  1. Helton and his sickness are killing me. I knew I was gambling when I took him....
  2. I think Dusty playing Jones against the slew of LHP the Cubs have faced so far hasn't helped Jaque's cold start.
  3. After actually reading it, neither do I. Seems pretty accurate. Much of what Perry writes is biased, so I assumed this would be as well.
  4. Dayn Perry is a Cardinals fan, there's your explanation.
  5. Lidge loads the bases with one out, on 3 walks. SF Kent, Lidge blows another.
  6. There is no concievable reason Neifi should start versus a LHP. None whatsoever. what's really unfortunate is (and I don't know if stats back me up, but..) I feel more confident when Neifi is batting righthanded. He seems to be less of a slappy hitter and more patient. He hits for more power as a RHB, but has a higher average as a LHB. His OPS's over the last 3 years are both abysmal, .639 as a LHB, and .696 as a RHB. The difference is all slugging pct., as his AVG and OBP are both lower as a RHB.
  7. There is no concievable reason Neifi should start versus a LHP. None whatsoever.
  8. It was SWEET. When he walked drew and Kent (?) I was praying that there wouldn't be a DP. Nomar battled (I thought he was going to strike out because Lidge blew a 96 MPH pitch by him). IMO, Lidge has not been the same since late last year when the Cubs helped him to a blown save. It's still very early, but Lidge does not look like the dominant closer we saw in the second half of 2004 and for most of 2005. There has been some speculation that the Pujols HR damaged his psyche. Until he puts together a month or two of strong closing, there will continue to be specualtion. He has given up 3 HR, but that isn't that disturbing. What would be disturbing to me is the walks, 7 in 10 2/3 innings. He has a 1.69 WHIP so far, though it is still very early.
  9. I wish he could find a rod of +2 intelligence. Can I just say that this was incredible? And yes...I got it too. And part of me is with XZero - I should have no shame. But then . . . I do, whether I want to or not. Like tightly rolled pantlegs, mullets and hair bands, D&D is far enough in my past that it is more amusing than shameful anymore.
  10. I agree. I would personally like to see if Pie could play rightfield if the Cubs do resign Pierre. And Pierre hasn't been awesome but he's been doing thus far than anyone last year. I would like to see Pierre bring his performance up before he is given an extension. Having said that, I would not mind seeing Pie in RF and Pierre (given he improves) in CF. How to accommodate that (trade Jones?), I don't know. I think Lee, Ramirez and Barrett provide enough raw power, provided the men aound them get on base. And if we make through Lee's absence in good shape, Hendry and Baker should recognize Walker, because unlike Neifi, he will have really saved us.
  11. He is notorious for this behavior. Totally homeristic and fairweather, bordering on outright troll-ism. And I agree, I really respect the Cards fans on this board. They are here consistently, and are generally objective and self-depricating when the situation calls for it. They don't gloat (too much, even though they could) and are generally fun to converse with.
  12. I am addicted to a ballclub that never wins too. It's painful, and I am frsutrated and angry. I think most of the others here feel the same way, but choose not to wear their misery on their sleeve. And many simply find it easier to cope if the focus on the positive, even if the positive aspects are few and far between. And I didn't say that being optimistic was more helpful, what I am saying that being pessimistic and optimistic are equal in their effect, which is really none at all. It's just how different people cope with things. And as I have said to you multiple times, there is nothing wrong with being pessimistic or "calling it as you see it". You can raze the Cubs to the ground with seething, scathing commentary, that's fine. It doesn't offend me at all. In fact, I agree with a lot of what you say. What is totally unacceptable is antagonizing people for not sharing your point of view, which you clearly do. You use "kool-aid", "genius", "I told you so", etc. comments ad nauseum, and it is insulting and offensive. You say you don't believe others are ignorant, but your statements are contrary to that. I think many here would agree that your tone is generally condescending and insulting. This is what I am talking about. I never said being pessimistic was detrimental to the team, or that optimism was the key to success. I never said or insinuated I had an answer, yet you post a snide remark suggesting I did. No one is blaming you for being angry with the Cubs and frustrated with the circumstances. But you should keep your vitriol directed at the right parties, not your fellow posters, even if they disagree with you.
  13. I wish he could find a rod of +2 intelligence. LOL! What's sad is I got that reference. You're not the only one, but I have no shame...... 8-[
  14. If this is true, I'm excited to see what this kid can do for us. I've been hearing about this kid for three friggin years - I am PSYCHED to see what he can do at the MLB level. I just hope that if he tears it up, they won't immediately ship him out for Doug Mientkewicz or some other scrub that can't help us near as good as a strong and healthy Guzman. I doubt it. Hendry has to keep an eye to the 2007 rotation with the possibility of, at least, 2/ 5 of this year's anticipated starters nolonger being with the club. The Cubs will need some quality arms. If Guzman pitches well I think he'll start for the Cubs next year. 2007: Wood Prior Maddux Zambrano Guzman  My guess is that Wood and Maddux are the two out next year although Wood has a mutual option in 2007. Zambrano and Prior are really the only locks for 2007 right now but I imagine that Marshall, Guzman, and possibly Hill will be given the opportunity to win a spot. The Cubs may also attempt to sign Miller if he pitches decently this year. I really believe Wood will be back next year.
  15. Up to 63, thanks mostly to Pujols, Thome and Gomes.
  16. Gonna come back if the Astros don't make the playoffs? If Roger doesn't come back, we'll have seen the last of him. Heck, we might not see him after the Cards take first place from them.
  17. Tony is a baby. This isn't the first time he has said/insinuatied the Cubs were cheating. I just don't think the man's ego will let him take a loss to the Cubs without their integrity into question. Headhunting, stealing signs, doctoring the balls...it's always the something with him. It's actually pretty juvenile, IMO. And Tony is smart enough to know he isn't going to get in Maddux's head. A young or hot headed pitcher maybe, but not Mad Dog. I think the ball checking today was his latest blatant effort to imply that the Cubs are dirty.
  18. Honestly, if you want to be an uber-pessimist, that's fine. But you don't have to preach it like the gospel. We can all see what is going on, and don't need people exacerbating our existing frustration. If you want to vent, that's fine. But the "I told you so" BS is really annoying. Sorry to have annoyed you. I will cut the "I told you so" B.S. immediately. It *definitely* seems like some people on this board won't accept any criticism of the Cubs whatsoever no matter what happens. Not singling anyone out----just seems that way. And that's fine too. But there needs to be some balance to the discussion when catastrophies like Wood & Prior or Lee happen. These are crushing blows. CRUSHING. Some like to ignore them and move on. I don't. And I don't see how either view should be attacked. Seems like people who try to say "things are not good" around here get attacked and labeled. I think that's completely unfair, especially in our current situation. Just because everyone isn't dwelling on the problems doesn't mean we aren't all acutely aware of ther severity of the situation. Hand wringing, Chicken Littling and moaning isn't going to help matters anymore than being too optimistic. If you want to be pessimistic (and the reality probably lies between where you are and where the kool-aid drinkers are), that's fine. But you seem to be on a crusade to put everyone in the same mindset you are. The situation is really bad, and nearly all of us realize it fully. You aren't a voice of reason enlightening the blissfully ignorant, you are behaving like child running around saying "nah-nah, told you so!", and it's incredibly lame. We all see the same stuff you do, but not everyone chooses to let it effect them the same way you do. I'd bet that 95% of the people here aren't in denial, but just choose not to allow the circumstances to make them completely miserable. At least not outwardly. If the fact that not everyone here isn't pissing and moaning like you are bothers you so much, you have bigger problems than the Cubs. Maybe it's a misery loves company thing, I don't know. If you want to moan, then moan. That's fine. But don't label people ignorant just because they don't behave like you.
  19. Yeah but it's a fat duel so we have a chance. Ah, a Sumo match. with more clothing plz Ugh, I hadn't even considered the lack of clothing. Now I'm nauseated.
  20. Yeah but it's a fat duel so we have a chance. Ah, a Sumo match.
  21. Then Zambrano had a massive heart attack and fell on Ramirez, breaking ARam's legs. Then splinters of ARam's bones fly through Barret's eye sockets and into his brain.
  22. Honestly, if you want to be an uber-pessimist, that's fine. But you don't have to preach it like the gospel. We can all see what is going on, and don't need people exacerbating our existing frustration. If you want to vent, that's fine. But the "I told you so" BS is really annoying.
