  1. Dunn HASN'T done anything (no pun intended) to show he is a "difference maker". He hasn't improve the Reds since he's been there (granted not many players could improve that team). Granted Dunn hits a few out, and walk a few times, but in no way would I consider Dunn a "difference maker" until he proves it. What else exactly would he have to do to be a difference maker?
  2. The same reason Ryne Sandberg can't get a job.
  3. You do realize that she is just a pawn for the cubs. http://www.cubs.com is a promotional website and everything is pro-cubs, everything is bright and good in cubsland. If you are looking for news, cubs.com should be the last place you visit. Take everything you read there with a grain of salt. Don't blame her, she is just doing her job. If she put more opinion and more negative spin on things (even if it is reality), she'd lose her job. I completely realize she's an organizational shill, which makes it even more embarrassing that she helps decide who receives the most prestigious individual honor in the sport.
  4. You don't have to be a great big man to play defense. Has Oden had to try to score on competition the caliber of Butch, Stiesma, Pruitt, Gray, Trannon(if he gets eligibility), Sims, White, Allen, or Petway? Especially when he could see double teams consisting of those types of players?
  5. I think it's quite a stretch to think Oden's going to be (even arguably) the best player in the country next year. OSU wins because they are shooting ridiculously well from the outside(Foster, Butler and Sullinger are over 51% from 3 in over 230 attempts!). Foster and Sullinger(165 of those attempts) are gone next year, so they'll need those freshman to shoot well. Otherwise Oden's going to be collapsed on and they won't be very effective. They have a great shot of taking the Big 10 next year with several teams having heavy losses, plus their great influx of talent. Why is it a stretch at all? Its not a stretch to say that the best HS player in the country could be the best college player when he will just sky over everyone, while still being incredibly skilled on the offensive end to dominate inferior Big Ten post players (all of the good ones are leaving as it is). I wouldn't be shocked to see Oden average 20/10 next year. How many players over 6-7 has Oden faced this year? If any, how many of them weren't waifs? I'm not saying Oden's going to be bad, but I think you'll probably see a replica of Dials's production his freshman year, which is fantastic. That's not POY stuff though, not even close.
  6. In about 6 weeks they'll start playing Cubs games almost every day. Yes, but by "this" I meant show games leading up to the season. I know, just pulling your leg. I don't live near Chicago so I have no idea.
  7. I understand that. And I'm saying that you're dead wrong. Carroll can hit, he can get on base. His defense is decent at several IF positions. Neifi is a good defender, and a human wasteland with the bat.

  9. We went over this in the Dunn thread too. Neifi is one of the worst hitters of this generation to get as many AB's as he has. His batting average is not very important, and it pales in comparison to his nightmarishly bad OBP, especially when you consider how much time he spent at Coors field.
  10. Carrie votes on who makes the Hall of Fame. It's humiliating really.
  11. I'm spellbound by this curling stuff. Never knew the rules before today.
  12. Two lefts make a U turn, two U turns make a circle, two circles make a figure eight, two figure eights make a butterfly.

  14. :x Ouch. Good. I'm sick of her wasting our time with that desperate quest for a gold. The Peyton Manning of women's figure skating, to be sure. That's an awful thing to say. Michelle Kwan has been one of the most gracious sports figure I can remember. She has carried herself with grace and dignity her entire career. "Wasting our time for that desperate quest for a gold?" What's that supposed to mean? Yeah, that stupid Michelle Kwan, trying to win a gold medal for her country in the event and arena she trained her whole life for.
  15. Interesting read. The 2006 Minor League Baseball Analysts sounds interesting, but with FirstInning.com up and running, a good bit of its content can be found for free on the web. It also seemed like the writer contradicted himself talking about BA's lesser "value", then bringing up the reason it costs more is because he likes buying through the author.
  16. Wasn't Ryu the guy the Cubs signed out of high school. I thought they projected him as a top of the rotation starter now he seems lucky to be in a bullpen in the majors sometimes last season. Ryu was an international signing.
  17. Thanks for stopping by Dale! Who's your favorite Major League team? What's the most bizarre situation you've had to deal with as President of the HOF?
  18. No better time to get a ton of cash than now when the fire is hot. I just don't see him leaving a top 15 team for all the problems Missou is having and is going to have. There's not really any problems at Mizzou aside from W/L(not to say that it's not important, but it's not like Mizzou is facing a 23049 year posteason ban). WVU is also only bringing back one player next year that averages more than 5 minutes a game. He's probably not the number one guy I'd pick, but I'd be excited if Beilein came here. The team would be fun to watch. EDIT: 2 players averaging more than 5 minutes a game. They combine for 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
  19. He's always had 4 pitches, sinking action on his fastball(which is at a pretty solid velocity IIRC). He was at an age appropriate level and put up those solid numbers last year. I think it's a matter of both him being a solid prospect, and the system losing some talent.
  20. Why'd you think that? He has spent the last two years in the pitcher friendly parks of the Florida State League. Dopirak will see the same kind of improvement in the SL. Some people forget that Moore is an extreme talent and at one point in his career had a huge upside. I have seen Moore numerous times and he is a solid prospect and a huge sleeper in this system. Remember Moore was so highly thought of at one point that he was taken #8 overall in 2002. That is in front of both Hermida and Francouer. The SL is not much more of a hitters' league than the FSL. Also, Pringles is pretty hard on hitters, in particular. I'm not sure either Moore or Dopirak will get that much of a boost by moving there. That's not to say that they won't do better in 2006, it's just that I don't think the move itself is going to do it for them. Both of those guys can make huge strides if they can increase their contact rate. Both have pretty high potential and are still young enough to reach it. I would be a bit more optimistic for the two of them in 2006 if Von Joshua were still there at AA. What happenned to Von Joshua? AAA? I think?
  21. Martin gets Karma for stepping on Gardner's face, misses the three to send it into OT.
  22. Was Pudge on those special "take more walks" roids?
  23. Carrie Muskat's most hopelessly "misinformed" emailer ever. I don't know about "most". A couple weeks ago there was the emailer who trashed Todd Walker and was openly hoping for Neifi or Hairston to start at 2nd. Edward K. was just the one we chose to adopt as the whipping boy. Wasn't there more than one Edward K. email? At least he was the most prolific.
