  1. I was watching WGN tonight (they were even critical of what happened), but after the fight was over, Barrett looked like he was trying to explain things to the guys on the bench, and it looked like Theriot said something to him that made Barrett turn stop and turn around. I wonder if it was Ryan that told him that he needed to apologize or something. And what a class act DLee is. Gave a really nice little blurb to the media on the team. Stand up guy and took the company line. Would have made Crash Davis proud.
  2. Pretty good if the rookie gets lippy with Rich. Battery has a whole new meaning now.
  3. They just showed a clip of the 2 player-manager fights along with the other dugout fights over the years...Reggie Jackson v. Billy Martin and Ted Lilly v. John Gibbons...thats good stuff. I think Piniella has to target Dempster or Murton now that Barrett has been defeated.
  4. Why would this thread be locked? Z is almost certainly hurt. He probably has a high tolerance for pain, plus with millions at stake he naturally wants to give the impression of being a completely healthy pitcher. Because of the 6 other topics about this already. viewtopic.php?t=40804 viewtopic.php?t=40702 viewtopic.php?t=40693 viewtopic.php?t=36172 viewtopic.php?t=40455 viewtopic.php?t=40189 viewtopic.php?t=40058 viewtopic.php?t=39575 and that is just the first 20 pages of threads.

  6. No way any of those get done. Mets and Yanks are the 2 most likely but Milledge has maturity issues and i am not sold on Pelfrey. I dont think that the Yanks have any prospects that would make up the difference between Hughes and Z, even in a contract year for Z. No way the Dodgers, Dbacks take those deals, especially in the middle of a race, and no way ARod ever becomes a Cub.
  7. the smart thing to do would be to go out and get a C using a Murton (while he still has a high ceiling). Barrett more than likely wont be resigned next year, so we could just go ahead and plug whomever in that hole. I would like Salty, and barrett being from Atlanta would be a good fit there, but dont think Murton and Barrett get that deal done. Think that the Braves would be asking for a lot more b/c Salty has a chance of being something special.
  8. Dont think it is an MLB issue per se. Nothing happened on the field. Think this is going to be a Tribune decision.
  9. Gammons talked to the Rangers GM the other nite. The Rangers want 4 young players for him- 2 position and 2 pitchers. Gammons said no one will give them even 3, so a trade is very unlikely. No way the Rangers take Z with the contract issues and everything else going on.
  10. Seriously doubt YES lets Girardi out of his contract. Most people say when Torre hangs it up that it is more than likely going to be Girardi taking over that clubhouse. And i would really question his sanity/wisdom if he wanted to get tangled up in this mess.
  11. Look at the angle on ESPN running during the highlights (you can see the exchange off the game page at ESPN as well). Towards the end of the discussion, Z is clearly backing away from Barrett when Barrett says something. I can only think that Barrett said the magic phrase or something close to it, at which point Z went after him. Probably not the smartest place to have a discussion, but it takes 2 to tango and this was not all on Z.
  12. Thank God. Barrett is finally going to be gone from this team. He was already in Uncle Lou's dugout, and he just punched his ticket out of town. Hope Z knocked some sense into him. And the only one to blame for Z's unhappiness this year is Tribune Mgt. If he would have been happy and secure with his new deal, i guarantee this probably doesnt happen. Z doesnt have the tempermant yet to handle things when they go the wrong direction. He is learning, but its a process.
  13. thats true. But he is all 2nd among active catchers in throwing out baserunners, behind only Pudge at just under 42%. So if they are stealing, it may not be just Barretts bad arm and some of the changes to the pitching staff may have been warranted. It will be interesting to see nonetheless.
  14. the question that really needs to be asked here: did he scream wahhhh as he rounded third?
  15. RF is not a stand alone stat. Makes many assumptions that may or may not be accurate.
  16. He has had some bad years (like last year) and then he has some good years like 2004/2005. Average or slightly below avg. range does not equal terrible.
  17. Laughable. Girardi was an excellent catcher. Posada isnt that bad. And Jeter is pretty good (although not great at SS).
  18. No. Think it is pretty much the 2 philosophies at work: the old school wanting strength up the middle at the 4 spots, and the new school wanting to max out OPS. Third school developing taking philosophys from both. Easy one as i lived near there at the time. 1987 Twins- Tim Laudner was the catcher (Ops=631) and Greg Gagne at SS (Ops=740). Edit for More: 1981 Dodgers: Scioscia 686 Russell 576. 1984 Cardinals: Porter 749 Smith 653. 1985 Royals: Sundberg 689 Concepcion 490. 1988 Dodgers: Scioscia 642 Griffin 512. 1989 A's: Steinbach 671 Gallego 655. 1992 Blue Jays: Borders 675 Lee 659. 2005 WhiteSux: AJidiot 728 Uribe 713. 2006 Cardinals: Molina 595 Eckstein 694.
  19. I think the Brewers Magic # is down to 104. This is just sad: NL Central v. NL East: 23-33 NL Cental v. NL West: 21-44 Interleague: 5-10 Total: 49-87 .361
  20. Actually it probably will be- Saturday, June 30th, 2012.
  21. i think its like a court of law. We are presumed funny until proven serious.
  22. Sully kills me. Massive wall of text and then a lovely zing right at the end. That is good good stuff. Keep twisting that dagger, keep twisting that dagger.
