  1. Well i think you have to look at the reality, big picture of the situation. Right now he is under contract for 08, 09, and 10 for 81M and will be a FA at age 35. At that point he will probably play out the next 5 years for Shef type money at around 10-13M in todays money for an additional 50 to 65M. Sum Total is 131 to 146M. If he opts out of his current contract at years end when he is 32, he can probably get someone to sign him at 23 to 24M a year pretty easily for a 5 year deal with the type of numbers he is putting up. Thats 115 to 120M. Tack on 3 more years at 10 to 13M and you are talking about 145 to 160M. More earning potential plus he gets to select a place that he would like to play. Maybe he wants out of NY, or maybe he just wants to stick it to the Yankees financially for making him deal with the circus. Either way, its a smart business decision.

  3. If my catcher was calling my game with an almost 8 run average, the very least thing i would do would be to punch him in the face and send him to the hospital. Another great reason to hate Barrett, besides defensively sucking and a craptacular .246/.303 performance.
  4. Agreed, when Aramis comes back, Fontenot should stay, Pagan go down. Either move JJ or MM when ARam comes back or send Murton down. MM is beyond useless in RF and on the basepaths.
  5. I say decline the option on Izturis and give Ronny another shot. He is getting back on track at Iowa at the moment (.312/.436). Have to keep in mind that he was a 23 year old kid from Venezuela last year. Probably tremendous shock of all kinds going on with that kind of pressure he was under. Next year he will be 25, so we can tell what we have one way or the other.
  6. It was all part of the plot by Bud Selig, Doug Melvin, and Dan O'Brien to take over the world. But you didnt hear that from me. Shhhh.
  7. People interested in pitching for the Reds should just join a witness protection plan instead. The latest victim is Milton. Going to need complete elbow reconstruction. Finishes 16-27 for the Reds in 3 years at 25.5 million. Also will be his 3rd elbow surgery and 5th trip to the DL for them. Did lead the league in HRs given up in 2005. Probably would have given Marquis a run for his money last year if he had been healthy. He lost 7 starts and gave up 29 to Jasons 38 or so. If his career is over, then he will finish at 87-84 with a 5.01 ERA in 265 games. The TJ is a beast for pitchers. Run Bronson, run. You might be next. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2901263

  10. Myers is on pace to be back next week. Alf has done such a good job that they are moving him back into the rotation in Garcia's spot. They also signed Jose Mesa for setup.
  11. Joeblows blows another one after his team fights back from a 7-0 early deficit. Only a Cubs reliever, yes, only a Cubs reliever could possibly do that. Nice job joe
  12. Marquis is available also. His day to side throw + he didnt go that long Saturday either.
  13. Gameday has 128...79 strikes and 49 balls.
  14. He is thinking his bullpen is tired and/or Sox. Z overtaxed the pen early in the season, so he gets to make amends now. Lou is correct.
  15. wow. Seattle scored a TD on Cleveland earlier. Cleveland has fought back to 7 up heading into the bottom of the 8th.
  16. wow, we must want to lose this one. Why wont Lou use Marquis and Lilly here?
  17. You are incorrect. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070611&content_id=2019342&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  18. should go into transactions. Retroactive i would bet.
  19. what is Dunn's batted ball in play %? Has to be horrific. I think that is a legitimate complaint with him, the Cubs, and the history of this franchise. But no way we spend the money to get him.
  20. He lives in Ahwatukee, Arizona according to wiki. Someone with a Phoenix telly book could probably look it up for us or someone with access to one of the credit/security search engines.
