  1. Yeah, too premature. If I was superstitious I'd say it was bad juju.
  2. My fear has been that Theo could be using the Cubs to leverage a promotion/extension from the Sox. However, it seems Epstein and Lucchino have been at odds, and Henry and Lucchino seem close, so I'm not sure how likely that is. Either way, we're either on the brink of something awesome, or being set up for a doozy of a gut punch.
  3. :yahoo: Well that sounds promising.
  4. He's a Chicago sports guy who apparently doesn't know anything if he thinks the payroll is 100M I don't think he's saying that he said it is currently $100M, but that it's supposed to stay at $100M henceforth. Hope not. that would also mean never being in the mix for any top free agent, which would mean literally waiting years for players to develop in order to field a competitive team. ricketts knows he needs to compete NOW and that we are no longer willing to wait. fans have already started to desert. seriously half the fans will leave and the other half will hate him with a passion. i'm really not in the mood to wait until this system starts producing great players, i will give up the game. Given the state of some of your other teams, cultivating some patience may be in order. Anyway, I am highly skeptical of the idea the payroll is going to take a significant hit.
  5. True, but the only reason was Cutler. Yeah, you really can't say enough about Cutler's performance. I've never seen a QB as under siege in my life. Just watching it made me want to punch Angelo.
  6. And if he managed a WS win, he'd get a free pass for life. Maybe a street named after him and a monument to his glory, too.
  7. Thinking about things critically, I'm confident he will come, but the Cubs fan in me is saying this is all an elaborate tease.
  8. Jay Cutler is a goddamned hero for doing what he did with zero protection. I don't watch as much football as some, but I've never seen an O-line so horrendously ineffective in my life. It's like they weren't even there. It's amazing Cutler wasn't killed, much less performed the way he did. Last night was the perfect illustration of Angelo's incompetence. It's like spending big money on a skilled contractor to build your house, but only providing him with the worst materials to work with. Jay isn't perfect, but we haven't had any kind of chance to see what he can really do, and that's a real shame. Jerry Angelo should be run out of town by a mob, and anyone pointing at Jay as a primary problem should be punched in the face.
  9. This wait is really just the worst. I've spent more time than I'd like to admit over the past few days scrutinizing this thread. Certainly more than the Roberts and Peavy threads combined.
  10. THE SOSA HOME RUN OFF THE CAMERA SHACK??? THE AWESOME BLOWOUT IN GAME TWO SPOILED ONLY BY DUSTY LEAVING IN PRIOR FOR LIKE 200 PITCHES? ARAMIS'S INSANELY HIGH ALMOST FOUL GRAND SLAM WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? KERRY WOOD [expletive] TYING THE GAME WITH A [expletive] HOME RUN The Marlins pitcher falling and throwing a pitch into the first-base dugout. It was Willis, and I don't even think he fell, I think it just flew out of his hand. Wasn't that Michael Tejera?
  11. I watched every pitch of that entire series, and remember virtually all of it. Really, that series (and moreover the season) are the defining events for this generation of Cubs fans and perhaps what will be looked back on as one of, if not the most pivotal points in the franchise's history. Unless a Cubs fan simply wasn't that into baseball then or was too young, I can't conceive of not remembering all or at least most of it.
  12. Yeah, and Ron Washington has made one of the worst sequences of managerial decisions I have seen in a long time. 1.Taking Ogando out 2.Having Feliz give an IBB to load the bases right after bringing him in 3.Not pinch running for Beltre The first two didn't come back to bite him (yet), but the third is looking awfully big right now.
  13. Inconceivable. Kill it. Kill it with fire.
  14. Yeah but that was because people hate ARod. He's only in the past couple years getting respect in the NY press. Plus he was opting out of his 250+ million contract to get 300+ million instead...I don't think there'd be that kind of flak for the Cubs hiring one of the game's best GMs. I dont remember any "flak" AROD took for signing when he signed, but I do remember people not liking him because of his playoff chokes and his huge contracts. No, he took some heat for announcing his new contract during the series.
  15. I don't know, Prince is all right. And when you think about how they bled their once vaunted farm system dry in the pursuit of what ultimately will only be a wild card and one division title, it helps. And that Prince is leaving and this is their one shot to make anything substantive out of all that talent that came up in 2007-08, which will (hopefully) end at the hands of the Phillies, that helps too. Two or three years from now Miller Park will be half full of fans whose only reason for coming out is to see Ryan Braun hit and hot dog. Two or three years from now the Cardinals will still be tormenting us in some capacity. Basically, Milwaukee is going to go away, St. Louis isn't. They never do.
  16. Extra points for K'ing ARod to end it.
  17. I actually like Brian Anderson.
  18. The choice is pretty clear. One hated player or a hated team, fanbase and media agenda. The AL East not making it out of the ALDS would be glorious.
  19. I hate you Valverde, but I'll hate you a little less if you get this done.
  20. Rosenbloom is a boil on the butt of humanity.
  21. I could see the Cubs giving the Sox a fringe prospect and taking back John Lackey as compensation. Or just sending cash instead of taking back a bad contract. In any event, I think this talk about having to sacrifice our top talent for the right to sign Epstein is just alarmist goofiness.
  22. Wizards and Dragons Hatfields and McCoys Hicks and Hayseeds Rubes and Yokels Boors and Bumpkins I could do this all day
  23. I would be thrilled with Theo Epstein, but would be ecstatic with Friedman. Theo has done very, very well, but with an enormous payroll. I prefer a guy who has consistently maximized on the performance/resources front. My wish list (Among rumored candidates) in order of preference is: 1.Friedman 2.Epstein 3.Cherington 4.Hahn
  24. That La Russa probably cost his team by not pulling his starters at the appropriate time. The award is not given out for playing on a winning team in a more difficult division. Pujols was the most valuable player that year and it wasn't a particularly close call between him and Howard. Everyone with any sense knew Pujols deserved the award, but to come out and whine like girl about it is lame. The Cards are nefarious whiners. I blame LaRussa, as he really leads the way in that department.
  25. That's because 95% of people who listen to and call into sports talk radio shows are morons. Particularly on the day after, when knee-jerk stupidity is at its highest level. But hey, if they want to run Theo out of town, we'll take him.
