  1. And Brewer fans are eating it up. Just like they interpreted his "exoneration" as him actually being innocent. Smoke is pouring from the building but they won't admit there is a fire.
  2. Sosa, Prior, Wood are higher than everyone there except Grace (Sosa is higher than Grace). Sosa wasn't a product of the system.
  3. The NFL gets a pass because there isn't the same regard for the record books and "sanctity" of the game that MLB has. And because people love the violence, and the game is as violent as ever. But it's obvious that the NFL is juiced. The one thing that always strikes me when watching old (not all that old, even 20 years ago) NFL highlights is how small the players were. Today's players are monsters in comparison. Bigger, faster, stronger. And not just a little, either. And yes, the hypocrisy of the media when it comes to MLB and steroid use is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is the feigned ignorance regarding the steroid era, and how "shocked and betrayed" they felt about the "revelations" of PED use. Its disingenuous horse [expletive]. The rampant steroid use was at best ignored and at worst tacitly encouraged by the league, ownership and the media that ate all of it up. And for most of the steroid era, it wasn't even illegal within the sport. Now if you use now, you're in a whole different category (at least in my book) than McGwire, Sosa, Clemens et al. Now a player really has to have an arrogant disregard to use what is explicitly banned.
  4. That wasn't the point. You don't see the irony that you (a fan of an irrelevant program) pointed out your amusement of someone of a recently (not currently, and not for most of the last 40 years) irrelevant team talking about relevance when your team has been irrelevant forever? He has a point. He didn't bring ISU into the discussion, and he wasn't solely taking a jab at IU's relevance, just pointing out that an IU fan talking down another team for being irrelevant was silly. And he's right. Now if the entire point of his post was to make fun of IU for have been recently irrelevant, you'd have a grievance. I wouldn't even be commenting on this at all, but there is a great tendency to respond to criticism by judging the standing of the critic's favorite teams instead of the validity of the critique, which is stupid and annoying. If your favorite team being in good standing were a requisite to critique another, we as Cubs fans would all be very, very quiet when it came to criticizing anyone else.
  5. Especially if he's on an innings limit, which he certainly will be.
  6. lol wtf These people are some of the most deluded twits I've ever heard of. That's just spectacularly stupid.
  7. Yeah, both Harry and Steve are too ingrained in my childhood memories to really hate them. Though Stone has ruined my childhood perception of him by (continuing to be?) being a pompous [expletive] and that call by Harry was pretty terrible (at least during the post game celebration it was) I can see why people wouldn't like him. Towards the end Harry was such a mess, and the ineffectual, drunken old man thing went hand in hand with the "lovable loser" culture. I grew up with Harry too, but he simply wasn't any good for several years before his death. My best friend (also huge Cubs fan) used to joke about hoping he would take a spill from the booth while doing his stretch routine and bring the whole thing to a merciful (and memorable) end. Like others, my opinion of Stone changed as I matured, going from admiration to disdain.
  8. I don't, really. Harry was a hot mess for several years before he passed. And not in a charming way, either.
  9. That could be fun, but the problem is we'd be looking at a rewrite of the script when it comes to how the team will go about spending money on the actual product on the field. Presumably that type of decision is not close to happening. They would have to turn around and work the with the state and some other town to start the process, then probably go out and spend a hell of a lot more than they were intending on spending on the Wrigley upgrade. It would mean years of waiting for that new stadium while staying in Wrigley without any increased revenue streams in the meantime. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it'll happen, or that it would even be seriously considered. If/when push comes to shove, I think the neighborhood will make concessions. I'd just like to see those deluded Wrigleyville twits get their comeuppance. It's a fantasyland scenario.
  10. The larger part of me would be really depressed by that, but another part of me would really love to see those smug motherfuckers left with no baseball and a dilapidated Wrigley in their laps as return for their audacity (especially the rooftop owners). I understand that some neighborhood rights should be protected, but I get the distinct feeling many of them feel like the Cubs owe them everything and they owe the Cubs nothing. Seriously, screw those people. I would pay to see the looks on their faces if the Cubs announced they were leaving Wrigleyville.
  11. It helped the final score that OSU completely went to [expletive] when Thomas went out and stayed [expletive] until the final buzzer. That game was not as close as the final score indicated. I would say that shooting 25% for most of the game(which just isn't too common) and shooting a way lower FT percentage than normal for Iowa kind of cancels that out though. Maybe so, but if Thomas hadn't gotten cut, I think OSU wins by 20 or more. The last 10-11 minutes were just ugly as hell.
  12. It helped the final score that OSU completely went to [expletive] when Thomas went out and stayed shitty until the final buzzer. That game was not as close as the final score indicated.
  13. " That's [expletive] awesome.
  14. Richardson in particular. Worthless. What a shameful display this game has been. What is Griffey bringing to the table? Can't guard anyone, can't rebound, doesn't make shots. Yeah, him too.
  15. Richardson in particular. Worthless. What a shameful display this game has been.
  16. I'm pretty sure that's been known since talk of the DBacks trading him first started.
  17. No no. Not basketball. Just Iowa women. In general. And more specifically, how they look. Says the Wisconsin guy.
  18. At all? Virtually 100%. This offseason? I'd say less than 10%.
  19. No, Kyle made a deadpan joke and people took it seriously. I'd give up any 3 prospects the Marlins wanted.
  20. Farmersonly.com Because city folks just don't get it.
  21. 2005. That team almost chucked its way to a NC Quit talking about basketball. 62% of Head/Brown's shot attempts were 3's. They hit about 42% of them. That's fantastic outside shooting. I don't know why you take such offense to that Fantastic outside shooting isn't godless chucking. Godless chuckers chuck because that's all they can do. It was a great passing team (which led to open looks) with a good inside game as well. It was a very different animal than this year's team, which is prone to chucking.
  22. Which ones? There's no way trading Rizzo, Baez, Vizcaino and Samardzija for one player makes sense. It sure as [expletive] does if you think you've got a Baby Pujols or Baby Cabrera on your hands. Half of the guys you listed are just prospects. I'd be all right with trading any one of the young core MLB players (Rizzo/Castro/Shark) plus 2-3 top prospects for Stanton, but I think you'd be running a real risk of taking a net loss if you're dealing two of the aforementioned core players already in the bigs. Even if Stanton becomes a 7-9 WAR player, I don't think trading two of Rizzo/Shark/Castro plus a couple of our top five prospects benefits the team much, and there's a distinct possibility that it would make it worse off.
  23. holy [expletive] i wish i would have said something worse than i did. when he cut illinois from his list i sent him bible verses about traitors. great fun. I admire your passion for the Illini, but you are clearly not of sound mind. It does entertain from time to time though, I won't lie.
