  1. The Rams don't have a 1st round pick this year (as usual) so their 1sts next year and in 2023 aren't as valuable as a 1st this year would be. Plus, they basically paid the Lions to take on Goff in this deal. I think if SF offered #12 and another pick next year, it may have been just as valuable to the Lions since they wouldn't have had to take on a bad contract (Jimmy G would just get cut in this case). For those keeping track, the Rams officially won't have 1st round picks from 2017 thru at least 2023. 7 straight drafts.
  2. They basically had to pay them to take Goff as well.
  3. Holy crap! I mean the 1st rounds picks are the key to the trade but not sure why rebuilding Detroit would take on Goff's contract. And I knew Goff was going somewhere. Can't expect to just come back like normal when your coach and GM flat out say they need a better QB. But damn.
  4. Arm strength is limited. I'm also not a big fan of small QBs, who aren't dynamic athletes. There is Drew Brees, who is a HOF 6' QB, but he was drafted 20 years ago. The other QBs near that size are Wilson, Kyler, and Lamar. I mean, he could be Drew Brees. Lord knows he has the pedigree for it. It's not like he's some kind of longshot. He was a top 5 pick and a 3-year starter for the top program in the country. Just never been overly impressed with him since after that national championship game.
  5. He doesn't want 25Mil/year. It sounds like he wants the prestige of a 100M contract. Which could be a 5-year deal. But why tag and trade? If you can fit the 18Mil tag, I don't mind paying him that for 1 year while you get the QB situation together. The Bears are either going to get a legit QB, in which case they can let ARob go after a year and draft his replacement w/a QB in place. OR they are going to get one in the draft, in which case they can either afford him long-term or again let him walk and let the young QB develop w/ a draft WR. The thing about the franchise tag is it's all or nothing. If you tag him, you most likely aren't going to be able to trade him before the draft. That would require Robinson signing the tag and probably the trading team to negotiate a long-term deal he's happy with before the trade can happen. If not done before the draft, the Bears won't be getting a 2021 pick for him. If that's the case, might as well hold out for the comp in 2022. Also, it's not like you can sign another WR with Robinson on the tag. So, even if the trade does happen before the draft, all the top FAs will be gone after 2-3 days of free agency.
  6. I changed my mind. But I've never been a big Tua fan and LOVE Lance who I think has MVP upside.
  7. There is a 30 for 30, "Run Ricky Run" that details that story in depth. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  8. In theory, but you get Watson and you have the best QB in the NFC under 32. And we are literally seeing right now what happens when you replace negative value QB play with top 5 QB play. Tampa was 7-9 with Winston and now is in the Superbowl. Granted, they didn't have to trade their early draft picks to get Brady. Where the Bears pick, drafting their own QB probably isn't possible without a move up. If they don't go into the draft with a legit franchise QB, it probably means they are going to trade this and next year's 1st round pick to move up for a QB. You're talking 1 more 1st rounder and some other pieces for a proven top 5 guy. The Cutler trade didn't set the Bears a step behind. Not properly surrounding him with talent on offense w/ the resources they did have did. And frankly, Cutler probably wasn't quite good enough. Definitely not a top 5 QB like Watson is.
  9. I get your thinking. And yeah, on the surface a mid 1st and future 4th for a top QB prospect is a pretty good deal. I just hate the thought of giving up a 1st to facilitate another team getting the best player in the deal. Also, not sure how I feel about Tua as a player. Considering it's 2 AFC teams, I really have zero concern about facilitating another team getting the best player. It's not like the Bears are giving up the best player, they're playing arbitrage here baby! Good point. And I did say that the Bears should be in on all these talks to pick up the scraps. So I'm contradicting myself. F it! Bring on Tua.
  10. He's probably got a better chance of being good than anybody else that would be available with that pick, and outside the top available QBs the Bears probably won't get, he's probably got the best chance of having a solid career going forward. It would be interesting at least. If Nagy can't make it work right away, they can move on with an organizational overhaul with all their important 2022 draft picks available, including what would probably be a high 1st/2nd/3rd. They'd also have the lottery ticket of Tua competing with whoever the new QB is drafted in 2022. Yeah. I think this would be a good way of hopefully setting yourself up for the long term, but if it fails you didn't pay a huge price. I'm *mostly* of the mind that a QB's rookie year doesn't tell you anything except maybe at the extremes. Even then, Baker Mayfield has settled into being pretty solid after having maybe the best rookie season since Luck. Josh Allen is now a star after being hilariously bad his rookie year. I think years two and three are when you start to know what a guy is, and so Tua's story is still mostly unwritten. So especially since Tua had a fairly normal rookie QB year, you buy him based on pedigree. And besides his injury (which I think is fully cleared at this point?) he's got better pedigree than anyone in this draft except Lawrence. If you have the opportunity to get that for #20 and a day 3 pick my gut says take it and run. And as a bonus you don't have to twiddle your thumbs through his rookie season. I get your thinking. And yeah, on the surface a mid 1st and future 4th for a top QB prospect is a pretty good deal. I just hate the thought of giving up a 1st to facilitate another team getting the best player in the deal. Also, not sure how I feel about Tua as a player.
  11. Also, that amounts to 2 first round picks, 1 second round pick, and 2 4th round picks for Watson and a 3rd round pick. Kelemete is nothing, a 31 year old guard who has injury issues and got benched this year. The Bears should easily beat that package, despite not having a top 3 pick. I'm counting 3 1st rounders still. 2 from Miami and the Bears. My bad. I thought the Bears pick was going to Miami when I typed that. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  12. LOL. Why the hell would the Bears send a 1st and 4th and potentially more for Tua? 14. That's a steep price with such a cost you've got to be certain you're getting back a franchise QB not merely a good QB. It's all academic anyway, a Jimmy G, Marcus Mariottta, Tyrod Talyor type is who the Bears will end up with. Is there doubt that Watson is a franchise QB? But yeah, I don't even think that necessarily gets Watson. I think you're looking at those 3 picks, plus 2-3 day 2 picks (2021 2nd, 2022 3rd).
  15. first impression of his resume is, not great. Career college position coach. Spent some time as a co-defensive coordinator, but only a coordinator outright for four games when his cohort was promoted to interim head coach. One season in the NFL on a terrible team with a bad defense. Doesn't do much to counteract the theory that no top coaching candidates want to work with this group. Nope. I'm choosing to believe this Aaron Wilson guy who I've never heard of that this OLB coach I've never heard of is indeed highly regarded by people I've never heard of.
  16. I heard he's best friends with Deshaun Watson. No not really, but one can hope. Also interesting is his kid Chris Rumph II is an OLB prospect in this draft from Duke. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk

  18. Bateman reminds me of Allen Robinson a lot. Especially from before the ACL tear for Arob. Good route runner for a 6-2 WR, not as good as Robinson in jump balls but better after the catch since Robinson's injury. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  19. Texans hiring David Culley as their head coach. Just found out he was the Ravens pass game coordinator. Houston has had a lot of bad PR with their racist owner and their black QB wanting out that they focused on black head coaches. Culley is black (which i also just found out). He's also going to be 66 in like Week 2 of the 2021 season. Never been a coordinator. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  20. That seems like a good comp, but he could also turn out to be Jake Locker or Ryan Tannehill. I just don’t think he’s worthy of a 1st round pick. The warts with Locker were obvious to anyone who watched any Pac-12 football. But again, raw's point is to get good coaching and trust the the athlete/tools is true. The NFL is more willing to run college concepts these days then they were when Locker and Vince Young came to the NFL. While this is true, I think it's important to point out that NSDU uses more NFL concepts than most college teams. They do a lot under center and run true playaction concepts in the pass game. In comparison, Zach Wilson at BYU almost does 0 under center.
  21. Yeah, he does. But he's playing with slower, weaker teammates than the Power 5 guys as well. Size, arm, athleticism reminds me of another FCS guy who ran around the competition from back in the day, Steve McNair. That seems like a good comp, but he could also turn out to be Jake Locker or Ryan Tannehill. I just don’t think he’s worthy of a 1st round pick. I mean, Tannehill's pretty good now. But I'm not saying he's going to turn out like McNair, just that he's that style of player.
  22. I mean, I begrudgingly hold the fact he played for NDSU against him but whatevs It’s that he seems to get by a lot on his athleticism against slow and weak competition. Yeah, he does. But he's playing with slower, weaker teammates than the Power 5 guys as well. Size, arm, athleticism reminds me of another FCS guy who ran around the competition from back in the day, Steve McNair.
  23. I agree that Pitts is a beast. Najee Harris runs much more violently, ala Derrick Henry, than Forte ever did. You didn't mention him, but I do not get the love for Trey Lance. He just seems like a guy. Najee definitely more physical than Forte. I think the comp is more of a size/speed thing and the fact that Najee is a good receiver out of the backfield for that size. But he's NOT Forte as a receiver. As for Trey Lance, I love him and completely disagree with you, LOL. I do think Fields over him is a no-brainer, but Lance has all the tools. Elite runner right now, not Lamar style, but pre-injury Cam Newton level. Big arm. I love his footwork most of the time, has inconsistencies like any other college QB. He has plays where he throws with tight window accuracy, anticipation, goes thru progressions.....admittedly few and far between, but they are there. He also seems to have the intangibles and small nuances. Great at carrying out playaction fakes and zone reads/RPOs. NDSU is basically the BAMA of FCS football, but it says a lot to me that he was trusted with that job as a 19-year old RS freshman last year. He went undefeated, with like 28 TDs and 0 INTs, and another 12 TDs rushing to go with 1000 yards. And if guys like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert have taught us anything, it's to trust the tools and get a guy that can develop them.
