  1. I disagree for 3 reasons. #1- The character clause was originally put in to keep Jackson out of the HoF and to handle situations regarding gambling. #2- Cobb and Anson were both put in well past their own playing days, so character was not so much an issue for either of them. #3- While Cobb was a racist, he never broke the law in regards to this fact. Laws may have changed and he no longer would be welcome in today's society, but for his time, sadly, he represented a significant portion of society. You cant go after someone when standards have obviously changed. Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire did break the law, and made a traveshamockery of the Congressional Hearings. (eg Sammy suddenly forgetting he can in fact speak English). None of them deserve the opportunity to represent the game or to be placed in the pantheon of excellence. because they are all cheating bums.
  2. Not a problem... http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/rules.htm Specifically look at section 5 on voting.
  3. Actually, you can. There are 2 character clauses in fact that can preclude baseball players from going into the Hall of Fame. McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds should be nullified just on the basis of their Congressional testimonials alone. And Bonds shouldnt even be allowed on the ballot until the Balco mess is cleaned up totally. At the progression through the court system and with the witnesses being uncooperative, it may take another 20 years at this pace. Shockingly, there is a whole world outside the U.S. where you have to prove your innocence. Even in this country, provisions under the Patriot Act now require you to do the same thing. I just think the players should step up and stop hiding. Thats why i hate them and Rose. Admit what you did in the first place, take responsibility for your actions, and take your punishment like a man. Maybe you find redemption and maybe you dont. But its better in the long run for everyone if you make your own peace.
  4. Think it was after/during the 2004 season at West Tenn. Hopefully, he is a late bloomer, because i was never impressed with him in the minors when i saw him play.
  5. I disagree, and Sosa, Bonds, and McGwire should all be DQ'd as well. You have to have respect for yourself and the game and all 4 have shown a consistent lack of it over there baseball lives imo.
  6. Ya, most of the big questions about him are related to character flaws...wife beating and clubhouse mayhem b/c of anger management issues are the chief concerns. I will take a cup of No Thank You and put up with lesser production with better attitude.
  7. Ok, then why not just say that then beat around the bush?
  8. That is a stupid rule then, and has no place for being in existence. If the 1 and 2 teams are supposed to play, of course it would be an at large team from the same conf. for the Title game. Why even have this rule?
  9. Hmm. Wisky has snuck back into this. USC wins tonight over ND, and we move up to #5- with thanks to South Fla. UCLA beats USC next week, and Arkansas beats Fla in the SEC Championship game, and.... Wisky goes to #3 and qualifies for the BCS, as the 3rd team from the Power Conferences has to be #3 to qualify. It is still a longshot, but one can hope.
  10. 21 1b have been selected to Cooperstown thus far: Cap Anson Jake Beckley Jim Bottomley Dan Brouthers Orlando Cepeda Frank Chance Roger Connor Jimmie Foxx Lou Gehrig Hank Greenberg George Kelly Harmon Killebrew Buck Leonard Willie McCovey Johnny Mize Eddie Murray Tony Perez George Sisler Mule Suttles Ben Taylor Bill Terry I think Thome and Thomas both go for sure when they punch 500 HR. Bagwell is more interesting. He does have the numbers and several awards. However, allegations of steroids and his lifestyle with his ex-wife will certainly raise questions with the voters. Depends on how intent the baseball purists are going to go after the players of the Steroid Era. Think he will pop in on the 2nd or 3rd try.
  11. Thank you...that was bugging me. Old age is a bad thing kiddies...
  12. Ya, Forbes Magazine better be paying attention to this. Right now only the Yanks are valued above $1B. With 4 or 5 groups already stating public interest with no public admittance of a sale, the Cubs have to have gained some ground on that front. Got to think we would be approaching at least the 850-900 million dollar mark by now.
  13. GM Jr has to be the favorite so far. 5/50 is criminally stupid or insane for his services. My dark horse is the AJ Pierzynski of the Outfield, Mr Douche Bag himself, JD Drew. He falls and breaks a hip in mid April and is lost for the rest of the season, as it is an odd year after all. Hopefully it is not the Cubs who are the unwitting dupes in this equation. Who was the old Cubs pitcher who used to do the same pattern with his ERA? Good one year, bad the next? Whomever signs JD Drew better have a back up plan for when he decides he doesnt need to play 100 games this year or needs more money down the road. Hopefully he goes over to the American League as just about every National League has had their fill of his act.
  14. you mean 2005. Pierre kicked buttocks in 2004...it was his career year. Pierre still is a slightly bigger threat, although Figgins is way more versatile. Dont want either one for the money they think that they are worth.
  15. Chone had a worse season offensively than Pierre did last season. The OPS hawks wont let you get away with this one.
  16. Criminally insane. I am a big fan of Arturo Moreno and the work his crew has done in putting the Angels back on the map in South Cali. But this is whacko. It looks as though desperation set in and Stoneman/Forsch went the easy crazy way. No way GM Jr deserves Pierre+ type money. Just totally crazy.
  17. The Cubs are waiting on a physical before Soriano is signed. Assuming there are no complications, look for the PC to be tomorrow afternoon with contractual details soon after.
  18. The Stat site i use is Yahoo. Its pretty easy to use and sortable for most of the stats http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/stats Michigan's Defense going into today had a 1.3yd per carry avg against it this season. (One of the main reasons they wore us down). Texas, Miami (FLA), and LSU are the other noteworthy run stopping defenses...and one of the main reasons i would like to see a Wisky-LSU matchup as i am sick of the Wisky-War Eagle matchup every year (2003, 2005). As far as passing, LSU and Wisky are the only 2 top 15 BCS eligible Passing/Per Game defenses. OSU is in the Top 25 and interestingly enough, also leads the country in number of picks this season. Arkansas, NDU, and USC all have defensive teams that give up less than 200 yds via the air on average. Michigan surrenders 201.5. These will change after today, but not that much for USC and NDU. I was really impressed with the pressure that the USC team was bringing on Cal. They shut down Cal fairly easily giving up only 181 yds to a team that averages 266 via the air offensively. Louisville usually throws for around 275, although that is somewhat deceiving b/c of Brohm's injury problem for a few games.
  19. I know who we should get.... LEE ELIA! Cant you see it now? Injuries? Why dont you guys just #$#! shut up! Here is the infamous transcript, lmao...this is a no brainer.http://quote.webcircle.com/cgi-bin/features.cgi?idFeature=4 and most definitely not suited for work.
  20. LSU, Auburn, and Wisky are all out b/c no more than 2 teams can go from a major conf school (unless a team is rated 3 and sadly Wisky cant get to 3 this year). WVU or Rutgers will also have 2 losses. And as for Louisville and WVU defense, they are 21 and 28 in total defense, but 40+ in yardage given up. When they get into it with schools that have better offenses and defenses, this disparity will kill them. Could you really imagine taking the WVU defensive team who gives up 308 yds per game against an Ohio St? 2280 yds given up in the air this season or right about in 90th in the country. Smith would pick them apart. Same thing if they ran into USC or NDU. I know they have had a lot of teams trying to catch up, but still that is a lot of yardage in the air. Do you guys seriously think you could try to outscore a OSU or USC?
  21. Well after watching Wannstedts team quit on Thurs, if Louisville loses to Pitt then they have no biz in the BCS. But you are right, WVU isnt eliminated yet, but they need a lot of help. No way would i take a second Big East team over Boise St. They deserve a shot, and all the Big East teams have had theirs. Also cant see them jumping the Florida/Ark loser either. I think it is only for non major conf teams and NDU for the top 8...here are the procedures http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/eligibility
  22. Seek professional help immediately. Wisky is 6th Nationally in Total Defense per Game and 7th in Total Yds allowed. (And we should add at least 3 spots on both, b/c of Rutgers, Michigan, and LSU stats from today). Coupled with a freshman 1500 yd rusher that is a pretty good combo. Our only loss was Michigan, who we played tough on the road for over a half. Sure our non conf schedule was weaker than normal b/c the Mtn West and the MAC had down years (3 of our 4 non cons) but with just under 75% underclassmen, i dont understand why Bielema isnt a shoo in for coach of the year.
  23. Good point, forgot they added that tie in with the new 2 auto bids.
  24. This just in, Alou grounds out to third base. Film at 11.
  25. I have it a bit different. NC- OSU v USC Rose- Mich v Fla Sugar- Ark v Tex Orange- NDU v Louisville Fiesta- Ga Tech v Boise St. I have USC going ahead of UM next week with a victory over NDU and UCLA the following week. I think Fla will beat Ark in the SEC Champ and Tex beats Nebraska in the Big 12. I think the folks at the Sugar Bowl would rather see a matchup of a classic regional rivalry rather than Notre Dame.
