  1. Just so long as they don't trade for Archer and then sign Yu, it's all good. Funny thing is, even if they made both those moves and lost nothing from their roster, they'd still project more than ten games behind the Cubs by Steamer.
  2. It's amazing to think that Trump had an even bigger margin!
  3. On an unrelated note...The Brewers project to the 7th worst record in baseball at 73 wins.
  4. Is this as delusional as it sounds? Because it seems pretty horsefeathering delusional to me, especially the bolded. By steamer projections on Fangraphs, the Cubs are the #1 offense in the NL at 5.01 runs per game. The Cards are 5th at 4.77. In pitching, the Cubs are 3rd in the NL at 4.32 runs per game and the Cards are fifth at 4.34. By projected run differential, the Cubs are 2nd at 112 and the Cards are 4th at 70. By projected record, the Cubs have a four game cushion at this point, 92-88. However, we stand to gain around 2-3 wins if we sign Darvish.
  5. You have the info to post it....
  6. After the success that Romo had in Tampa for the second half, I wonder if we could get him here on a cheap, one year deal.
  7. Ha! Sign Darvish at 5/110 Trade Happ, Almora, De la Cruz and Hatch for Yelich Sign for 1/2M Sign Watson for 2/12 That adds 37M in AAV, which means no in season moves without moving commensurate salary. But that's also a damn fine team even without mid-year upgrades.
  8. Have I ever mentioned how meh I am on Teheran?
  9. Just use the link at the top. :good:
  10. That makes me feel better.
  11. Ownership is going to have Pace hire a defense-first guy again, aren't they?
  12. Zach Short.
  13. Yes, I was quite pleased with his signing. The concerns about him are valid (the greatest of which for me is health), but the GB% is elite, the spin rate is elite, the curveball was once well above average and has been under utilized in Coors and his away splits over the last 2 years are very good. I think his stuff plays up in Chicago especially with their elite infield defense behind him. His potential (not his pitching profile) reminds me of Hendricks' when he first came up. He looks like a very good #5 with the upside to be a middle of the rotation starter. The price is right, and they got him for his age 28-30 seasons. Given the obvious concerns of health and BB%, he was the one FA starter this year that checked all the boxes for me. Current performance for the price, length of contract, potential to outperform the contract and age. If he stays healthy, I think not only will he have more value as it relates to his contract than Cobb, but he has a decent chance of being the better pitcher outright. I see a lot of the similarities between Chatwood and Arrieta while he was in Baltimore, actually.
  14. Just to be a dick about this since I took so much horsefeathers.. Do we have enough of a sample size yet to determine that the Bears don't have an elite rushing game? 11th in YPG 8th in YPC Also lousy in first downs achieved, fumbles lost, touchdowns, etc. Basically by no metric whatsoever have they shown to be elite. I want my $40.
  15. Wait...Darvish and two *more* relievers? Or Darvish and the two we already signed? If you're counting the guys we signed already, don't forget Chatwood and Smyly. If you're talking two more relievers, where will we put them all?
  16. I'm sure it won't happen. But it would be my favorite thing to happen in the NFL in a long time.
  17. To get to my most recent mock, we'd also have to trade for Yelich.
  18. Assuming current production going forward? Because he won't be a starter in 2019? He'd be better off letting the FO know he'll waive his no trade, though.
  19. So you eat much of the sunk costs of the contracts and get the best players you can.
  20. Bryant Rizzo Schwarbs Contreras Baez Russell It's going to be a heck of a fun offense.
  21. How many 30 HR players will the Cubs have in 2018? List 'em in the thread.
  22. Longoria getting 15M AAV probably wasn't going to sink the Cardinals at any point in the future. If anything the net positive is that taking on his money wouldn't lower the cost of going after someone like Archer. The Cardinals can trade for all the Longorias and Colomes and sign all the Addison Reeds and Dexter Fowlers they want. It's the Archer/Donaldson/Machado tier of players they truly need to be a persistent threat to the division. Isn’t the theory that a team of 25 guys at 2 WAR beats a team with 5 ten WAR guys and 20 replacement level players? I have no idea what I’m talking about, but I feel like I read that recently. It's a hell of a lot easier to improve the team that has stars & scrubs, though.
  23. Let's make it happen: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/christian-yelich-unhappy-with-marlins-direction-set-to-meet-with-front-office.html
  24. I'd much, much rather have Harper for a wide variety of reasons.
  25. Since that money came off the books after 2018 anyway...why? Because it brings them under the luxury tax next season Yeah, saw that afterwards.
