  1. Schwarber hitting 50 will help.
  2. I was under the impression that Yu Darvish had moved to pitching exclusively from the stretch. This video from batting practice on the Tribune site shows him doing a full windup. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/95974823-132.html Am I remembering incorrectly?
  3. Just a little awesome defense to start off the weekend. https://www.mlb.com/cubs/video/happs-sensational-diving-grab/c-1875749883 Edit: Obviously I don't know how to embed this video...
  4. He also said he would delete his twitter account if Cobb didn't sign with the Brewers, so I guess he's being honest about 1 thing, at least...
  5. God, I hope it's Philadelphia. It'll break my heart to have to root against him if he signs with the Brewers or Cardinals. Really, I was hoping for the Twins or the Rangers, but that looks out of the cards now.
  6. He'll be easily worth it every other year.
  7. I'll go on record and say that if our run differential is only +131, things did not go as expected.
  8. I found this tidbit interesting from The Athletic's article about the Cubs courting Darvish: I want to see that photo.
  9. Am I the only one bothered by the fact that Darvish's agent doesn't seem to know who our GM is? In fairness, it could just be bad reporting...
  10. It's obviously something Anthony's already thought about somewhat: and Fortunately for the Cubs, he seems like the least likely person to be bitter, as long as he is respected and loved by the team and fans. It's a good idea for the front office to be tactful when speaking up about cost controlled players. For reference, here's the article I took those quotes from: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-cubs-anthony-rizzo-contract-sullivan-20180205-story.html
  11. When will these articles stop? His swing is broken. He tries to fix it. Video comes out of new swing. Modest improvement and people start claiming he's "fixed". Starts to decline again. Starts to slump. Hits tons of grounders. Somehow hits a HR and then returns to slumping again. Has a bad year with momentary flashes of success at the plate. Tries to clear mind and make improvements to swing during offseason. Wash, rinse and repeat... Either when he's magically fixed, or when he's no longer on the team. And then it'll be someone else.
  12. How is Darvish not the worlds best fielding pitcher with the way he finishes his delivery?
  13. I'm pretty sure it is, but of course I can't find the details right now. It’s not. It’s the total potential guaranteed amount divided by potential guaranteed years. If incentives/bonuses are hit in a given year it will be adjusted accordingly for that year. The opt outs and how he actual money is paid out don’t matter. Okay, I see where I was getting mixed up. Team and vesting options are not counted as guaranteed money, while player options are. Opt-outs are a form of player option, so it falls into the latter category. That seems a bit non-intuitive to me, but I guess I get it.
  14. I'm pretty sure it is, but of course I can't find the details right now.
  15. That would mean for luxury tax calculations for the next two years, it would put the Cubs at $30M each year. Unless I'm mistaken, LT is calculated as the AAV of each segment until an opt-out. So I don't think the Cubs want to give him $30M a year for the first two, as that would put them over the cap. But it might be AAV of $25M guaranteed for 2 or 3 years, before it drops significantly.
  16. Good. I really wonder why they couldn't settle somewhere in the middle. Theo is 1-0 now in arbitration cases since taking over the Cubs lol. Because Grimm was trying to get a guaranteed contract. As an arbitration contract, he can still be cut during ST and only receive a prorated amount.
  17. Didn't Nightengale report the Cubs had offered $110M to Jake. I sure hope someone barely engages me for $110M...
  18. 6/130 would be a $21.7M AAV. That's actually better for the Cubs than 5/125. I doubt that's the difference between the two camps.
  19. None of that makes his behavior remotely okay. I don't know what kind of person flippantly suggests suicide to a stranger, but I do know I want nothing to do with that dude.
  20. Bauer told someone to commit suicide on Twitter. That's not the kind of guy I want to have to root for, and definitely not the kind of person I want my son paying attention to.
  21. That's if you believe there is a source. His posts stink of some dude reading the tea leaves and calling them a source. He reiterates the rumors that are out there and adds color.I'd say it's 50/50 whether the color is from a real source, or his furry friend Harvey.
  22. Well, isn't this interesting? And it's not just the box on the bottom. The "49 Spikes" is also Arrieta related. :-k
  23. Man...I really hope it's not 4/90. Even if his stock is down some, that seems like an insult. Drive a tough bargin, but don't spit in the guy's face. Shorter contract - higher AAV. Longer contract - lower AAV. I'd try something like 4/110, 5/125, 6/140, or even 7/155. Basically, start with a high AAV, and then tack on $15M for each additional year.
  24. What's funny is that when I first saw the ring, I thought it was one of those replicas, and the guy was trying to hawk them. It wasn't until I felt the heft, and got to look at the gems did I realize it was the genuine article.
