  1. Well, if there was year Iowa was gonna get us in Champaign, this was it. But it was an exciting game, at least. Maybe Iowa can win there again in another 14 years or so. In related news, I can't think of a player I've has a more love/hate feeling about than Tracy Abrams. But it's mostly hate.
  2. Is it actually going to be aired?
  3. Yeah, and I like him, but I suppose I have him in the trade bait category in my mind (provided Javy and Bryant both make it).
  4. Absolutely. He was a nice bonus in a trade that was already pretty favorable for the Cubs.
  5. If Olt does not rebound, I have a difficult time envisioning Javy anywhere but 3B, and Bryant in the OF. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I would be stunned if Bryant is the Cubs' regular 3B at any point. I don't think Castro is going anywhere anytime soon. The X factor here is clearly Olt. If he rebounds, that is going to open up a lot of possibilities, and create a bit of a logjam.
  6. I was pretty sure OSU wasn't very good before the B1G season started, but wow.
  7. At home with both Dawson and Payne out, Iowa almost has to win that game, imo.
  8. As an Illinois fan, I have a pretty good idea (this year, anyway). Still, it's pretty shocking coming from a quality Iowa team.
  9. This is a bad, bad offensive basketball team. Woof.
  10. Jokes on him. He's really going to be on The Running Man. If someone from that organization is going to be on The Running Man, it'd better be Loria.
  11. To get paid to do nothing. When the arbitrator ruled, his career was effctively over. I don't think ARod wants to embarrass himself on the diamond. Who said he'd embarrass himself? If anybody wants A-Rod off the diamond it's the Yankees, not A-Rod. Baseball is his life, he's not walking away no matter how badly the Yankees want him to He's not going to be welcome in any clubhouse, and if he persists, he'll be beaned with regularity. And frankly, he's not that great anymore anyway. Not nearly good enough to be worth the headache.
  12. I don't get what you mean. MLB was trying to suspend him without pay for like a year and a half, costing him $30m. Their punishment was going to be above and beyond what the CBA called for. He was fighting for the right to be treated fairly under the rules and save several million. He had no chance of success once the arbitrator ruled against him, it was effectively over. By proceeding as he has since then, he has severely complicated things for himself. The Union isn't going to lift a finger to do anything to help him beyond what they absolutely have to. He's now persona non grata in virtually all MLB circles. i think those reports have been leaked with a purpose and may not be true. Obviously he should have fought the suspension. Any player would have done the same. His lawsuit is his way of getting the Yankees to pay him o go away. They'll buyout his contract for Nickles on the dollar and Alex will retire. Oh, he absolutely should have appealed. But once the arbitrator ruled, that was the end of that. We'll see what the lawsuit gets him, but it had zero chance of success.

  14. So in a totally ill advised and futile attempt to salvage what amounts to one season, ARod has effectively ended his MLB career. Aside from the @%MM (and that is certainly significant), I'm having a hard time seeing what he thought he was going to gain from this crusade. His name was already mud and his lawyers have to have known that there was zero chance go success for this course of action. ARod must be insane.
  15. FTFY. All the results indicate is that New York was more persuasive, be it financially or otherwise (and by many accounts the Yankees utilized a number of things to woo Tanaka). It doesn't mean the Cubs weren't serious in their pursuit. If it comes to light that the Cubs offer was much, much lower, then we can question how serious the club was.
  16. With due respect, I don't think Gammons has known anything for a long while now. I put literally no stock in anything he says at this point. I wouldn't be so quick to brush off what he would know about this FO. Then again, he said Nomar wasn't going anywhere after the trade had already pretty much been made...and this FO was involved. That has a lot to do with it, and a million other things he's been wrong or off base about over the past decade.

  18. I'm not sure if they even need the city's backing...but I'm guessing their odds are pretty good and that they just wanted to avoid the whole process. The rooftops are desperate and have nowhere else to go, so I wouldn't take the fact that they're willing to go this route to mean that they have or should have any sort of confidence in winning. I'd take the fact that they're putting up the most contentious portion of all of this, the RF sign, now as a decent sign. It's a decent sign, but I'm starting to come around to the notion ownership is dragging things out intentionally and unnecessarily. It just seems like the deck is so stacked against the rooftops that it's like David vs. Goliath, and David doesn't even have a sling. Do the reno, and tell the rooftops to [expletive] off. If they want to sue to block the construction or get a bunch of the Cubs' money, let them try.
  19. I know it has been discussed before, but if the rooftops do sue, what are their odds of success, with the Cubs having the backing of the city?
  20. I still suspect that the Cubs made the high offer but Tanaka chose the Yankees for subjective reasons. Not the least of which it the prospect of winning in the near term. And the presence of Kuroda and Ichiro no doubt played some role. And Tanaka's wife. In a vacuum, I'd bet that Theo and Jed did all they could to sign Tanaka, but in context, the failure to do so is due, at least in part, to the fact that the major league team sucks out loud.
  21. And that's why you keep your work computer muted.
  22. it wasn't amazing, it was like my grandfather berating a metermaid. sherman was so mad he was tripping all over himself, there was even snot on his face. definitely an embarrassing display. Yeah, but it was amusing nonetheless. If I were a Seahawks fan, it'd probably bother me more.
  23. Hey, I hate hipsters as much as anyone, but I like the city of Seattle quite a bit.
  24. Hey, I said it was funny. And let's be honest, a huge percentage of these players and arrogant (often delusionally so) douchebags, and we all get sick and tired of hearing the same old, tired platitudes after every game when we know that it's not the least bit sincere.
  25. I wouldn't say raging, I thought it was hilarious. Totally unhinged and self-promoting, but funny. I'm not mad about it at all.
