rarely takes a pitch when the pitchers struggling. How many times have you seen the guy in front of him walk and then he comes up and swings at the first pitch? He seems reluctant to cut down on his swing. If he did, he could be an all-fields hitter. Hit to the gaps and run like the wind. That would be utilizing your god given talent..............but that seems to be beneath Corey. I'm sorry, I use to make apologies for him...............I'm just not going to do it anymore. The Cubs were wrong to bring up Corey as soon as they did, how much of that has led to his struggles I don't know. You are also assuming a lot of things that you just don't know, like his mindset. Anyways, Patterson or no Patterson, my point was about Felix. Even if Patterson didn't exist, Pie isn't ready for the show. His plate discipline is just not very good, and he would definitely benefit from getting more minor league AB's to refine that before being ready, especially since his injury has robbed him of so much time. Furthermore, if Corey just doesn't have the smarts, or the mindset, or whatever, what does that say when Felix has worse discipline at AA than Corey did, when Felix has more AB's in the system at that point? Please keep Felix away from the big league club for the majority of next season for his sake.
  2. He's got one more year of arbitration, he'll be a FA after 2006.
  3. I demand pitcher ERA's to the 6th decimal point! Start over!
  4. I think that Neifi is trying to hit home runs too much with his bail out left handed swing. His right handed swing is long too, he should stop trying to be a power hitter.
  5. I'm tired of watching this team get so many errors. I want to see this offense built around speed, situational hitting and defense, not just heavily depended on power which has translated to a lot of K's and terrible clutch hitting. I know Walker is capable of the hitting part, but I want to see the D part for once. Defense is very underated, with a bad defense, you will go nowhere. I don't think I said anything about trading our good players either. Of course I want Aramis, Lee and Barrett here. I know Ramirez doesn't fit into the "great defense" but we have to have his bat. Same with Barrett, but he can keep improving behing the plate. I'd like to see Blanco back though. And I wouldn't mind seeing Damon, Jacque Jones and Pie in the OF next year. Yes, Jacque Jones. He may still be a Twin next year but it would be great to get Jones. He may K a little more than 100 times but he can win a gold glove, is a great clutch hitter, pretty good power, can still hit over 270 and a team leader, not selfish, just does what he's asked and is a team guy. Jones still has good speed, but not base stealing speed. I think all that should translate into for once, not one of the worst clutch hitting teams and RISP hitting teams. Jones, Damon, Cedeno, Pie, Hairston and Lee, that's a lot of speed. I think we would see more runs. How do you plan on getting a team that is a good "situational hitting" team, when "situational hitting" numbers vary wildly and ultimately end up around the player's career numbers?
  6. With the 55th pick, Cut for Cap Space selects, Lee Evans, Wide Receiver, Buffalo
  7. Uh, a team option means the Cubs decide whether to pick it up or not, so Walker's desire to test the market has no impact.
  8. I've never heard that(or forgotten it) about Morris, the quote about professionalism. Most that I've run into don't like him for throwing at players' heads.
  9. Again, power doesn't equal home runs. Murton may or may not hit with enough power to be a successful corner outfielder. However, the fact remains that he was the most productive outfielder we had, so he should have been playing everyday, not sent down.
  10. True in most situations, but not all. If the player feels they have to make a running correction to touch first base (i.e., slowing the legs down to make contact with the bag rather than running in stride), then a slide may be quicker in that particular situation. It is not an absolute that the slide is always slower when a running adjustment must be made to touch the base. the only time to slide is to avoid a tag. if it were ever faster you would see olympic sprinters doing it. Please pay attention. Olympic sprinters are not adjusting to touch a bag. Your natural stride doesn't always take you to the bag, it can take you under or over a bag. Hence, sometimes a slide can help someone reach quicker because it eliminates the awkward running adjustment to touch a bag. Such instances are rare, but the answer is not absolute. Considering the size of the base, and especially so for Hairston since his stride isn't that long, I'd say that the ground slows you down more than taking a half step to make sure you touch the base.
  11. 88 sounds about right. Agreed, I've always thought 90 seemed high.
  12. Showing effort, and having a desire to badly be safe at first base is classic? Why? Patterson runs full speed when he grounds out the same as Hairston. Just because he doesn't dive(which slows him down), doesn't mean that he doesn't try as hard.

  14. How is that scored? Do you calculate it like a "Reach on Error" when you compute a player's numbers?
  15. Yes, yes you could. Name some better back-up SS in MLB. Please back it up with stats. You may think Cedeno could perform better than Neifi, but you don't know that for certain. AAA stats don't compare to ML stats. Please include defense. Not to mention intagibles like leadership can't be ignored either. Only 4 SS's in baseball have worse OBP's than Perez. In order for Cedeno to NOT outproduce Perez offensively, his average would have to drop over 80 points, his OBP over 105 points, and his SLG over 135 points from his AAA numbers. Cedeno has a reputation for being a fine defensive player, far from a liability defensively. Technically, Cedeno has outproduced Perez in his short time here, when you combine their fielding and batting runs above average. I'd appreciate it if you would explain why Neifi has been a good backup SS. sm. v.s. lg. sample size yet again What are you talking about? Perez has enough AB's to qualify for a batting title, and Cedeno has over 265 plate appearances at AAA. I'd still like to see your reasoning that Neifi is a good backup.
  16. This is how I understand it. Patterson got a late jump on what I can only assume was a suicide squeeze. Someone missed a sign, because Prior swang away and hit a foul ball. Later in the AB, Prior hit a ground ball to second, Patterson tried to score, but a bad slide prevented him from scoring when he should have scored relatively easily. Again, I didn't see it, but that's how I understand it.
  17. Iowa now down 6-2, all runs charged to Mitre. Cedeno has a hit in his only AB, and Murton has a BB in his.

  20. yeah, they're going to let dubois take that "hafner" guy's spot...he sucks anyway, right? Hafner was off the DL when Dubois was traded? #-o I'm not sure if he was on the DL, but the deal coincided in some fashion with Hafner's concussion. Hafner didn't play for close to a week before being put on the DL.
  21. He's a decent 25th man, probably best suited for a defensive replacement. Anything more than that is a mistake. . And that's what he was signed to be Then why are you arguing over him starting a game?
  22. I doubt it, I think I saw a thread at WSI about the site, and many Sox fans were less than pleased with it.
