  1. Well there's that, for sure. Unless the case being made is that the Cubs should just offer whatever it takes.
  2. off the top of my head the Dodgers could have him in a second. The Cubs could blow away any Dodgers offer. Not if they are scoffing at the notion of trading away prospects when there are all these free agents we can get with just money. If the Phillies know the Cubs are interested, they're probably not going to trade Hamels away until they've talked to Theo/Jed. The point is that Hamels isn't just going to disappear from the list of options while the FO is pursuing free agents. There is nothing wrong with looking at free agent options first, especially when the league knows the Cubs are looking for SP, and that they have most to offer. The trade options will be there regardless, if the FO is amenable to them.

  4. Half the point of stockpiling all the young cheap bats is so they can risk that money. Anybody viewing a big contract to a pitcher as anything but awesome is crazypants. totally Well, that depends on the pitcher and the contract, but I generally agree. There are limits, though. I don't care how much free money you have, giving 7+ year deals to guys who already 32+ is just stupid. Lester and Scherzer are just young enough to make it palatable.
  5. For sure. I'm not saying the Cubs will sign Lester, but I am as optimistic about the possibility as I have been about any potential big FA signing that I can remember.
  6. I have a really irrational dislike for Schlitter. Well, not so much him, but the fact he's on the team, and that he seems to be one of RR's go-to guys.
  7. I really think they're going to make an earnest run at Lester, especially since he's been traded.
  8. Lester/Arrieta/Hendricks/Turner/Wood (or Jackson)
  9. Yeah, no doubt the only way Amaro deals Hamels is if he sees it as a way to kickstart a rebuild/reload process, so he'll ask for more than the FO will want to give up, I fear. I'll be absolutely stunned if anything comes of this.
  10. Way too long to wait to get the bullpen up.
  11. So they don't sign anyone good this offseason? Weird. The problems with that are: 1) They could still sign someone. Screw the first-round pick. 2) Several of the players they might want to sign won't be pick-tied. 3) They probably weren't going to sign anyone anyway. 4) Worth it to not have to hear "we lost 90+ games, there's no point in trying next year, we're too far away!" Having a protected pick and our pick of free agents is more valuable than you getting annoyed at #4. I would think Kyle would choose the situation where the Cubs didn't have a ready made excuse for not spending in FA to improve the team for next year. I don't think they feel that they need excuses. Moreover, I feel like the Baez promotion is a clear sign they're looking at next year much differently than they have the previous couple regardless of how 2014 turns out. People might say what Kyle is talking about in #4, but not the ones who matter.
  12. no doubt in my mind kap came up with that list For those on mobile, can you explain? sosa isn't listed. kerry wood is. For favorite Cub? Greatest Cub of all time.
  13. You're calling her Javy, right? Javiera.
  14. javy avs for everyone Sure, why not.
  15. I'm going to be passing through Denver tomorrow night, but I won't have time to stop. Likely I'll pass by Coors not long before the game. :(
  16. ??? He broke his leg badly in a game tonight. It was disgusting.
  17. Heh. I read this and at first thought he threw his bat at another third baseman. Same here.
  18. I've never seen anyone do this. It sounds disgusting.
  19. Maybe I'm missing something, but where are they going to play him?
  20. He's referencing an argument from both PSD and BN lately, where I explained that common usage has made irregardless and "I could care less" correct due to decades of use. Ah, I see. I don't read the comments at BN, and I avoid PSD, so I am largely oblivious. Once I re-read his post and saw the "irregardless", I figured something was up. The "I could care less" is such a peeve that I just fixated on it.
  21. WOOOOOOSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Yeah, I didn't even notice the irregardless. My bad.
  22. Looks like the Sox are going to land top 100 spec Eduardo Rodriguez for Andrew Miller. ERod has had a really bad season, but it's a worthwhile gamble. No, just no. They are PROSPECTS. Not specs. Keep that stupid [expletive] at PSD. This a million times. That crap is bad enough there, it's not spreading anywhere else. I would live with a thousand bad hashtags like #sparkle before I'd let "specs" take over. sorry brah. common usage. you will soon have to accept it, irregardless. i could care less if you think otherwise. I don't think it's so common that we should all just accept it as being part of baseball vernacular. It sounds stupid, and it should die in a fire. Also, it's "I couldn't care less". Unless you actually care what Kyle thinks, and I am assuming that you do not.
  23. When did that happen? Since the scoring environment took a plunge. It was .900 before. Now it's .800 It hasn't stopped trending downward.
