  1. I really don't know why anyone listens to sports radio, it's 99.9% hot garbage.
  2. Yeah, and I don't think Maddon becoming available (something that was at least in large part a byproduct of Friedman leaving TB) was something that they would have counted on. I don't see this as indicative of a lack of faith in Renteria, just that they unexpectedly had the opportunity to get the very best guy for the job.
  3. I don't really want Peavy, but I'm not opposed to him, either. If signing him increases our chances with Lester, I'd be fine with it.
  4. Ugh, terrible. Not much else to say.
  5. joe buck? ahahahahahaha That's precious. And just when I thought they couldn't get any further detached from reality. There's some similarly oblivious ranting going on at GRB.
  6. It is. One of my first thoughts on seeing the pics was that the 2006 bleacher expansion was money wasted. Though I have no idea if the revenue from the added seats already recouped the cost of that renovation.
  7. I'm no engineer, but I would think that creating space under the bleachers and preparing them to take on the additional stresses that coming from supporting the new signage (the big board especially) would require some sections to be completely re-constructed. I'm really not surprised to big chunks being taken out.
  8. yeah, they're already digging the hole in the triangle lot for the clubhouse. they even hope to have it mostly done by the end of next season...or done enough to show it to the players. not ready til 2016 though. only thing going on inside bleachers as far as i know is the bullpens going there after next season. Well, I was lumping the bullpens into "player facilities", I guess. And where are they going to put the batting cages? Also, isn't there some kind of walkway/corridor for fans that will run under the bleachers, on the street side? http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd358/Cloudstrife219/chi_wrigley_bleachers_jv_600x600_zps30fbaaac.jpg
  9. the irony is so far they're really mainly leveling one of the newest parts of the park I know. I feel like I could be looking at pictures from 2006. How is the infrastructure from the main stands being "modernized" from this rennovation? I doing remember seeing anything about them tearing up the grandstands and fixing structural issues, but I could be mistaken. They are adding new player facilities under the bleachers, no? I wouldn't be surprised if they need to re-structure a few things under there if that is the case.
  10. Pneumonia and lung cancer would be a pretty dire combination, I would think.
  11. So would I, but I'm incredulous that even that dipstick Colletti would make that trade.
  12. hopefully someday the cubs get a clutch power hitter instead of that scrub No kidding. That bum only hit meaningless homers.
  13. He also loses a ton of value if he keeps doing what he does at the plate And he'd lose even more if he were doing it as an outfielder.
  14. he could be derrick rose and i'll take the 5 win 24 year old For sure, but it'd be nice if he didn't do so many bone headed things on the field. And I wonder if him tailing off as the season goes on the past couple years is just a youth issue, or if it's going to be a thing for him. Rizzo did a lot of boneheaded things this year too, should we trade him? What are you on about? I wasn't arguing against potentially acquiring him, and I don't understand why the Dodgers would trade him, either. But the stuff Puig does is far worse than what Rizzo has done. Some of it has been pretty amazing, actually. But again, his huge talent eclipses his gaffes.
  15. he could be derrick rose and i'll take the 5 win 24 year old For sure, but it'd be nice if he didn't do so many bone headed things on the field. And I wonder if him tailing off as the season goes on the past couple years is just a youth issue, or if it's going to be a thing for him.
  16. I have less of an issue with Puig's "abrasive" behavior than I do with the fact that he's stupid. And I don't think it's "young and dumb" so much as stupid stupid. I don't think he's going to outgrow it. Be he's so talented it doesn't matter all that much.
  17. They've got Corey Seager coming up at SS. Frankly, I'd think they'd be more in the market for a third baseman, but if they'd take Castro as the main piece, you have to do that. But I don't think they would. There is a logjam in the OF, especially with Pederson in the picture, but there are a couple of better options to move. But then again, Colletti is a moron, so who knows.
  18. Yeah, it's not just Bryant vs. Valbuena et al., it's Bryant vs. whoever he'd be replacing in LF. If Valbuena at third base and Bryant in left field gives you more wins than Bryant at third, whoever in LF and Valbuena on the bench, then you move him.
  19. Poor Billy Beane, he just can't win. That said, good for the Royals.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if he does, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. I really can't recall having as little feel for how a player is going to turn out, ever.
  21. Fortunately or unfortunately, we found out that at this exact moment, he's worse than we hoped. Hoped, or expected? What he did was about what I expected that he'd do, and I think most reasonable people expected him to struggle. He might have struck out at a rate a few percentage points higher than I would have thought, but it wasn't as if his performance was some kind of sobering epiphany. Given that his "adjustment periods" have gotten a bit longer with each promotion, I don't think it's unreasonable to think there's a decent chance that the pattern will hold, and he will find his footing early next year.
  22. Let's see what Merriam-Webster say: This seems to open up a lot of possible interpretations.
  23. Living in St. Louis will make anything and everything about a person's life worse.
  24. I'm riding high on last offseason's "Kyle shut up, Junior Lake's not going to be that terrible, line drive percentage means everything!" success. there was a Junior Lake is not going to be terrible crowd? I'm pretty sure it consisted of sneakypower
