  1. Dixon is hurt. I missed the injury itself. Is that Ryan Leaf's little brother? It looks just like him, wow. He's not looking real good. Oregon is in serious, serious trouble now.
  2. Yeah, nevermind that Oregon thing. Tough break, pun intended. There's still time. It's interesting to watch yet another team climb the standings and then struggle though. Been happening all year long. I love this CFB season.
  3. Are you refusing to acknowledge we just traded for Omar Infante, or did you just forget? :D You just ruined days of careful memory suppression. Thanks!
  4. Me no likey his home/away splits!! Home .330 .381 .482 .864 Away .249 .304 .333 .638 Good GOD Hendry's going to have his way and send us down to hell!
  5. Does Boras still get his usual amount?
  6. Exactly. +1 Actually though, I do enjoy some of the quips. Some of you are really, really good at being smart-asses. I mean that in a good way.
  7. You lie, I clearly remember you picking him 1st. Nice try at the smokescreen. Ok, I kid. Nice job.
  8. A-Rod approached the Yanks without Boras. The Yanks can not talk money to a player without his agent present, per the CBA. Boras is involved, but only as an advisor. Don't feel sorry for Boras, he will still get his money. The deal bounces around 10/220 to 10/290, depending on who reports it. I also heard 10/260. So I will wait for the press conference to pass judgement. But here are my options, 10/220-235 Hank wins, 10/250 push 10/260-290 Hank is an ass. Yeah I still think anything over @25mil/yr for a very long time like 10 years is just like chaining a 200lb anvil to your neck. It was a bad idea when Texas did it, so ARod had to go to the only place who could pay it, and even then they had help from Texas. Then after he gets there, the money is so damn high even a mini slump is treated like the World Trade Center just got bombed again. So ARod has to deal with pressure so ungodly strong nobody can deal. Playoffs come, he wilts, and the fans just freak out even more. This is just too much money, for too long of a period of time, for a 32-year-old baseball player. Get me under $25mil/yr for fewer years and it's worth hoping the Cubs jump. As it stands, I hope he goes back to the Yanks.
  9. I agree the whole "timing of the loss" factor is just complete B.S. The games need to count for exactly the same no matter when they are played. If they want to use a couple tomato cans as their openers, then that's their choice. Either those games count for the same, or they should designate them as scrimmages or preseason games and play them outside the normal schedule. Saying they don't count the same because the teams weren't ready is B.S. Saying they don't count the same because they were eariler is B.S. Bottom line, Michigan had climbed all the way back to 12 by the time they lost to Wisconsin. No way in hell would they have been that high if they lost to App State and Oregon in back-to-back weeks later in the year. There's just simply no damn way. This system is just hopelessly broken. It's no wonder you see signs like NoBCS.net all over the place every week. Nobody likes this. To hell with the money makers, they need to live up to their responsibilities and provide a framework that actually works first. Worry about your profits after. /rant
  10. I think Pie, Murton, Theriot, Infante and Soto are a bit optimistic, but the rest seem about right to me. OK, no disagreement here. If we get that kind of production from those guys though, sheesh I would be doing backflips.
  11. If we put up those kind of offensive numbers, we'll be much much better than expected. I also think those are pretty optimistic predictions.
  12. Yes, and live on SportCenter @ 5pm, Manny takes a dump.
  13. We've shed some players who probably would have sucked next year anyway. Isn't that kind of the objective? Well, the first part of it anyway.
  14. I think I would need independent confirmation before I would take this as sacro-sanct.
  15. Tulo WARP3: 10.8 Braun WARP3: 4.8 that was easy. I'm pretty sure very few of the voters look at that, but point taken.
  16. In that case, the voting should have been fairly close. Since it wasn't, I'm wondering what the overriding factor was that made CC garner so many more votes. I agree based on the reg season CC was a solid choice.
  17. None of those are exactly new though. Jones has had 1 foot out the door for a whole year now. Veal possibly going to the bullpen has been around for several months, and Cedeno was practicing in the OF during spring training. It's not like these are huge surprises. All of them have been hinted at or publicly stated for a long time now. The plan is almost certainly flawed, but there has been a consistent plan with each of those moves. Maybe Hendry should just make it up as he goes along then. His plan sucks.
  18. Well no, I don't expect him to say that either. That would be a little extreme. I didn't think lowering fan expectations is a good thing. Are you saying it's good for Hendry to head off the booing because we're sure to suck? Why are we apparently not considering real improvements at the position? Maybe Jim should just come clean and tell us he can't get any money for improvements right now, so he'll do the best he can but don't expect too much in '08. That's the underlying message I'm getting, wouldn't you agree that's the way it's shaping up?
  19. awesome. Hehe. What, you don't think the flatlands and the rows of corn conjure up visions of power & glory?
  20. ...I think you're missing the point, especially with that Howard-Francoeur comment. No one is saying Tulowitzski should've won because his defense is better; his defense relative to Braun's is just ridiculously better -- vastly better than the difference between the offensive talents of the two. Yes, but again, you are now comparing the difference between the two, and again, the spread between defensive capabilities does not count for as much as the spread between offense. And Braun's offense was just bombastically good. I wouldn't have considered it an outrage if Tulo would have won. Actually I could probably go either way and be fine with it. I just don't think it's anywhere near an outrage that Braun took it home, that's all.
  21. Cubs '08: back to the tank. Bravo Hendry =D>
  22. Maybe the Trib will give him enough power to make that one big deal, in RF as you say. It might be the only improvement we make this offseason. I fear for '08. But then again, I think we saw this coming.
  23. Between this, moving Dempster to the starting rotation in November (a move that just screams "we will do nothing to improve the rotation"), and then announcing that Pie/Fuld will be CF and the position will be viewed as a "defense" position (something where I thought maybe the Cubs might, you know, still want to develop Pie as a hitter a little bit??). I mean come on. Is anybody watching this stuff? This guy is resigning us to the tank in '08.
  24. He sounded more like a guy who isn't really trying to improve the team, and doesn't intend to start trying any time soon to me. He's talking about leaving Pie & Fuld in CF and resigining the position to defense only, then he's talking about having Cedeno ready to play outfield which is moronic and would get us nowhere. This is a man who probably has been told he can do nothing this offseason. Either that or he's got the juice for one big deal but nothing else. He's throwing players into positions they've never played and resiging Pie to "defensive player" status, something I thought the Cubs weren't resigned to yet. This is ridiculous. In other words, par for the course.
  25. Seriously, the words that are coming from Hendry lately are truly frightening. I know it's early, but is he consciously making an effort to destroy our season in '08?
