  1. Olave went back to school, so that one is not happening. I honestly don't think the Bears are picking 20th unless they pull Dak in free agency. The 20th pick will either be traded for Watson (long shot) or traded to move up for a QB in the draft. But only a WR is the pick if Robinson is gone.
  2. Yes, some of Mitch's success was also do to the fact that he had a good deal of talent. But he was dumb as a box of rocks and incapable of making basic plays against decent teams. I think referring to Nagy as gutless is a reach when the fact is he didn't have any faith in Mitch and that lack of faith was entirely deserved. I trust that Nagy can make this a productive offense with a good QB. It's still way up in the air whether they can actually accomplish that part of it, but I doubt they still struggle to score so badly if they actually do get a real QB. Gutless coming from the playoff game, literally no expectations, playing with house money and still wasn't aggressive. If they ever was a game in which to let it all fly, consequences be damned, that was certainly the game. Yeah, that pissed me off too. He could've let Mitch be aggressive and if he was bad, go to Foles. I don't think anyone would have blamed him for it in that situation. But look at it like this, if the Bears do get a marked improvement at QB, and there is no significant uptick in offense....then in 2022, we get a new coach in here that can run an offense and hopefully, for the first time in franchise history, the Bears already come equipped with a franchise QB. Just get the QB worry about the rest later.
  3. totally possible on the other hand, maybe he's learned his lesson If we're being as objective as possible about Pace, while he is agressive, it's not like he gives up high level assets for super dumb things. Like sure he gave up a lot for Mack, but that was a really big, cool, piece. And he's given up smaller pieces to move up for guys like Trubisky, Floyd, Jackson, and Montgomery, which has arguably added up over time, but it's not like classic late 90s Bears giving up a first for Mirer. If he goes and trades like 2 first rounders for Carson Wentz, I guess we'll say the other moves were warning signs, but I actually don't read him as a guy just wildly misreading the market. I agree with this 100%. Mack was his bold move because he thought he had his QB. I guess Robinson could be considered a big move, because he was the highest paid FA WR that year. But every move Pace has made has been with the frame of mind that Trubisky either was his QB or could be his long-term QB. Even down to the Brady and Bridgewater interest last offseason. The Bears probably could have gone a little more for either QB, but wanted to give Trubisky 1 more shot. I think this year, Pace is more desperate than he has ever been. As mediocre as this team is, they still have gone 28-20 with 2 playoff berths with bottom 1/3 QB play. So, I have no doubt Pace will give up as much as it takes to add an elite QB or elite QB prospect.
  4. So this is nuts 25-1 in his last 26 games played. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  5. Duce goes to the new Lions staff instead of the lame duck Bears staff.
  6. Whoever is the road team in the Superbowl needs to wear all white uniforms. A hideous color combination against each other. They played earlier this year and it was ugly (not the game, the aesthetics). Can't have that on that national stage.
  7. NFC Championships: Aaron Rodgers: 1 Drew Brees: 1 Tom Brady: 1 Rex Grossman: 1
  8. I think he was really good at first. He was relatively young when he started in the booth. And he wasn't a meathead like most of the defensive guys who do color commentary. But I agree he's pretty terrible to me now.
  9. I get this angle. I just think stopping them on a drive starting at the 8 is easier than stopping them on a drive starting at the 20-25. And consequently scoring after a punt from inside the opponents 10 is easier than scoring after a punt from the opponents 30-35. And now that I think about it, I think LaFleur made that call because it was before the 2-minute warning. But if that's the case, the squib kickoff is another bad decision because if the returner didn't give himself up, the Packers would have lost that in their favor if that was part of the decision making.
  10. Analytics say going for 2 was the correct call there. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  11. I couldn't believe it. I thought it was an awful decision at first. But gaming it out, I don't think it's quite as crazy as it initially appeared. I think people are underrating 1) the 2 point conversion only being a 50/50 chance, 2) Tom Brady having the ball and timeouts only needing a FG to win the game and 3) OT only being a 50/50 chance if it gets there. It's obviously easier to convert a 4th and goal from the 8 than to 1) stop them and 2) drive with likely no timeouts to score a last second TD. Quite a bit easier. But is it easier enough to also have to essentially flip a coin 3 times and have them all come up heads? That's where I'm not sure and I would like to see a better description of the math. I looked up on numberfire, and GB's win probability went up over 3 percent when they successfully kicked the field goal. I mean, they almost literally have 0 chance to win in regulation because they were down 8. So, them being down less than a TD naturally increases their chances because there was 0 chance of a tie at that point. #2 is the only point I halfway buy (Brady w/ ball w/ timeouts). But when you're losing, you have to get there first. You absolutely make them try to run out the clock in the shadow of their goalline. It's not like they were at the 20. Not to mention, they could have gotten yards without a TD and made it even more tough for Tampa.
  12. No onside kick attempt either (which was the right call). But I can't believe they kicked the FG. Worst case scenario, Tampa has to get a 1st down in 3 plays from their own 8. They probably don't throw on 1st down either with Brady from his own endzone. You have to force a 3 & out to stay alive either way. The choices were 1 play chance for a TD, stop 3 plays, get the ball back around your own 40 or no chance for TD, kickoff, stop 3 plays, get the ball back around your own 20. Rodgers should have run on 3rd down anyway to at least make it closer and a bigger no-brainer decision, though. Also, WTF Brady. Dude wins 6 Superbowls, after 20 years at a place that will never host a Superbowl. Leaves for 1 year and becomes the QB of the first team to ever host a Superbowl. Making history when there is barely any history left.
  13. Stafford isn't being traded in the division. Sounds like Indianapolis and San Francisco battle. I'm personally rooting for the Niners as I think they are more likely to trade up (and have the ammo) to get a QB in this draft. Colts seem destined for a vet QB over drafted one, plus they pick after the Bears. Stafford to SF also likely means Jimmy G is cut instead of the Bears needing to trade for him, if they want to go in that (bad) direction. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  14. This is good. Desai was my top choice as noted a few posts ago. Really like Staley too. Had been a RB coach for the Eagles then promoted to Assistant HC by Pederson. I'm assuming he's going to be the RB coach, but it's very possibly he has a bigger/better title. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as passing game coordinator too, replacing Ragone and London at the same time.
  15. The Texans interview Jim Caldwell today for their head coaching position. Oh and also JOSH McCOWN! The McCown interview is interesting because he's never been a HC candidate before. He's also never been a coordinator at any level. He has been a QB coach at the high school level. Of course, the reason McCown has never been an NFL coordinator or position coach is because HE'S AN ACTIVE NFL PLAYER ON THE TEXANS ROSTER! He was their 3rd string QB this year, and they interviewed him for their head coaching job.
  16. Nick Sirianni is the hire for the Eagles. I believe that leaves only Houston that needs a HC. Sounds like Bienemy in the lead there but they have to wait til KC is eliminated. But if you're scoring at home. Sirianni was Frank Reich's OC. Frank Reich was Doug Pederson's OC. Doug Pederson was fired and replaced by his former OC's OC. Definitely seems like this move was 100% about Wentz over Pederson and wanting someone new in charge of fixing Wentz.
  17. So are guys abandoning the sinking ship w/ a lame duck coach/GM or does this show the Bears actually have/had good coaches that other teams covet?
  18. Another DC candidate down. Aaron Glenn was rumored to be going to Detroit like 3-4 days ago, but was still talking to the Bears and Jags. Now officially going to be Detroit's OC. Was a DB coach for NO and a former long-time CB in the NFL. The more I learned about him as a coach, the more I've liked about him. If I had to rank my order of preference for Bears next DC: 1. Sean Desai- current Bears DB coach 2. Jonathan Gannon- current Colts DB coach 3. George Edwards- Cowboys senior defensive assistant 4. James Bettcher- former NYG/Ariz DC 12,973,752. Mike Singletary- 80s linebacker w/ big eyes and noted team mooner.
  19. Kamara and Ramcyk are not going anywhere. I can see Lattimore and and MT being available, along with Emmanuel Sanders, Jared Cook, Kwon Alexander, Marcus Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Janoris Jenkins, and one of Trey Hendrickson and Cam Jordan. They are going to have no choice but to push money out to the future. Ramczyk and Lattimore will probably get extended with HUGE signing bonuses and very low base salaries so they can save 8-10Mil on each. Jordan and Armstead will get extensions also w/ big signing bonuses and low 2021 salaries. Jenkins, Alexander, Josh Hill, Patrick Robinson, Rankins, and Easton are easy no-brainer cuts. Marcus Williams walks in free agency. Even if Brees retires as expected, they'll have to hold onto him until June 1 to get the most savings this year (will also have a cap hit in 2022 though). The thing w/ Lattimore is that they probably have to lose all their DBs other than CGJ, so they'll have to completely revamp that position if he's not back. He's probably their most tradeable player though and could return multiple picks (including a 2nd), which is important since they'd be down to like 35 players when they cut all the players they need to.
  20. They're not so cash strapped they couldn't make Stafford or really any 1 FA/trade work. I tend to agree about giving up assets for a Lock/Darnold type though. Assets for a known quantity, sure let's talk. For potential, I'll just spin the draft/FA wheel and hope to get lightning in a bottle that way. I don't think you're getting a known quantity unless you get one of the big names at a big salary. After that, if you want someone under 28, you're looking at Mariota, Winston or a Lock/Darnold type. Granted, I'd rather just take another shot with Trubisky (along with a draft pick), but I think it's pretty clear Nagy doesn't want that. If the Bears can't get better at QB, they at least have to get different at QB.
  21. Bears interviewed Mike Singletary for DC position today. If this hire happens, I'm done for the 2021-22 season.
  22. You have to try lots of options. Put a guy in a new system and who knows, he might improve. But if the worst case is you actually get worse QB play, then you'll also get a much better draft pick in 2022 and an entirely new regime to make that selection. Drew Lock's only real playing time has produced numbers worse than Trubiskys worse year. So I guess if the idea is to tank next year, Lock is definitely the guy. But hoping for a come around..yeeeesh Lock was just an example. But I do disagree with your assessment of his potential (his season was pretty bad though). The point was, if the Bears don't come up with 1 sure option, they then need to come up with 2 lottery tickets....1 via FA or trade and 1 via draft.
  23. He was great with the Cardinals before that though (3 years of top 5 dvoa defense). Giants talent on D was pretty bad. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  24. What's so hard to understand? if you are frustrated with the qb play this year, how does that make any sense on improving it next year? You get MUCH worse at the starter. resign Trubisky and roll the dice on Jones. There is no reason to get worse while trying to get better Trubisky isn't coming back. Lock will probably be better in 2021 than Trubisky was in 2020. If i'm wrong on the 2nd statement (I'm not on the first), then you have already rolled the dice on Jones, and he plays.
