  1. Yeah, that whole description of relationships sounds EXACTLY like this autistic friend I have whom I cam across from online poker. He sees and treats all relationships and friendships as cost-benefit transactions. Conversely, my son is on the spectrum, and is the most affectionate, cuddly person you'll meet. In Elementary school we had to talk to him about appropriate affectionate displays, because he didn't get that his bus driver or classmates might not be cool with very big hugs. He's 14 now, and has learned to reign in that impulse. The idea that being on the Autism spectrum makes someone an emotionless automaton, or somehow explains Trevor Bauer's fuckery gets a big thumbs down from me. He could just be a huge douchebag. Or he could be on the spectrum, but I'm not going to make that diagnosis from a couple articles.
  2. hitting for power without being a 1B or corner OF? I guess, the IsoPs he tends to run are more borderline top 5 for a 3B. I admit a certain irrationality to my thoughts here too, but Machado feels like one of those guys who is capable of everything and has demonstrated it all in short bursts or in various years, but I don't think there's ever a version of him that is everything he could be(and is played up to be in a productivity sense). The best example of that is his defense taking a statistical nosedive when he filled out and actually started hitting for those power numbers. He's averaging ~5 WAR a season through his career, and unlike Harper he's doing it it without a lot of variability. What more do you want from the guy? The game is frikkin' hard.
  3. Okay, I'll add this on, a little less bold, but also a little more serious than my last one. Schwarber will have a wRC+ over 135, and a WAR above 4. His ISO will top .250 again. Both his strikeouts and walks are going to come down a couple % because he'll be a bit more aggressive at the plate. He'll end the season with a better WAR than Harper.
  4. Who is surprised? My point is you should probably avoid all professional sports because you are destined to be sorely disappointed. It is sad but true. So the two options are: 1. Avoid all sports. 2. Shut up and accept it. Discussing it is a bad thing somehow?
  5. Harper.
  6. I’m starting to talk myself in to Chatwood being a reasonably valuable thing out of the bullpen so let’s get nuts. Chatwood will turn in to the best multi inning reliever in MLB going ~100 innings out of the pen to get to his 4 WAR. Any particular reason why on this? It wasn't like he was better the first time through the order? Seems like a disaster bringing him in and counting on him for multiple innings when there's a 50/50(?) chance he just won't be able to throw a strike from the get go. This is the bold predictions thread...the idea that he learns to throw strikes again is about as bold as it gets. I guess bolder would be to predict Almora gets 80 walks and 20 homeruns, but that's just crazy insane person talk...
  7. Either Heyward or Chatwood has a monster year. 4+ WAR minimum. I'm not sure I want to consider what circumstances would have to come together for Chatwood to even get that opportunity...
  8. Meh...The Cubs have had enough Hundleys catch for them over the years.
  9. In one sense, it could help in the meaningless statistics area. If there's an opener, the established starter who comes into the game second won't have to to get 5 innings to get a win. Likewise, if you enter the game with a deficit, even if you stink after you come in, the loss could very well be on the other guy. Truly meaningless stats, but we know how much they matter to these guys.
  10. All the more reason to not waste time asking for the universal DH? Go for the biggest fish then, no? Opening with a softball that makes the already more popular other side look good seems like a bad idea No big changes are going to be implemented before the next CBA is negotiated. These kinds of small potatoes changes happen in the interim. Nothing valuable is exchanged right now.
  11. 50% more per year, and 300% more over the course of a decade is a huge difference. No one is trading for Heyward and his entire contract. but acting like there's a negligible difference between what he's owed, and what Harper will be owed is illogical.
  12. Most rule changes don't impact the roster the same way the DH does.
  13. Since no one else is saying, I'll go ahead and put this out there. Wade Miley sucks, and the owners blow. The two options don't have to be mutually exclusive from each other.
  14. So KB will be getting $30 mil+ in 3 years He's been worth $184M already, so he really should be getting that $30M now.
  15. I mean, we had confirmation of that 1 week after game 7.
  16. They can save money in the showers by bringing a friend...
  17. His butt.
  18. Wait...what?!
  19. You know what would be awesome? Signing someone who deserves more than a minor league deal...
  20. he got a deal like last week yeah but were they in agreement about it Yes, they agreed on a contract outside of arbitration.
  21. What did he say?
  22. And then they'll bring Machado out during the closing ceremonies?
  23. And .318 the year before. There are no guarantees at his age.
  24. What happens with this if someone gets hurt in spring training? You can no longer trade to fill that gap? Or let's say you finally sign your target, you can no longer trade away the extra pieces on your roster.
  25. This is a weird take. It's like saying, "At least Louis CK isn't Harvey Wienstein."
