  1. I've heard that the deal is Perez and a choice of three of the Cards top prospects, which Cleveland will choose one. Hendry made a few head-scratching moves last offseason. And now we will truly see what kind of GM he is, because he will no longer be able to throw money at a position to try and solve it. Our entire outfield sucks right now and they are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
  2. BTW, are the Cubs planning on bringing up any of the three pitchers acquired in the DeRosa deal? The bullpen could use some help.
  3. This is the absolute icing on the cake. Congrats, Hendry. Now the Cubs division rival has acquired Mark DeRosa and you are stuck with Milton Bradley for 2+ years. But I'm sure Milton is ready to turn over a new leaf. Worst case scenario meet the '09 Cubs. I'm sure everything will be fine once Ramirez comes back. Bring on Bourbonnais.
  4. Don't take into account the fact that he's had the martyr complex ever since he came on board. He's just had an unlucky combination of the umpire conspiracy and his absolute horses**t play. And it seems like his teammates and his manager don't like him. Other than that, it's been a solid signing. It can't be him. It must be everyone else.
  5. That's the fire, passion and left-handedness that the Cubs sorely lacked last year.
  6. You're right.....it just so happened that a record that stood for 30+ years just happened to be obliterated by three players that were all on steroids. And in your mind an equal factor would be smaller stadiums, smaller strike zones, poor pitchers and juiced balls? If you want to ignore the obvious, be my guest.
  7. Sammy Sosa was an excellent ball player who is hated on by buffoons who don't appreciate what he did for the Cubs organization. Sammy Sosa was a ball player who's stats were aided by performance enhancing drugs. There are "buffoons" who will still ignore that fact. The fact that he plays for "your team" does not make it acceptable. He is a cheater and a liar, plain and simple. Alll the scorn and hateful comments directed toward McGuire and Palmiero and Giambi can now be applied to everyone's favorite RF. I forgot about the corked bat, also. But that was just a batting practice bat that happened to make it into the game supply. Oh that's right, it doesn't apply here because he played for the Cubs.
  8. Shocking. Hmmm.....where are the Sosa apologists?
  9. Perry must have been the one who vowed the Cubs must get more left-handed.
  10. This smacks of Zambrano using "missing his family" as an excuse to vent against perceived slights against him. "You don't like me? I'm going to take my ball and go home in 5 years" seems more plausible to me. Did Z not realize that Mother's Day was during the baseball season? Maybe he should have checked his day planner. If he misses his family so much, have them join him during the season. I think Z makes enough to afford lodging for his family. Z needs to shut up and grow up.
  11. Great point. Is this scenario going to be a season-long thing? Bradley tweaks something, PH's for 7-10 days and then gets back in the lineup and tweak something again. Go on the DL, get as close to 100% as possible and see if you can come off of the DL and play for oh, lets say 3 weeks in a row.
  12. I've heard it in other places as well, it seems especially prevalent among fans who hate how he either walks, ks or homers. But he is on the field, which helps.
  13. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-03-cubs-brite-chicago-jun03,0,4494611.story Big Z needs to get it together. If you're already suspended because of your stupid behavior, it might behoove you to show up for the team flight. Another distraction for this already under performing team.
  14. Even if they win the division, this team is not winning the World Series.
  15. There must be a nationwide media conspiracy against Milton which has resulted in him playing for seven different teams since 2000. They are positioned on a grassy knoll in each city where they only leave to "trick" him into saying inflammatory things. The problem is Milton is like a mound of clay and the media shapes him into whatever they want. He cannot be responsible for any problems whatsoever. He has brought the fire and passion that this team has sorely needed.
  16. I have posted this before, but I will post it again.....you can bring up the failures of the Yankees and how the Braves only won 1 WS title out of all those division winning teams, but the fact still remains somehow the Cubs have managed to go 100 years without winning a title. Which means one thing: The Cubs cannot be compared to any of those teams. Any team with one ring is one more than the Cubs have. You can post the great regular season records of the Cubs, but as the saying goes "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that ring". Now if you are a Cub fan that thinks that winning 97 games and getting swept in the playoffs is somehow a "good year", more power to you. You are the Cubs fans that keep the whole motor chugging. From the believe bracelets to the Cubs convention. Just be aware that there are Cub fans that have seen this movie before and would like something a little more than a 97 win season to be followed up by an exit from the playoffs. Defending this organization doesn't make you any more or better of a Cubs fan than those of us who hold the team to a higher standard.
  17. The Cubs are the epitome of a "driving range golfer". They look great until they are on the course, then they are hooking and slicing all over the place. I believe this is the first golf analogy used to describe the Cubs, but it just popped into my head while reading this thread.
  18. The Cubs aren't going to trade Lee because he's not real good right now. He's not the 40 HR Lee of a few years ago. That ship has sailed. The only way he gets traded is if he waives his NTC and if the Cubs eat a majority of the salary.
  19. I don't see this happening. Peavy can just wait it out and approve a trade to a team of his choosing or he sticks it out in San Diego. It's going to be a surprise if he goes to an A.L. club. He's getting paid either way.
  20. How many times do I have to say "put together a team that will succeed over the regular season" before you acknowledge it? How does one equal the other? Haven't the Cubs been pretty successful over the last two years....in the regular season?
  21. I heard in spring training, I believe it was Kap, that Lee was put on the block and there were no takers.
  22. Yup. One way or the other, a righty was gone and a left-handed thumper was on his way. Fukudome and Fontenoy just aren't enough pop from the left side to face a bunch of stud righties in the playoffs. In hindsight, things should've been done differently (though plenty of us have been advocating Hoff over Dlee for some time now) but their plan to get some left-handed thump was spot-on. Here's the bad thing about that train of thought: The man signed to be the "left-handed thumper" doesn't really have a track record of playing a full season. 141 is the most he's ever played in one season. The Cubs already have a third baseman who misses time. And the man most capable of playing third or a corner OF spot is the one who was traded, and to top it off Derosa put up good numbers. I guess Hendry thought that Aaron Miles would somehow fill the Derosa role. Ryan Freel will now fill the DeRosa role.
