  1. Nah, Tim fell asleep instead. :P Yeah, well, when I tried what I was thinking of it didn't work anyway. The operation timed out when I went to do it. So I've written a program that operates at the database level directly. Love brushing up on that SQL!
  2. When did you send it? I can't remember whether I received it or not and I won't have access to my records until around the 7th. But I've got you set up for premium access.
  3. Yee-haw! Adam Dunn, come on down.
  4. I think you are forgetting someone... I hated the inclusion of Puckett, who didn't belong, because it opened up so many arguments for guys like this. Belle simply didn't last long enough in my eyes to be included. 10 full seasons isn't long enough? I like him for the hall, I wonder how that 147 career OPS+ stacks up. So, I guess you don't think Koufax belongs either. He only had ten full seasons as well. Every rule has its exceptions. I figured someone would challenge me on that. :D
  5. Well, anyone that accumulated 10 years of service time, anyway.
  6. Check out what ATL paid last year for Hudson and you should get a good idea... So...Hill, Patterson and Wuertz in place of Meyer, Charles Thomas and Cruz?
  7. Kaplan said that he heard that Hendry was pushing hard to acquire Zito, and P. Sullivan said that he had heard that from his sources also. I say just sit on him and don't flip him. That would be an awesome rotation. I agree with you as long as Pie (stated earlier) isn't in the deal and Zito agrees to a contract extension before the trade. Zito would be someone it would be very, very safe to offer arbitration to, so the Cubs would get a year of Zito, a first round pick (most likely) and a first round supplemental pick in return for Pie and whatever else they give up to get him.
  8. Angels > A's The Cubs need a 5 hitter & a #3. fine, they're one of the better teams in the west. plus, they have this thing called the wild card now. in any event, the a's are better than the cubs, and i think it'll take more than prospects to get him. the only reason i want him is to spin him for tejada. The AL Wild Card's reserved for either Boston or New York. well, i don't think oakland's ready to concede that fact in december, especially since it took ny/bos til game 160 or so to clinch the WC last year. I don't think it is clear cut that Anaheim is a better team than Oakland at this point. Zito/Harden/Haren/Blanton/whomever is a better rotation than Anaheim will throw out there. While Oakland doesn't have anyone of Vlad's caliber on offense, Anaheim isn't exactly a threat to set scoring records. I have trouble thinking of one other player on that team that I'm confident will be an above average offensive player at his position in 2006. Meanwhile, Oakland has a bunch of guys that will probably be above average to make up for the fact that they don't have that elite cornerstone. Given their pitching advantage, I'd say it is at least a tossup in that division and it could very well come down to health.
  9. :?: if there were a GG for each position, LF, CF, RF rather than just 3 CFers, he would have gotten one. does that answer your question? No way, he doesn't hit enough to get a gold glove. Didn't Abreu get one of the OF gold gloves this year as a RF?
  10. It isn't for me. But I'm pretty darned stingy on who I let into the hall. I would vote for Frank Thomas. The biggest difference between Frank and Albert is that at least Frank has had a decline period to his career where he continued to influence the game.
  11. What? No love for Robin Yount??????? His 1982 season was a thing of beauty for a SS. Oops. I always think of Yount as an OF for some reason. Is he usually considered a SS or an OF by baseball historians?

  13. I'd say yes for Trammell. Cal Ripken is generally given credit for changing the SS position, but in my eyes it was Trammell. During the 80's, I thought there were three MIF's who were great offensive and defensive players - Sandberg, Whitaker and Trammell. Sweet Lou comes up just short in my book, but Sandberg and Trammell are deserving, in my opinion.
  14. Know anyone involved in the Indy leagues with an open mind about this kind of thing? ;)
  15. I'd say read the Hidden Game first, but it is the only one in the group I've read. I got two baseball books - "Mathematician at the Ballpark" and "The Numbers Game". I'm looking forward to Curve Ball if I get any Borders/B&N gift cards.
  16. I wonder if he'll make it. I'm predicting a 90% Yes vote on him. I voted no.
  17. I'd like to go back to what a Cards' fan pointed out earlier in the discussion. If Prior qualified with enough innings at this point, he would rank 6th among active pitchers in ERA. Sixth! How on earth is that not dominant enough for you? I think I saw many posts go by that said they wouldnt trade Prior for anyone.....certainly no other pitcher. My point was that he needs to be the pitching stud of the next decade to live up to expectations. I wouldnt pretend to be the stats guy that many around here are......but if he's sixth....that means there are at least 5 better. Right? I'm sure age and many other things need to be factored in.......but he has a lot to prove. From a lot of the sentiment around here you would think that he has proved it already. Is it that unreasonable to be somewhat skeptical as to whether or not he can live up to expectations? Let's put it this way...Pedro is definitely one of the six with a better ERA at this point. Would you trade Prior for him? Given the age, contract and other questions surrounding them, I'd certainly want to keep Prior. There's one other pitcher in baseball I'd trade straight up right now for Prior and that's Johan Santana. That's it.
  18. Approximately 35.5 I decided to round up since I posited a few more innings than 200. :D
  19. How many more runs is a 3.50 over a 1.90 when a pitcher throws 200 innings in a season? 1.6 * 200 / 9 = ~36 runs
  20. From an individual production standpoint, I'd much rather see Prior with a 220 IP, 1.90 ERA, 15 W season than 200 IP, 3.50 ERA, 22 W season. I can't see how anyone could argue that the second season is better as an individual performance. I just don't get it. I could care less if Mark Prior wins 20 games. I care very much that the Cubs win a lot. But for Prior himself, I just want to measure him on how he pitches.

  22. With all apologies to Ron Santo, Blyleven is the player that is currently not in the hall of fame that most deserves to be there.
  23. I'd go for Blyleven and Trammell. And that's it.
  24. Nice offer, but where does Wright play? Do you then send Aramis to Baltimore for Tejada to make room for Wright at 3rd? Who replaces Prior in the rotation? I'd put Wright in "Wright" field, of course! I'd go out and sign Millwood for the rotation.
  25. Can I use Clemens until the break and Santana down the stretch? Johan really seems to have issues getting things going early in the year.
