  1. WELL NO [expletive] I POSTED THIS 45 PAGES AGO You can't expect the man to read, yeesh. Which brings me to a question: how many here have actually read every page in all the Theo threads? It's embarrassing to say, but I have. I blame Henry/Lucchino. Guilty. I also need to clean out all of the Boston jackasses I've been following on Twitter for Theo news. :yahoo: Every day since the announcement that Theo had agreed to a deal, I've had to explain to my wife why I was getting out of bed early each morning. I just told her I was having trouble sleeping, because the truth (I was going straight to the computer and coming here and to Twitter for Theo news) was simply too pathetic.
  2. You can back a long ways on this board and find people saying how overstated the impact of field managers is. Unfortunately, many here are a bit sensitive since we had one of the apocalyptically bad ones for four years here. Also, if you have a really, really good roster, there is less the manager can screw up. Few people want to see a guy like Sandberg as manager, but if you have a really good GM (or 2-3 like we are going to have), it mitigates the damage.
  3. Joe Maddon, if I had to pick one.

  5. I wonder how SoSH feels about this...
  6. I still think this is the biggest moment for the Cubs in any of our lifetimes That's what I've been saying. And I really don't think any two of our prospects will/would have the impact on this franchise that a team of Epstein/Hoyer will have. After the crap we've had in the font office...this is really a momentous occasion.
  7. This fiasco might actually have me rooting for the Yankees when they play the Sox.
  8. if we were close and now we aren't, it means the RedSox balked. I'm thinking that they had a deal in place and then when Henry saw it he said no, go back to the table and wrangle more out of them. No, "the reports were premature" means the deal wasn't actually close.
  9. The Red Sox are going to come out of this offseason smelling like a rose. If they think being obstinate here is going to recoup some of the luster lost in recent weeks, they're insane. That franchise is beginning to look like real joke, and that's coming from a Cubs fan. Can you imagine if they make Theo sit around on his thumbs for a year just because they can, and then ever need something from the Cubs after Theo becomes prez? I'be really curious to hear some thoughts from around the league on this, but I'd bet this is having a negative impact on the perception of how the Sox do business.
  10. Me too. Do you think he's intimately involved in the negotiations at this point? I imagine it's really important to the Ricketts that he approves the talent that's leaving in order for him to come. Maybe Epstein himself is the huge sticking point, as the attractiveness of the job goes significantly down if lose our #2 prospect. Doubtful. I would think Theo having any part in the negotiation would represent a huge conflict of interest.
  11. He always has been. It's just his opinions that are worthless. and his stupid face That most of all. I'm sure he'll demand we all credit @thekapman for Theo coming to Chicago.
  12. He always has been. It's just his opinions that are worthless.
  13. The Trib just posted a Rogers blurb saying the sides are no closer to an agreement and Commish might have to step in. Someone(s) is going to look pretty stupid tomorrow.
  14. Pretty sure he broke the Harden trade too. Indeed. He was all over the Harden trade weeks before it happened. His sources are usually spot-on when it comes to the Cubs. He's very well connected. Too bad he's a slobbering buffoon.
  15. Is Theo like a son to Gammons, or does Pete think Theo is his son?
  16. My personal favorite Gammons moment was when he came on BBTN at the trade deadline in 2004 and categorically said Nomar was not going to be traded, less than an hour before it was announced that he was. my favorite was when he went on espnnews and said that nomar was going nowhere 5 min after the deadline, just as the cubs/red sox trade news came across the of the screen I think that is what I was remembering there. Regardless, Ol' Pete's track record for predictions and factual reporting is not so hot.

  18. It really is. Theo coming in and bringing in a brain trust with him to help him overhaul the organization and institute a real philosophy and institutional approach is probably the most significant (positive) event in most of our lives as Cubs fans. Unless you look at is as a continuation of what was started when Ricketts bought the team, in which case that purchase was the most significant event. Either way, this is really exciting. Really, who would have imagined this the day before Hendry was canned?

  20. Then don't read them, it's for the best. Didn't he say hiring Theo was stupid like 2 hours ago? It's sad when at least half of the people on this site are smarter than and write better than paid journalists. I have to believe Rosenbloom is playing the role of a journalistic heel and sensationalist. He's just awful at even that. Of course he could just be that bad.
  21. Good, a little BearClaw is just what we need to bring sanity to this thread.
  22. Then don't read them, it's for the best.
  23. That I cannot disagree with at all... Friedman is actually my first choice. I'm just buying into the argument he is not a viable option, and that things are too far gone WRT Theo. We're gonna end up giving more than many here want, methinks. Until he gives me reason to believe otherwise, I'm going to give Ricketts the benefit of the doubt. I'm expecting good things from his negotiating ability. This isn't really going out on a limb, but I think the Cubs will give up more than they and we like and Boston will get less than they and their fans want. There's going to be some hand wringing on both sides, I think.
  24. If the Red Sox get anything more than a mediocre A-ball pitcher, they should be happy. It will be more than a mediocre A-Ball pitcher...I think that has been established already. If there is precedent to cite, the MacPhail signing should be it. At the time, he was regarded as highly as Epstein is now, iirc. Obviously it will be more than a mediocre a-baller, but it serves to illustrate how unrealistic and ridiculous asking for multiple top 10 prospects would be.
