  1. Can you name 10 2B that are better than Walker, or were last year? Offensively or Defensively? Total package. Ok, after looking at the NL secondbase men only, it is easy to see how vastly we overrate T. Walker on this board. Because Walkers OBP is often the argument for keeping him I will compare based on OBP. In NL the following 2B posted a better OBP than Walker in 2005 (not all of these guys played an entire year, but neither did Walker). Loretta Polanco Utley Castillo Freel Giles E. Young Durham Kent These guys were at around Walkers OBP Counsil (Barely below) Biggio (26 HR, but 20 pts lower in OBP) Vidro (who was hurt and most would take any day over Walker) Grudz (15 pts lower in OBP) So there are at least 13 2B in the NL ALONE that had better or comparable numbers to Walker. Defensively, I would take almost every player named above over Walker, except Kent. The total package goes beyond OBP. Only 5 2B had an OPS higher than Walker, and only a couple following him were within 30 points of that mark. Walker isn't that much worse a defender than all of them. And even if he were, that still places him around the top 15 2B in baseball at worst. Not really "almost worthless".

  3. Most O's fans think that Tejada is worth more than Prior.
  4. I'm having visions of Notre Dame-Stanford.
  5. Taking a shot at the end zone on 4th and 1 was going for the jugular. Moose has the Packers' throats in his hands, then had it slip out of his hands. How far were we for a field goal? They were at the 31 I believe.
  6. Sorry to bump this thread, but do you have a page number for this quote? I tried to find it, but couldn't. Page 235 in my copy, in the chapter titled "Anatomy of an Undervalued Pitcher".
  7. I bought Curve Ball nine months ago, and I haven't made it to page 20. Dense stuff.
  8. I think I'd move one of the prospects Tampa gets to Boston, they don't seem to be getting the correct return for Manny, Arroyo, and Marte. Probably move Hill to Boston. You may be right there....but they are getting three holes filled by moving Manny and Arroyo. I'm not sure that Tampa would give up those three for only Dopirak, Marte and Guzman. What about taking Marte out, removing Gathright and sending Patterson from the Cubs to Boston and Boston sending a lesser prospect to Tampa. The deal could look like this: Orioles get: Manny and Arroyo Cubs get Tejada Boston gets Patterson, Lugo, and Huff Devil Rays get: Dopirak, Guzman, Hill, and someone like David Murphy or Chad Spann. Tampa might not do it, but it's probably most equitable. Marte is worth Lugo + Gathright alone, and Dopirak + Guzman is a decent return for an expensive impending FA coming off a poor year.

  10. Figgins is a switch hitter that can play 17 different positions, runs the 40 in 2.7, will be 23 for the rest of his life, and has a lifetime OBP of 950. Seriously though, he plays many different positions, puts up better than average OBP numbers from the left and right side of the plate, and is DIRT CHEAP. Figgins >> Pierre Alright, Figgins and Pierre are nearly identical offensive players.
  11. This will probably pain Roast, but it's true: Figgins = Pierre We don't need two of those in our lineup.
  12. This is exactly what I'm talking about. MSU has been tested. They've had to chase around Morrison all game, they've been guarded by Adams, Shakur and those athletic guards at Zona. Davis has been challenged with Batista from Gonzaga, Smith and Dudley from BC. Illinois hasn't faced that competition yet. Ager and Davis are All-Americans at this juncture in the season, and some people feel like Davis is right there for National POY. Brown has struggled in the abscence of Head and Williams. Will he improve? Will the Illini struggle with better competition in the form of more talented individuals? I don't know. I'm not saying that Brown will continue to struggle or that the Illini will finish middle of the pack in the B10, I'm raising the questions for discussion. Why can't anyone tackle the argument without going in a different direction?
  13. I'm not saying that Bedard will become one, but the guy had a 2 ERA and a 1 WHIP before he got hurt last year, so I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility of him becoming a 1 starter.
  14. He can't, and I'm one of his biggest fans. Well, okay, maybe he can be a marginal 2. He's got no shot at being a 1. I don't know his stuff, but he certainly was pitching like a 1 before he got hurt last year.
  15. A grammar, factual, and predictive error. The holy trinity of crappy writing. Grammatical. My resume to the Trib is in the mail.
  16. Cut for Cap Space D. Garrard (Jac - QB) D. Stallworth (NO - WR) D. Jackson (Sea - WR) W. Dunn (Atl - RB) J. Jones (Dal - RB) J. Shockey (NYG - TE) F. Taylor (Jac - RB) A. Randle El (Pit - WR) B. Leftwich (Jac - QB) D. McNabb (Phi - QB) T. Owens (Phi - WR) G. Jones (Jac - RB) M. Barber (Dal - RB)

  19. Is there anyone on this year's ballot you'd vote in? Dunno, I'll have to look at the numbers for the candidates as the polls come up. Definitely won't be voting 10 in though.
  20. That was a glorious day, knocking Duke out of the tournament and that dunk being in it. I wish I could find it from the other camera angle, because it really shows how much Ager let Redick have it. Oh well, happy to be of service. :D
  21. No. IMO, the Hall should be a very exclusive place.
  22. This is an incomplete example. There's a reason that Juan Pierre and Corey Patterson were equals offensively in '04. Pierre's vast lack of power was counteracted by Corey's lesser gap in OBP. It's impossible to say "I'll take .320 OBP with 20 HR over .350 with 10 HR" because those times on base are not created equal.
  23. No way. .279/.327/.455 .279/.323/.482 Which one is Andre Dawson's career line, and which one is Jacque Jones's? EDIT: His career OPS+ is on par with the likes of Reggie Sanders and Jay Buhner.
