  1. If the Dodgers get Furcal then they're more likely to trade us Bradley. On the other hand, there's always Wilkerson or Michaels if we do get Furcal, just like there's Lugo and Cedeno if we don't.
  2. It might help to post links and quote the important info in those links for verification.
  3. Walker is worth more than Patterson. They will make the same salary, and Patterson has the potential to earn more. Patterson has two years of arbitration left, Walker has one year on his contract before free agency. The better production that Walker provides would likely outweigh the advantage of having Patterson for another year, even to a small market team. That said, Walker is one of the top second basemen in the league, and if teams aren't going to give much for him then we should keep him.
  4. It's the best league in the world, and it includes the best players from all over the world. No one leaves to play in Japan because of the high level competition, and players from all over the world wish to play in the MLB because it's where the best play.
  5. They're 29th in the AP and 32nd in the Coaches. They should be ranked and IMO it would be a nice thing to happen for a small program like that. They have earned it. They host number 4 Villanova a week from today. They'll definitely be up there if they can knock them off. Not to say that they shouldn't be there now, but they have another chance coming.
  6. I don't know why, but the injury was of the nagging shoulder variety I believe. If Wilkerson experienced the dropoff because of the "S", then he's been using for a long time. IsoP College(SEC) Age 19: .235 (321 PA's) 20: .381 (313 PA's) 21: .296 (317 PA's) Professional Age 22/AA: .120 (510 PA's) Age 23/AA: .254 (280 PA's) Age 23/AAA: .231 (262 PA's) Age 24/AAA: .198 (300 PA's) Age 25/MLB: .203 (600 PA's) Age 26/MLB: .196 (602 PA's) Age 27/MLB: .243 (696 PA's) Age 28/MLB: .157 (670 PA's) Given that the Minor League Steroids policy is much tougher than MLB's, and the fact that his dropoff coincided with a move to a cavernous ballpark, I think it's a pretty safe bet for Wilkerson to improve that IsoP to the .200 range, if not more if he became a Cub.
  7. I'd like to get him for less with all the talk of him being available for nothing, but this would be a good move. Yay Hendry.
  8. He also mentioned that the first team to add the 5th year probably gets him. I say do it, he is still young. I disagree. Furcal is a 2nd tier SS and I'd rather not have him much longer once Hendry and Dusty are sent packing. I could deal with 4/38M, but that's probably not an offer he accepts. Would you list the "top tier" SS in the NL then please! Also, list there availablity via free agency or trade! Thanks! Why does it matter only for the NL? As others have said before, there's: A-Rod Jeter Tejada Peralta(if he can repeat his numbers) F. Lopez(ditto Peralta) Young(if he can repeat his splits) Then there's quite a dropoff to Furcal, Renteria, and the like. That's why he's second tier.
  9. Quinn has 50+ more attempts than Leinart. Leinart has orchestrated comebacks against Fresno St., Arizona St., and to a lesser extent Oregon. Not arguing one way for either, just counter points to the ones in your argument.
  10. A .350 OBP for Wilkerson was his lowest since his 47 game debut, it followed three straight seasons of .370+ OBP, and it coincided with him moving to a monstrous home ballpark. Also, just a year ago Wilkerson put up nearly 75 XBH's, not that 60 is bad at all. Speaking of which, I wonder how many players have 60+ XBH's? EDIT: Sweet, ESPN has XBH as a category. Slightly less than 60 players had 60+ XBH's last year.
  11. I think that's very unlikely. I can't think of an instance where a contract is front-loaded.
  12. They're 29th in the AP and 32nd in the Coaches.
  13. Dellucci may not return to his numbers, but he credits his improvement to having laser eye surgery last offseason. Even aside from this year, he has been a good platoon player, and in his time with Texas he doesn't have bad home/road splits. I also hate Soriano, love Gomes, and would like Michaels for CF only.
  14. Link I'd be mad if someone threw a beer bottle at me too. The fan should have been arrested. I think they were.
  15. you're joking right? bradley has had several altercations with the police, fans, the media & management not to mention his pregnant wife. unless kent was at each of these occurences egging him on, i would say bradley is/has the problem. Iirc he had a major altercation w/ fans right before the 2004 playoffs. Can't remember if he was suspended for the playoffs or not, but heck of a time for a meltdown. Yeah, some lady threw something at him from the stands and he reacted. Can't remember if he went in the stands or not though.
  16. Yeah, at least I think so. I always thought it was a perspective thing. I thought it was undoctored, and the angle makes it look like it does.
  17. Mabry was pretty terrible last year, but his career has been much better. That said, he is getting older and he may not approach those numbers again. If signing Mabry means Lee doesn't play 162 games, then it's probably a good thing. That all said, I prefer Mark Sweeney, although I don't know if Mabry signing will preclude that.
  18. Terrible if true. Loaiza was the poster boy for the effects of RFK last year.
  19. I got 166 for you O_O. Good work.
  20. He's not that projectable, despite putting up good stats in Peoria and Daytona. His fastball (88-90) and change both project to be average at best and his curve could get pounded at higher levels. He could hone these pitches, but, physically, he's already fully grown according to most reports. Should be interesting to see how he handles better hitters, though. Interesting, I thought his fastball was better, and I guess I just assumed he had better secondary pitches because of his success.
  21. For every time Farnsworth has blown up in the playoffs, there's at least one instance where he shut the door. Yes, I'd be comfortable with him, though I'm not advocating signing him at that cost.
  22. 140 points, who's got me beat. I'm surprised Gallagher didn't even crack the top 10. What's their knock on him?
  23. Those probably influenced Farn's price Oh I'm sure they did, but I'd definitely rather have Eyre or Howry at their cost than Farnsworth at 5. If a GM gives the Farns 5 million dollars, Hendry will look very good in the contracts that he gave out to Eyre and Howry. Farnsworth is younger, has better stuff, and has better or similar success to the other two. Plus Farns has the added benefit of being a closer this year, which Howry and Eyre did not. I'd say that they are comparable deals.
