  1. Sure, but there's no way that would get it done. I don't think Guzman has any value any more. Perhaps Pinto, but I'm guessing Baltimore would want Z and one of Pie or Hil plus Cedeno. Would you pull the trigger on that deal?
  2. If it takes a couple hundred games of leading off before you trust someone enough to let them lead off, how exactly do they earn your trust? Are you basically saying that a hitter MUST prove himself outside of your organization before he can be annointed a leadoff hitter?
  3. To me it looks like he glued a fake mustache over his lip so he could buy beer without getting carded...
  4. So my wife saw me laughing at this thread, and wanted to know what Pierre looked like. I did a google image search, and I found this: http://www.heritagekonpa.com/images/Juan%20Pierre%20of%20Florida%20Marlin.jpg
  5.  I'm wiping beer off my monitor...
  6. I suggested earlier today that we take Drew and Bradley off their hands to help make salarly room for Furcal. That's a high risk, super high reward type move.
  7. Does Drew have a no trade clause? What if rather than taking on Lowe's contract, the Cubs gamble on Mr. Glass? If Milton and Drew managed to stay healthy, the offense and defence on the OF would be spectacular. I know, I know...big if...
  8. Please, no! Soriano and his patehtic OBP should be nowhere near this team. I'm fairly certain Dusty would throw him at the top of the order, simply because he's fast. He'd fit in well with the Dusty/Hendry way of thinking, since he can't stand to take a base on balls...
  9. That doesn't make it any more legal.
  10. That (and two pints of very stout holiday beer) just made my night. My mom used to hjack the tv every Sunday night fo Murder She Wrote. Thanks for the flashback!
  11. I'd rather save Pie and Hill for a Dunn, Abreu, Burrell type player. That sort of player will have more impact on the Cubs than a starting pitcher, I would think. Not that I wouldn't be delighted to get Beckett for those guys, even if it meant taking on part of Lowell's contract. At all of Lowell's contract, I'd hesitate sending our two best prospects.
  12. So what's the point of a discussion group then? Why don't we all just read the press releases on cubs.com and call it a day?
  13. Ah...Goony...you remind me once again why you're my hero. To everyone preaching that we wait and see how the off season unfolds before crucifying Hendry and company, that's the exact same mantra that's been bandied the last few seasons. I bought in last year, so any criticism I levy is a result of waiting for the non-existant difference making moves last winter.
  14. I can't see the Cubs landing both Dunn and Giles. That's way too much OBP for Hendry to focus on.
  15. Er...why would the Reds want Pie? They already have too many outfielders. I'm sure they would demand a package starting with Hill and Williams, and then build from there.
  16. Pierre is the perfect leadoff hitter for a team lead by Baker. He doesn't strikeout and he doesn't take walks. He's blazing fast, but he still isn't a good baserunner (just like most of the rest of the team). He can catch the ball, he just can't throw it. I'm of the opinion that pinning your hopes on the continued success of a slap hitter when half his games will be played in Wrigley is a *HUGE* gamble. His range in Wrigley will be excellent after a park like Pro Player, and he might hit another HR or two. Unfortunately, his few doubles and triples will go down because the gaps in the OF just won't be there.
  17. Their pitching has been *SO* much better the last two year it isn't even funny...In 2003 they got a good first half out of Williams and bad pitching the rest of the way. In 2004 and 2005 they've had a healthier team, and it's shown just how much better they are than the Cubs.
  18. They got the to NLCS because the rest of the division was fairly weak. 88 wins doesn't put the Cubs even *close* to winning the division, and the wildcard shouldn't be a goal. If the Cardinals had been as good in 2003 as they have been the last two years, the Cubs would have been watching the playoffs from home that year too...
  19. I would rather put Murton in that role, with Walker as a backup option. The thought of having Murton, Walker and Giles available for the top two spots makes me so happy...
  20. They have a rightfielder I'd probably be willing to consider...
  21. I don't mean to sound glib, but that's exactly how people felt about JoBo. Dempster has more chance of repeating his performance, but JoBo is the perfect example of what looking at only the end result can do.
  22. I don't think anyone is arguing that Dempster didn't have a great year as closer. The question, however, is whether or not his performance is repeatable.
  23. Man, Yankee fans would eat Corey alive.
