  1. Probably because Houston wants to do all they can to keep him and has rebuffed all proposalsYea. And Pace clearly isn't going to wait out the market. Yeah that's my biggest issue with this. Superbowl hasn't even been played yet. A month + til the league year opens. Wait to see if Watson, Carr, Dak, someone decent you don't have to trade draft picks for becomes available. If you can't get one of those guys, then if nobody else trades for Wentz, you have a 3-day window where the Eagles are pretty desperate or else they owe Wentz his 10Mil bonus. If someone else trades for Wentz in the meantime, the worst thing that happens is you have all your draft picks, whatever cap space you've created, and aren't counting on the league's worst QB in 2020. Not the end of the world.
  2. So now sounding like a 2022 1st to Philly. Have seen rumors of Bears getting a 3rd this year. And Cohen NOT being involved (no Ertz either). While I generally LOVE the idea of the short-on-cap Bears getting an extra top 100 pick this year and a future pick (when the Bears will have cap space) is worth less than a current one, it has the potential to really backfire if Wentz, is bad again and be a top 10 pick. Probably going down Monday or Tuesday. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  3. Beat me to it. First thought on "another offensive player" is Anthony Miller. But I did read someone say Ertz could be involved too. This could be quite the wild trade involving all players that each team has soured on. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk Why would we want Ertz? I don't want him, but who knows what the hell Pace is thinking? Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk

  5. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2021/2/6/22269990/carson-wentz-trade-rumors-bears-nick-foles-nfl-news-eagles-quarterback-philadelphia-picks-packaage Reading thru all the tea leaves with the tweets in this thread and the above link (featuring the original leaker, Brandon Robinson).....it sounds like: Wentz + a mid round pick (guessing a 3rd this year- 70th overall) for 2021 1st, 2022 3rd and Foles.
  6. Wentz's ranks in DVOA the last 4 years: 6th, 13th, 20th, 34th Trubisky's: 29th (Rookie year), 19th, 26th, 24th Wentz is probably better than Trubisky, but I think the point is it's way too close for this to be the guy you hitch your wagon to. The only real arguments for Wentz being actually good and not just good by Bears' standards essentially boil down to making it 2017 again through either science or magic. Wentz is clearly better, but not significantly better. But let's stop thinking that Mitch is an actual factor here. The Bears aren't bringing him back. When he was a factor, Nagy didn't even let him throw the ball any significant distance down the field....boosting his stats to make this even as close as it is. Ultimately, Wentz would probably be similar to Cutler. League average to slightly above, probably good enough to compete with the franchise records, but needs everything to go right with the OL, run game, weapons and his own health to do anything of substance in January.
  7. I'm assuming any trade with the Eagles would involve Foles. If no Wentz, the Eagles have no #2 QB. Foles is a legend in Philly and the ideal backup to mentor Hurts. The Bears are up to the cap right now. Depending on where you look, the cap is supposed to be about 185M next year, and the Bears are about 500K over it. 5.3M of Foles deal would go to the Eagles. 25.4M of Wentz's deal would come to the Bears, so net of 20Mil basically. Also, this move would probably hurt the chances of ARob staying. Have to clear 20Mil for Wentz, then another 18Mil if ARob is tagged. Be easier to fit the 1st year of a long-term deal into the cap, but I don't really see Robinson going, "oh snap, we got Wentz! I'm staying!"
  8. Another thing I will say is if there is a deal close, I really hope the Bears drag their feet on this a little. There's no reason to go crazy to get Wentz when potentially Watson, Carr, draft picks, and Dak are still on table. Even if they asked about all these QBs and the price is astronomical, while the Wentz deal is a steal, asking prices do come down as reality starts to hit. Even the Eagles will become more desperate when it gets close to March 19 and they have to write that 10Mil check for Wentz and keep him thru the year.
  9. Carson Wentz has $59M guaranteed left on his deal and was the worst full time QB in the NFL last year. I don't understand why it isn't incumbent on them to pay us for the favor of taking him. I’m with you. I don’t see why the Bears should give up much in value for the privilege of paying Wentz $20MM a year. Put Mitch’s and Wentz’s career numbers side by side. Wentz is better but only marginally so. Certainly not to the extent where the Bears should be giving up picks to pay him $20MM a year when Mitch could be had for Marcus Mariota’s contract. Not that those are the only two options. I just don’t see why one guy is gold in the Bears’ eyes and the other guy is trash. Eh. The difference is Wentz has an MVP caliber season in 2017 before he got hurt. He lowkey followed that up with a season where his completion percentage was 9.5% better, his yards per game, and passer rating all increased (again before injury). Mitch can't touch Wentz's 2017-18. While it remains to be seen if Wentz can touch it again, Trubisky has all but proven he never will.
  10. Carson Wentz has $59M guaranteed left on his deal and was the worst full time QB in the NFL last year. I don't understand why it isn't incumbent on them to pay us for the favor of taking him. It's not quite that bad for a team that trades for him. It's basically a 2 year, 47 million dollar deal with two team options after that. As for compensation, it's mostly a competition thing. If multiple teams think they can fix him and have his value go way higher, then that's going to raise his trade value significantly. And the Eagles don't have that much incentive to trade him this year without getting something. Eagles take on all his signing bonus, which is technically already paid. So, acquiring team would get Wentz for: 2021- 15.4 Mil base salary + 10Mil roster bonus if the trade is executed before March 19 (it will be or they won't trade him) 2022- 22Mil base salary
  11. I'd maybe consider like a pick swap. 20 to 37 is like a late 2nd round value per the trade chart, and the new age analytical charts would say it's even less probably. Maybe even get a mid rounder. Wentz +37 + 69 for Foles + 20 I'd do that in a heartbeat. I think if the Bears can come out of this with an unquestioned improved starter (Wentz is debatable I guess) and can hold onto pick 20, they'd probably trade down in the 1st to get more picks anyway. I don't like "more than most would expect" at all though.
  12. I think everything around him starting falling apart. Only 1 other even started the 12 games he started, and that was his center, Jason Kelce. They were a little healthier on the OL in 2019, but notoriously lost every WR they counted on at some point in the season. And his 2019 wasn't bad. It was pretty average, but he wound up with near the same yards per game, same INTs, and much better completion % than his MVP caliber 2017 season. Seems like a textbook case of a guy trying to do too much with everything around him falling apart. He got sacked 2nd most in the league 50x this year, despite missing 4 1/2 games after being benched. Their line was atrocious.
  13. Gonna be? We've already seen a Superbowl QB, who won a playoff game last month get traded for a QB with 0 playoff wins and that team give up 2 first round picks to get rid of that guy. The only way to "win" in this market is to get the best prize or get the best value. i understand what you were trying to do here and why you were trying to do it, but if goff is a "superbowl qb" then the term carries no weight. we don't need to call every guy who has played in a superbowl a superbowl QB. or we can, but then the term is meaningless/useless. either way is ok. that sentence just characterizes them in a way that misleads about the fact that stafford is a clear upgrade over west coast mitch. Oh i fully agree. Just saying this has already been a crazy market.

  15. Carson Wentz trade picking up some steam. Not necessarily with the Bears, but supposedly the Eagles have gotten some "strong offers". The Bears are obviously one of the teams to watch with Wentz because of the coaching staff's familiarity with him (DeFilippo) and his familiarity with the offense. Colts obviously another. I have liked Wentz as a potential option, because he has played at an MVP level in the recent past, he's still young, and because I thought his price would be a lot cheaper than the other non-Watson options. I was thinking he could be had for Foles + a 3rd + a conditional 2022 pick (anywhere between 2nd and 4th round). But if they've gotten multiple offers, I speculate that a 1st round pick could be in play.....and I don't like him for that much with the risk there that he could continue to be bad.
  16. In Brad Biggs' mailbag he says that it seems "more likely than not" Robinson gets franchised.
  17. If IU would have won that game, I would have complained for you guys. But it was pretty bad all the way around, but I felt IU got the most bad calls in their favor.
  18. Hey, I already said in this or the other other teams thread that I played football with the Chargers head coach (and didn't realize it). I also apparently live a few houses from the house Barry Alvarez (former Wisconsin HC and AD) grew up in.
  19. I don't have the answer to either question but they'd have the most important building block in place. So that alone pushes me into the "dooooooo iiiiiit" camp. You're just never gonna win a ring without one and you're probably not getting one at 20 this year. Although Pace will be 100% willing to trade whatever it takes to get his guy as well being in his last year. Honestly I imagine both teams could put a comparable player pkg together. Tom could probably weigh in on that. That shoulder of Johnson is damn scary to me, as an aside. He flashed star upside no doubt but how often will he actually be available? Personally I don't think we're getting Watson. With Stafford off the board and Watson not a realistic option what does that mean for Bears? Pace is going to do something, I've a feeling it's destined to be something horsefeathering awful. Like I've said, they gotta explore every option. If they don't get Watson, they have to get in on whoever's job Watson affects. If he goes to Miami, try to get Tua. If he goes to NYJ, try to get Darnold. If he goes to SF, Jimmy G will be cut. If he goes to Carolina, try to get Bridgewater. I'd even call about that backup Wolford who started for the Rams when Goff broke his thumb. None of those are good moves (except maybe Tua). But then you follow up with moving up in the draft. I think the Bears can definitely get into the top 10, and the Cowboys at 10 are potentially the perfect target. If they re-sign Dak, they really have no holes on offense except maybe OL depth. They need pretty much everything on defense, but this draft isn't high on elite defensive top 10 talent. They can get a player similar at 20 as they can get at 10, if not the same exact player with QBs, OTs and WRs going early. Plus, they get comp picks after the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rounds so they have 4 extra picks to work with. I think the Bears could trade to 10 with giving up just 20 and future picks, something like 10 + 2021 4th for 20 + 2022 1st + 2022 3rd. This would be ideal for the Bears given that they don't have cap space this year and will in 2022, so they could focus on loading up on prospects this year and focus more on free agents next year. Still depends on how successful the QB is in any scenario, but this is my guess for Plan B.
  20. Just coming to post this. People have speculated they want a pro bowl level defensive player. This sounds like 2021 1st, 2021 2nd, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd and Roquan Smith. I probably wouldn't throw in both Smith and Jaylon Johnson. But Johnson + Nichols maybe. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk

Yeah, saw that right after I posted. SMH. Should not have lost that game. That's a horrendous call.
  22. I guess depending on how you feel about McCay v Nagy... Or Donald v Mack for that matter. They've also managed to at least have a lot of mid round picks so as to not be starting at 5 or 6 man draft classes every year. True. Also, they seem to be really good at getting out of bad deals. Both Goff and Gurley were bad deals and they immediately jumped ship instead of just dealing with it. Wonder if the Bears could take advantage of this with Quinn or maybe even Jackson. Just saw the shot. Good lord that's unlucky with the tip and potential turnover before it. Also, I see Lonzo is on the block. I'd love him on this team (immensely helps the D and moved Coby to 6th man and away from the point. They dont really need Lauri in NO but a 3 team deal could be interesting. I know he had a good game tonight, but Lauri doesn't seem like he's long for Chicago. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  24. Its funny because I was starting to get down on the thought of a Watson trade. 3 1sts, and probably 2-3 day 2 picks is a lot to give up, especially as you have to replace aging players on defense and bad ones on offense. But hell, the Rams haven't had a 1st since Goff and in one of the last 4 years didn't have a 2nd either. But if the Rams can make it work so can the Bears with an actual elite QB. Probably would have to find more Mooney's, Jackson's & Nichols' in the mid rounds, have some UDFA luck (RRH, Mustipher) and cheap FA luck (Edwards, Gipson) again. Even if the Bears don't win a ring, can we at least see some elite QB play in blue and orange? Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
