  1. Anyone know why the barrels of Soriano's bats are all taped up?
  2. The pitch f/x operator sounds like an interesting job, but grounds crew would be tops on my list.
  3. I'm still considering taking about a 1-week trip out to Arizona for ST. If I make it out, I'll definitely come back with pics.
  4. Odd Fact: Commo guys have too much time on their hands
  5. How exactly is this going to work? The draft is usually done via teleconference so is this just going to be 99% commentary by "experts" (BBTN probably) and only brief glimpses inside of a war room or what?
  6. I think Rivera said he didn't want to just coach the defense and then Jerry made his move towards Phillips. Hey, maybe Coach P will be the head guy on D! If anyone is promoted from within to DC, it will be Bowles. I wouldn't know like you would, I was just rooting for Coach P. Who was the D guy in 2006? Zimmer had been the DC since 2000.
  7. I really can't see Rivera coming to Dallas as DC now that Phillips has been hired. Phillips will continue running the 3-4, and Rivera is a 4-3 coach.
  8. The last time I remember hearing his name was when he was with the Pirates. He was with their AAA club I believe and had been impaled by a shattered bat.
  9. I hope to get a drill schedule by the end of this week so I might be interested in a ticket if I don't have to be in Austin around the same time.
  10. Right now, Jones' sole focus is on Romo's development which I think might hurt the team overall. Turner seems to be the way he's leaning because of this, and he's a solid offensive mind but a horrible HC. Turner also told Jones he'd want to bring in Rivera as DC if he gets the HC job. I'd personally like to see Phillips get the job if he can bring in a good staff, though that concerns me because he's already lost Manusky and there's no guarantee that Nunnely would come with him. He does have a more positive HC history and experience with the 3-4 and with Garrett already on board I don't think we need an offensive HC necessarily.
  11. The Cubs could easily afford to sign Dusty Baker to a 10 year $50 million contract, that doesn't make it a smart move. If you're dying of thirst in the desert, and someone offers you an ice cold water bottle for $100, is it a dumb move to "overpay"? With the Cubs, we'd buy an ice cold water bottle. Just because the bottle is cold doesn't mean there's anything in it.
  12. you just provided the most compelling reason I've heard for his promotion. I'm still waiting for him to call Theriot "The Riot" Actually, I believe he has. I recall him saying "The Riot" twice within a minute the last time Theriot was up. Great, now if he'd only call Pierre Slappy the circle would be complete. I'm guessing that he can't say "slap nasty pimp" on the air though, so it'd be more of an oval than anything else. It would be pretty funny though if he started calling Juan "4-3".
  13. Wow, I was actually kind of hoping that the Cubs would get Pennington when Pawelek looked too expensive. I guess it's a good thing we chose otherwise.
  14. Unfortunately it isn't pronounced the way it looks, though it would be funny.
  15. Darn, I was really hoping we could get a draft pick out of them for Shanle after the whole scout swap deal.
  16. Mesa is up 1-0 in the top of the 4th on a Samson rbi groundout in the 3rd to score Rosario. So far Ceda has gone 3IP 1H 5/4 K/BB 1-2 GO-FO.
  17. For 1908 of anyone else that knows, is there any chance that Kosuke Fukudome gets posted by Chunichi this offseason? I saw that he's most likely going to be a FA after the 2007, so there might be a chance of it. I wouldn't mind having his .357/.437/.655/1.092 line in the OF this year at all.

The Chargers just didn't show up to play tonight I don't think. That was nothing more than a stutter slant, the CB sat on it and then just let Gage release to the inside.

There was some nice blocking up front for Pope that time.

Nice return by Hester. When he caught that, nobody was even close to him.
  21. So the Reds, Indians, and Red Sox all sponsor teams, do the Cubs sponsor one as well? If so, are there any decent players on the roster for the upcoming draft?
  22. One and the same: Jesse Hoorelbeke.
  23. I guess it's another error by MiLB, they still have him listed on West Tenn's roster.
  24. His BABIP is unsustainable right now though. Over the last 3 months it's been June- .333, July- .351, August- .444 (through the 15th). I hope that he succeeds as much as you do, but there is no way he can maintain this right now. If he only slows down slightly when his BABIP comes back to earth, I'll be quite happy but I don't think it's likely his production will stay up.
  25. I believe Petrick can come off of the DL today, can't he? If he does, is there any chance he'll get the starting nod?
