And that doesn't sound like a QB solution for the Bears. It probably isn't, but they'll have to acquire multiple to figure this out. Might as well try to find the next Tannehill while also trying to draft a Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson or other non-consensus top 10 guy. Yep. While ideally the Bears would come out of this offseason with Watson or Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, those are all long shots. I'd be very happy if they came out of this with say, Drew Lock and Mac Jones. -

Agreed. Watson also has a no-trade clause, so he can basically pick where he wants to go. If the other QB needy teams (Miami, SF, NYJ, maybe Den, Det, Carolina) want him they'll offer a more attractive package than the Bears can possibly put together. Houston most likely also wants a young QB in return so most of those team also have that with a couple of them additionally having very high draft picks. If the Bears are smart (they aren't) they would definitely act as a 3rd party to pick up any potential scraps. Not just in a Watson trade either. If Denver goes after Stafford as rumored, they should be in on Drew Lock. If SF goes after someone, they should be in on Jimmy G (with restructured contract or after he's cut). Same for Darnold, Carr, Bridgewater, whoever. I don't even want most of these guys, but the Bears probably have to grab one of these or trade into the top 8 in this draft. -

The theory is that he will be the first player to get 3 first round picks in a trade. The Texans don't really have a ton of cap space (though losing Watson would help some of that), so I don't see them taking a player back that's NOT on a rookie deal. For a team like the Dolphins, with a young QB and a high 1st, I think Watson could be had for: Tua, #3 overall, #18 overall, 2021 3rd round pick, 2022 2nd round pick. For the Bears, who don't have a young QB to trade and pick 20th, I think it would take more like: 2021 1st round pick, 2021 3rd round pick, 2022 1st round pick, 2022 3rd round pick, 2023 1st round pick. Probably get a pick back from the Texans in the 4th round in 2022. -
How are you doing now raw? Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk I'd guess he's in the top 3. Somehow dropped to 17th place. Six points from the money and 20 away from the top 3. Basically my hopes hinge on Aaron Jones having a huge NFCC game with Adams/Rodgers doing very little. Bills going to the Superbowl and Josh Allen having a big game throwing to anyone but Diggs would help a bunch as well.

I'd rather have Rodgers or Desai than any of these outside guys who have never been coordinators. I'd hate to lose Jay Rodgers, but he's not under contract and it sounds like he could join Staley in LA. But Sam Acho said on twitter that Desai is Staley 2.0. Brilliant defensive mind, who the Bears blocked from leaving with Fangio (they did not block Staley). -
Yeah, this sucks. Interesting move for the Chargers who go with a DC to pair with their young QB. I assume he'll take one of the QB coach or pass game coordinator with him to be OC. Daboll looking like the top guy for the Eagles. Houston is a mess with the first coaching fire (or was it Atlanta) and may be the last to hire a coach. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk

Welp. Same horsefeathers the Bears ran against them last week but Wims dropped. I'm so pissed off right now! -

I don’t like the idea of the Bears picking up Wentz. Physically, Wentz and Trubisky are completely different QBs, but in terms of production, they’ve put up very similar numbers, and at two years older, he’s much more of a finished product than Trubisky is. Between the two at the same price, I’d rather have Trubisky. That's an understandable conclusion, but Wentz has at least done things in his career that Mitch hasn't come close to. The last 2 years the numbers are similar, with Wentz having more turnovers. But Wentz's previous 2 years was top 5 QB performance. Obviously, things like salary and the fact that Wentz would require trade capital matters, but at this point I'm pretty sure Nagy doesn't want Trubisky back and them together just doesn't work. The Bears have to be better at QB, but if that's not possible, they at least have to be "different" at QB. Wentz would be different, with a chance to be better if his receivers and OL can stay healthy. -

I posted in the "other teams" thread about the QBs in the AFC vs. the NFC, and the more I think about it, the more I am OK with the Bears taking a(nother) big swing at the QB position. The NFC is ripe for the taking long-term for anyone who gets a young franchise QB. Just not a lot of good QBs in the conference under age 32. The NFC teams that pulls Zach Wilson or Justin Fields (if neither goes to the Jets) will have a leg up on the conference long-term. Dak is probably top 5-7 in the league and still young, so if he's made available I think the Bears go hard after him, but other than that, Kyler Murray is the best young QB in the NFC. The Bears are in competition with SF, WFT, and maybe DET, NO, Atlanta, and Carolina for QBs this offseason. Whichever of these teams can come out of this draft with one of the top 4 can set themselves up for long-term success in the NFC. -

0-7-1 last 8 games against the spread. Of course, they won all those that they played their starters. But their last win by more than 6 points was against the terrible Jets in Week 8. Their last 1/2 of the season schedule featured the Broncos, Raiders, Falcons, Panthers and Chargers. -

Perhaps he means the younger AFC QBs in the final 8 (Mahomes, Mayfield, Jackson, Allen) vs the old guys and the crappy guy in the NFC (Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Goff)? It’s all about the quarterback in the NFL anyway. Yeah, I think you nailed why it feels that way to me. I was just thinking how it is striking to see the Bills and Browns knocking on the door when a handful of years ago they were laughingstock franchises. Heck, it wasn’t so long ago that KC was just mediocre. Mahomes is still “new” to me. KC as a perennial contender still feels new. This is probably the last year for that though. I wasn’t commenting on AFC vs NFC. It wouldn’t bother me to never see Ben sniff another title game. A non-playoff Pats team is like the clouds parting giving way to sunshine, as far as I’m concerned. So this is much more fun to me than it’s been in a very long time. I get what you're saying, but last year the AFC final 4 QBs were Mahomes, Watson, Tannehill, Jackson. The Ravens weren't really a new contender last year, but they were a completely different team from the Flacco years. Tennessee and Houston were both new contenders last year. KC has won 10+ games every year since 2013, except once they won 9. They've been really good for a while, though I'll give you they haven't been true contenders til Mahomes. Steelers didn't make the playoffs last year and the Patriots were eliminated first game. I guess I'm just saying, the exciting new blood in the AFC (whether team or QB driven) happened last year as well. But anyway, the future of AFC QBs does look amazing. In addition to Mahomes, Watson, Mayfield, Allen, and Jackson, just added Burrow and Herbert, going to add Lawrence and maybe Fields, Tua could still be a thing, Drew Lock as well. Meanwhile, the NFC has Washington, Chicago, SF with no QB. Brady, Brees, Cousins, Goff, Wilson, Ryan, Stafford, and Rodgers have all been around for a while (Brees will retire, but they they join WFT/Bears level). NYG's young QB doesn't look like he will work out. Eagles QB isn't super young anymore and looks like he may not work out. NFC's promising QB pool is basically Kyler Murray at this point and whoever gets Zach Wilson/Trey Lance. -

KC will likely be in the AFC title game 3rd year in a row. NFC had more "new" teams in the playoffs this year. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk -

And Staley might poach Jay Rodgers I guess I don't pay enough attention but it just now dawned on me that is the Jay Rodgers that played QB at IU when I was in school. The main thing I remember about Jay is running into him drunk one night outside a bar wearing my Bears hat and him yelling DA BEARS. Then he later became a Bears coach. Interesting only to me, I suppose. lol And I just realized that I was also there at the same time. I knew he played QB at IU but I never bothered to look when. He apparently threw 10 INTs as a freshman the year I was actually on the team with him. Lol. Funny thing is I completely remember the starter that year (1996), Chris Dittoe. And I remember Rodgers' backup the next year, Earl Haniford. I also remember Antwaan Randle El came in 1998 and then 1997 starter lost his job and transferred, but had no idea this is who it was until right now. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk -

yea, unless they were to get Watson with something akin to what they traded for Cutler with it would hamstring the team. Watson would end up where he is: a super talented QB on a team void of another talent. Draft a qb, or get lucky with Prescott Right. The Bears really don’t have any other assets to trade. So they’d probably be looking at minimum their next three first round draft picks for Watson. The thing is, with the 20th pick, they're probably looking at 2 first round picks to get a QB that has 0 experience. So 3 for Watson isn't a deal breaker at all for me. The issue I have is all the extra picks. When you start giving up 2nds and 3rds is where these trades can really go bad. Can't go 2-3 years without adding a top 90 pick in any of those drafts. I don't think I'd feel good about that hire as a Jets fan. Great defensive coach, but we've seen this before. Does he have any in game coaching skills? He's a motivator but how long does that last? Especially in NYC. His OC is going to be very important for his success. And not horsefeathering up the draft. He just feels like one of those guys that's way better as a DC, kind of like a Fangio. So many DC's turn out to be awful HC's. I think OC's are generally brighter when it comes to in-game decision making and I'd wager they've had more success overall. That rah-rah horsefeathers works on defense but doesn't translate to high IQ game management. I know that historically everybody has thought defensive coaches make better HC than offensive guys at the NFL level. We know Belichik is a defense guy, Tomlin as well. Harbaugh was a special teams guy and dabbled in some DB coaching as well prior to his gig in Baltimore. Pete Carroll was a defense guy too. Obviously some recent winners like Reid, Pederson, Kubiak and Coughlin were from the other side of the ball, and my preference is for an offensively minded HC, but there's probably not a lot there in terms of OC actually being better. Yeah, the whole offensive vs. defensive head coach is overrated. And there's plenty of OCs that make terrible head coaches. Doug Marrone, Anthony Lynn, Adam Gase, and Bill O'Brien were all failed offensive coaches that were fired just this year. Matt Nagy could have easily been fired. There's a lot more Anthony Lynns than there are Kyle Shanahans. Granted, there are also a lot more Matt Patricias than Mike Tomlins. But there is definitely no evidence to hire an OC over a DC.

They can definitely make it work. Watson's cap hit increase in 2022 actually sets up perfectly with the Bears being able to get out of some of the big contracts. Even if they don't cut Mack until AFTER 2022, they can save 24M by cutting Quinn and Jackson with a June 1 designation. Then there's Foles 7Mil off the books. Goldman could be a June 1 cut. If the cap is 200M in 2022, the Bears currently have 75M in cap room. Granted, only 24 players under contract, but that also includes guys like Massie who will certainly be cut this offseason. Yea, so you're cutting a bunch of starters and only have FA to really replace them. They can of course fit his cap number, but building a winner around it is entirely different. Eh. Those were just examples. Pace's demonstrated ability to hit in the mid rounds and with cheap free agents shows me that they can build a contender with a top 5 QB. Plus, a top 5 QB alone almost always automatically makes you a contender.....with unironically, Watson being an example of the contrary. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk -

Well Watsons 2021 salary cap hit isn't very big. So they can make that work with minor manuevers. They don't really have extra picks from which they can deal from, but if they wanted to they could deal from the picks they do have, including having all their future firsts. So if it's really something Hou wanted to entertain and CHI was really motivated, sure. But I'll be honest, I really don't know they can build a team around the cap constraints. I think they'd have to move on from Mack by 2022 once Watsons cap hit gets bigger. Will be too much for 2 players. But maybe they could be all in for 2021 then retool. But it's tough to retool once you've traded maybe 3 or 4 future 1sts. I think Robert Saleh was the "star" coaching hire in this cycle. Him coming with Mike LeFleur makes this a slam dunk hire for the Jets. Word is they are sticking with Sam Darnold for 2021, and may be looking to trade down from 2. Sounds like Titans OC, Arthur Smith to Atlanta, who is also going to hire Terry Fontenot from the Saints as their GM. Saints and Niners also will get the two 3rd round comp picks for grooming minority hires.

The LIons hired Brad Holmes from the Rams as their new GM. The good news is that Ed Dodds was right there in the running, and he's a candidate a lot of Bears fans wanted. So, if he doesn't get a job this cycle he may be there for the Bears next year if they ever move on from Pace. The bad news (at least for me personally) is that since he's from the Rams, this could mean Brandon Staley is a strong candidate for the HC job....and he's probably my favorite candidate for the Bears next coach. -
Lions hired a GM. It's Rams scouting director Brad Holmes. His hire doubles the number of black GMs in the NFL, and also makes the Rams the first team to get 2 3rd round comp picks under the new diversity initiatives.

Harden had no issues until the last 4-6 weeks when he made it known he wanted out. He got out. I don't see why he would be an issue going forward....until he wants out of Brooklyn.
-
From 2014-2027, the Nets will have made one 1st round pick....that pick was Jarrett Allen who was included in this trade. Cleveland seems to quietly benefit a ton from this trade.

So, a lot in that press conference was said about getting better play out of the QB position. Essentially, Trubisky was thrown under the bus multiple times. The irony is Mitch brought the team together after the 6-game losing streak that was apparently very impressive to ownership, and his play at QB is one of the primary reasons the Bears even got to 8-8 and the playoffs before being neutered by the game plan Week 17 and the wildcard game.
