    I would absolutely LOVE to have Tucker back next year. I think he's the guy who he was if you look across the whole year. His wRC+ since 2021: 146, 130, 139, 176 (partial year), 136. That puts him in the top 15-20 hitters in MLB. He's a positive on the basepaths, but a bit negative in the field. I don't think that combination at age 29+ makes him worth $300M. A lot of that probably depends on the shape of the next CBA. But it does make him a player I'd really, really like to have for the next 4-5 years. I think I'd ideally like to pull off a Twins/Correa thing. Sign him, get the first few years of the deal and trade him before it's popular but while you can still get someone to take on the full contract.

    This may come as a surprise given my previous statements on him, but I'd be for signing Robert this offseason. Part of that is seeing what Vaughn did with proper coaching after his trade. Part of that is Robert quietly putting up a .298/.352/.456 126wRC+ line in the second half, while cutting his K's to 15.2%. He was also a positive in the field and on the bases this year. I'd only be in favor of it if he comes at relatively low risk. If he's getting $100M payday from someone, hell no.

    I'm just assuming that adding two first year (teenage) players to the top line would result in a lot of mistakes being made and extra goals allowed. But you're right that it would slot everyone else into much more appropriate roles.

    It wouldn't suck to add McKenna and Frondell to to the top line next season. That probably wouldn't help them win games next year, but it sure would help going forward.

    How about OPS - is that basic enough for you? His OPS for exactly the last month is .766 vs a league average of around .715. He's. Been. Fine.

    When we go by team ERA, the Cubs are 14th in baseball. 0.03 behind Milwaukee at 12th. 3.83 vs 3.80.

    wRC+ is all about what happened. And he's been well above average for the past month+.

    Yes. It does. It means his been fine even when the balls in play haven't hit turf.

    Over his last 147 PA, Happ has a wRC+ of 112. He's been fine.

    Awesome stuff, gents. In general, I'd think you'd ideally want a variety of different looks so that hitters don't get locked into the same profile of pitching across a series. I could see some theoretical arguments in the other direction, but I'd need to see data to back them up: one style of pitching being much more susceptible to injury one style of pitching maximizing probability of success over the other much more organizational strength at maximizing one style over the other The first two would be legitimate reasons to go with one versus the other, but I have no idea if data backs up either point. The third one seems like more of a reason to boost the organization rather than favoring one profile over the other.

    meh - I get it. Which of the first top picks Davidson made are you complaining about? Nazar or Bedard? I could see Korchinski, but he was pretty much chalk at that spot.
