  1. I like how you found a way to use "Machado + Harper" and "pinching pennies" in the same sentence.
  2. This is like what those sham mediums do. "I sense you've experienced a loss in the last year..."
  3. Does Heyward have a no-trade clause? A limited one. Do we know anything about it? How many teams, or which teams are rumored to be on it? I'm guessing not...
  4. Does Heyward have a no-trade clause?
  5. Let's also not forget that last year Tom Ricketts said he would "rather have dry powder a year from now." He was talking about staying under the LT threshold then, so we could spend like drunken sailors this off season. And that's exactly what they did last season. I don't know what the horsefeathers they are going to do, but I sure as horsefeathers know what they should do. Maybe all of this is a clever ploy to keep Boras from getting them into a bidding match against themselves. Let's hope. But at the moment, it sounds like a group of billionaires have decided they want a few more hundred dollar bills in their vault when it's time for them to swim through their riches a la Scrooge McDuck.
  6. This is a common misconception, and I think one of the reasons having conversations about privilege get heated so fast. There is absolutely no need to feel shame for having privilege. The important thing is to acknowledge it (which you did), and not be defensive about it (you were maybe just a little defensive). It's also important to understand that people with less privilege are going to be upset that society can really suck for them.
  7. Have some soma and dig the brave (not so) new world. Go status quo!
  8. THANK YOU! Someone gets it.
  9. Yep. We just gotta sucker someone into taking Bryant. Then it's smooth sailing to Harperville...
  10. That's not what he means, unfortunately:
  11. That's just rich white guy accounting 101...They didn't get where they are by paying their fair share, and it's really not cool of you to expect otherwise.
  12. The most important thing about this is that it takes McCutchen off the table for us. That was one of my dreaded scenarios...
  13. He’s looking for that casino from Vegas Vacation Wallace Shawn's 2nd greatest role 3rd at best.
  14. I read most every post and I don't remember a single person saying that we're a 95 win team without making any moves. I came closest, I think, and I said 91-93 with the addition of a couple relievers. But exaggerate as much as you like to make a point, I guess. I'm guessing he's referring to my post, which was a reference to our last few seasons, and not where we stand at this very moment: A mediocre 95 wins last year...A mediocre 96 wins averaged over the last 4 years. BLOW IT ALL UP!
  15. I cant believe I googled Barry Manilow Vegas to try and verify if something named CharlestheCat was lying about being in Vegas. But, I did.. and Manilow had a return tour in Vegas through October and is back again in 2019.. so a Manilow advertisement is very lucky. So CtheCat still good, and Harper to Cubs done deal is what this means. Same here. Lol. Seems this cat has 9 lives. Although, the shows in 2019 are not at the Paris. Although, that would be a good place to advertise them. Someone help. I care way too much about this, even for a snowy Sunday afternoon. I 100% know/believe that Charles is a joke account. So for shits and giggles I'll point out that a Google image search didn't find another match for the image he posted.
  16. A mediocre 95 wins last year...A mediocre 96 wins averaged over the last 4 years. BLOW IT ALL UP!
  17. I remember not being a fan of his methodology, but generally agreeing with the conclusion. Cubs averaged 4.67 runs per game with a SDp of 3.56 Cubs opponents averaged 3.96 runs per game with a SDp of 3.00 Playoff teams this year averaged 4.97 runs per game, with a SDp of 3.37.
  18. This hypothetical doesn't account for the fact that even when the offense was good, there was extreme variability from game to game. Average runs per game are misleading when the standard deviation is massive. I haven't bothered to run the numbers, but the variability has got to be far bigger than normal. The sheer volume of runs the team scored on the days the the offense was on, masks overall problems with the offense when looking backward.
  19. Wow...I just found this: https://www.gofundme.com/sheryl039s-transition-fund
  20. Probably not. I'm guessing this is well beyond the statutes of limitations. But I don't know squat about the law, either...
  21. Yeah, I wasn't expected that gut punch when I opened up the article this morning.
  22. This is pretty devastating: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-human-side-of-the-cubs-addison-russell-decision/
  23. For a front office that's made a big deal about character being as important as skill, they sure are willing to look past character when it's convenient...
  24. Hard pass on Bauer. I don't need another person I despise on the team.
