  1. After some deliberation, I added the sports pack to my DTV package last night, just so I could be sure I could see/DVR it. And it had to be in HD so I could see Theo in all his glory.
  2. The more I hear TLR talk about last night, the dumber and more desperate to shift blame he looks. It's kind of pathetic.
  3. I was thinking something more on the lines of "OMG, he is such a dreamboat. I can't believe he's all mine."
  4. Tom Ricketts in this picture represents the entire fanbase, at least on this board. Pretty much. I was grinning like an idiot the whole time. Not even the sight/sound of Kaplan could wipe it off of my face.
  5. This. There have been a couple times I thought he was going to strangle Harold Reynolds, like when Harold went Dusty on him and said OBP was overrated because too many guys getting on base clogged them up. You can tell the guy wants to go all analytic, but can't without sending all the meatheads around him into a lather. That said, I'm sure there are at least a couple of former players smart enough to fit the bill for that kind of show.
  6. Bastard. Wood/Prior/Zambrano/Clement/Maddux That was (would have been) a disgusting rotation, easily on par with the 2011 Phillies, imo. Had the whole thing not gone to hell in a handbasket. But that's why they play the games, I guess.
  7. I usually say that after their first win of the year.
  8. I was pretty focused on winning the WS that year, at least early on. Then [expletive] started to go really wrong and dimmed the my long term view quite a bit.
  9. Late in the 2003-04 offseason was the most optimistic I've been about an individual Cubs team's potential to win. Right now is the most optimistic I've ever been about the direction of the the franchise.
  10. Someone's a bitter old coot.
  11. I don't quite understand why some people have said a playoff run would increase the chances of Pujols staying in STL. A WS title and big series from Albert would increase the chances of him leaving, IMO. Big performance, not leaving on a bad note, no "unfinished business", etc. If one of the big market teams decides they like what they're seeing and want him, the Cardinals will lose him.
  12. How can they even argue its a lateral move? President of baseball ops is a clear step up from GM. Answered to Luccino, now answers to ownership. How is there anything lateral about that? LOL, you missed that part of the thread, I see. You're lucky.
  13. But he said that in regard to the team's young core. Danks is arbitration eligible and I don't think he falls into the "core" category.
  14. How about signing Wilson and trading for Danks? A Wilson/Garza/Dempster/Danks/Cashner or Wells rotation wouldn't be too shabby. That said, I think Wilson probably ends up with the Yankees.
  15. I checked back at this post a couple nights ago... I'm pretty pleased with myself. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58414&p=2514036&hilit=+Maybe+I%27m+crazy+#p2514036 check dew's response to my post a few posts up. I think what many of us were realistically (seemingly, prior to last week) hoping for with regard to Ricketts' Red Sox infatuation was a hire of one of Epstein's understudies/cohorts. To hire Epstein and a big chunk of his entourage is simply spectacular, and not something any of us would have actually anticipated. And given that as recently as August, the spectre of Hendry serving out the entirety of his contract was hanging over us, this turn of events is just surreal.
  16. Hawk4Hall was constantly going on about Ricketts. JeffH, too. J.R. was on about the safari and the Toyota sign quite a bit, iirc. i don't think hawk4hall was involved too much. j.r. was definitely the lead complainer about the safari. jeffh just complains about everything, and since he apparently thought hendry was the anti-Christ, it's not surprising that he got mad at ricketts when hendry was retained last offseason. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=57738 Hawk4Hall wasn't one of the safari mob, but he was one of the most prominent Ricketts bashers this past season.
  17. Boy, that'd really chap Ryno's ass, wouldn't it?
  18. I said he doesn't put a premium on them, not that he didn't care about them. I'd be willing to bet grit and hustle wouldn't be near the top of Theo Epstein's desirable player attributes list.
  19. I still think it's going to be hilarious when Kaplan realizes just what Theo & Co. are all about. He probably gets a stiffy thinking about Dustin Pedroia, Youk, the Eckstein thing and the rings, but doesn't really understand the method. When he realizes Theo doesn't give a [expletive] about grit and doesn't place a premium on hustle, his head is going to explode (or implode). He'll probably feel bamboozled. Violated, even. It's also amazing how thin his skin is.
  20. Hawk4Hall was constantly going on about Ricketts. JeffH, too. J.R. was on about the safari and the Toyota sign quite a bit, iirc. You've been waiting for this call out for a while haven't you? No, I just have a really good memory. But given the circumstances, I don't mind pointing some people out.
  21. Hawk4Hall was constantly going on about Ricketts. JeffH, too. J.R. was on about the safari and the Toyota sign quite a bit, iirc.
  22. Jack Z. was a rising star a couple years ago, but he has largely fizzled in Seattle.
  23. And somehow Rosenbloom will spin this into Ricketts being a starry-eyed neophyte fumbling around in naivete. Really, any people who have trashed on Tom Ricketts for not doing enough are due to eat a titanic helping of crow. Can you imagine now if he had canned Jimbo months ago (like many wanted) and hired whoever was available? We sure wouldn't have the top three FO we're looking at now.
  24. Basically maintain order, make the obvious choices, and let the players sort the rest out on the field.
