  1. =D> Well played.
  2. 2006 payroll minus FAs: 105 million. 2007 FA class: 40+ million. Total Payroll: 145+ million. Cost of complete failure and paying a luxury tax: PRICELESS.
  3. Andruw Jones is a FA next season and he has every intention of making it to the market. Would hate for the Cubs to overpay and not be able to sign him to an extension. Think his agent is looking for something in the neighborhood of 7 years and 150 million with a no-trade clause.
  4. Salary info can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=36396 IBL.
  5. Michael Barrett can also slide to 3b in an emergency type of situation. Izturis has also played 28 games there, so they could slide the 2b over to SS and put Soriano at 2b if something drastic did happen. Theriot's arm strength is the factor on playing him in an every day situation at 3b.
  6. Badgers! Is there a more cloying or annoying defensive squad in all of America...methinks not. Alando Tucker...wow, just wow. Kammron Taylor is the Silent Killer. 7 of 9 now against Marquette. Bring us some Panthers next Sat. The Grateful Red will be rocking. Just love whacking the Big Least.
  7. Maholm is not available. He was one of the Rockies rumored targets and the Pirates said he was untouchable.
  8. If you look at the #s, "those geniuses" on this board were actually correct. In Hill's 1st stint with the Cubs last year, he had 15 walks in 19 innings. He was sent back down, and they tried a different approach with him. When he came back up in late July, after one shaky outing, he had 21 walks in 76 innings. Its not necessarily about scouting, sometimes its about coaching. Now only if we had a pitching coach at the Major League level.
  9. Wells, Jones, Hunter, Cameron, and Crawford (Carl Crawford, and yes i know he is playing LF right now). Also Freel, Rowand (ick), and possibly a few salary arby dogs will be available as well, like a Bay or a Sizemore if those teams dont step up and pay to play.
  10. I said one year. We still have several holes that need to be filled to seriously contend for a Series run. Just need to improve and take it one step at a time. Get better next year and make the push in '08, our 100th Anniversary. Could you imagine if we added someone like an Andruw Jones in '08? Would have a pretty stout payroll and lineup.
  11. Doesnt matter if it is Boston, or the far side of the moon. everywhere he has ever been, it has started well and ended up like a train wreck. The Dodgers really want him dead. Glad he had the sense to go Boston. Would have hated to see a bean ball war started with a few of those Dodger pitchers. Let the Yanks beat some sense into him maybe. I can tell you, Drew and Ramirez will not survive the season together. One or both will be dead. Will be the new Bonds/Kent.
  12. The Sox saving us for the second time in one evening. Thank God yet again. As ESPN said earlier, do the Cubs really think they can win this year? I agree with them. Put Lofton in CF for 1 year and let Pie develop. If he cant, 5 of the top 8 CFs in the game are FAs next season. So we could be more selective than just settling for a problem.
  13. Kill me now then please.
  14. Please change the title of this thread. There is only 1 "Hawk" in Chicago, and he doesnt announce for the Black Sox.
  15. Thank God they got him and not us. Keep his poor attitude and injury plagued buttocks far from here. Now he can work on being the most hated player in both leagues. Hope he gives AJ a run for his money.
  16. That is a misconception. There is a product curve that business is based upon. Newspapers may at this point still be somewhat profitable- however, the industry is declining. So while you may have higher profit yields, you see declining growth and eventually sales. Eventually this trend catches up and you see a cash crisis or a sustained period of losses until the product has its life cycle ended. To put it another way, newspapers are going from cash cows to dogs.
  17. Bowden doesnt remember the deal, because he was hammered at the time.
  18. Still he doesnt have the Billion + its going to take to outbid 5 different groups. Why sell to Cuban when you can get more money elsewhere? And if Murdoch even thinks about buying the Trib.....i may be going to prison for a very long time.
  19. Get ready for more disappointment. Not an awful month for the Badgers. Cincy beat WVU in football, coupled with the NDSU win over Marquette means we dont have to hear about being the marquis defeats for those programs anymore. Missou St was a disaster though. I know we have some big games coming up against Marquette and Pitt, but man i cant wait until Butch matches up against that dude from OSU. Only thing better than shutting the Buckeyes mouths is beating the Hawkeyes, but its close...real close.
  20. for the first (and hopefully last) time in history, i completely agree with Rocket's assessment. Those sleeveless unis were a travesty to baseball and all things holy. George Grande and Jeff Brantley in the booth this year too. Should be something to see.
  21. Ya, but Cuban will have to outbid 5 other groups though. And i just dont think he has the capital to outbid the Wrigley Family and several others. Did he say anything about the Donald? Thought it was hysterical last month when Trump called him one of the biggest losers in sports.
  22. If they used steroids improperly, it would have been illegal within their jurisdiction (legal) and unethical in MLB (ethical). I still dont understand why it has to be proven that they did it. It is a select club. If you dont meet the standards of the club, and by that i mean the perception as well as the record, why do you automatically get inclusion into the club? The burden of proof should be on them to prove they are worthy. These guys are supposed to represent the best of the best. I dont see why Sammy, Barry, or Mark would be anything to emulate. McGwire has admitted he was unethical with the andio, which was legal at the time, but very unethical. Sammy and Barry will be held to that standard. It may or may not have been legal but is very unethical, and therefore, they should be excluded from the club, even if it is never legally proven.
  23. #1- The police are trying to do just this right now, except Barry and his boys are not cooperating with authorities. #2- You are confusing the justice system (legal) with ethical behavior. You can be legal, but not ethical- which is why i pointed out the ethics clause in the portion of the balloting. The 3 mentioned do not meet the criteria established for ethical behavior among professionals. #3- Read the Patriot Act. You might be surprised even for America what you have to prove these days. Hopefully you arent on the no fly list either. Good luck with that if you are.
