  1. I'm not sure where that point is. Because brokers still buy up the face value tix by the hundreds of thousands, and then make a nice profit selling them again for much, much more.
  2. I don't like the idea of becoming some other team's rehab facility.
  3. But that sounds like good news for the Packers =D> Clue me in then. Under Murphy, Northwestern's big sports (Football and Basketball) have languished. They still aren't competitive in the Big 10 really at all, and there doesn't seem to be much of chance that they will be. So what makes him a good choice to run the Packers?
  4. I'm not sure where that opinion comes from. There's never been any evidence at all that Mark used steroids.

They've been showing his idiotic toss back to halfcourt on the fastbreak all evening on CSN. I mean come on Kirk, Noah's 25 feet behind you. You're gonna "dish" it back to halfcourt so he can run all the way down and get a dunk? He just doesn't think sometimes.
  6. It's in his ESPN stats. Here are the numbers: 2004: 3.97 2005: 3.69 2006 (with Mets): 3.96 2006 (with Col): 4.04 2007: 4.02 Those numbers are surprising to me. That's well above average in P/PA, and yet he has an average to below average walk rate. What are his "fouled off pitches per plate appearance" numbers? I haven't watched a ton of Matsui ABs in my life, but maybe he swings at damn near everything, but just fouls most of it off. ....and finally grounds weakly to 2nd. I hope this isn't true.
  7. CSN picked up on the Olney claim, stated last night that Prior is available for trade.

The Bulls finally found the one NBA team that is more pathetic than they are. Quick, schedule about 15 more games with the Hawks, it's our only chance
  9. Don't worry, the title will change if the Cubs sign him so you'll be able to commit suicide long before getting this far
  10. So he's like Adam Archuleta but with a bit more flab. I'm not saying I wouldn't have a beer with the guy. Just keep him off my 25 man, that's all. Good luck to him.
  11. I think we're still short on details with this thing, so I'm just going to wait to see how it shakes out. I'd like Prior back for reasonable money for many of the same reasons others have listed, but I'm likewise torn between not wanting to pay him tons of cash to sit on the DL and not wanting to watch him return to form with another club.
  12. Well according to the report of the deals offered this time, ours was the best. So, no. Exactly. I'm really not understanding all of this "he gave us a discount stuff". From all the reports I've seen we offered the best deal. I'm glad he resigned with us but I'm failing to see the big hometown discount. He did come back without too much hand-wringing, so I'll give him full props for that.

I read into the 3rd paragraph, where it became apparent he was going to use the lame-ass "Bulls always start slow" argument. Yes, they always start slow. And guess what? It always costs them seeding at the end of the year, too. Last year it pretty much cost us a trip to the Conference Finals, possibly even the Finals. This is a non-argument that shouldn't be used at all. I did skim further, and to his credit he does say later on that the Bulls have a long way to go and he's not discounting that they might not come back at all. I really just want to know when someone is going to drop the axe on this thing and start making big changes. Because it needs to be done.
  14. A little basic, but funny.
  15. Good for Wood! There's a little sunshine in an otherwise bleak offseason.
  16. I don't think the Brewers felt too good in '07, to say nothing of 3 years from now. Certainly it wasn't all Linebrink's fault, but his arrival really did nothing for them. They still blew lead after lead down the stretch.
  17. He's a veteran lefty in a world that excuses all failures when you have those attributes. He'll find work. I think it likely he'll suck, but he'll find work.
  18. Expecting North to utilize solid reasoning skills is a little like expecting a 2-year-old to grasp the finer details of Relativity.
  19. I trust that at some point the Twins will review Rolen's medical status, which will instantly reveal he's a crippled player who won't be providing anywhere near the level of production he once did. Think Bagwell after the shoulder degenerated. That's basically Rolen now.
  20. I fail to see how he's any better than Carr. He failed to sustain any level of success @ Iowa -- ultimately his coaching stint there has been a failure, they showed some signs a couple years ago but since then have really stepped back.
  21. The Jayhawks are the dog, and after all Mizzou is where the Cardinals call home. I'm rooting for Kansas. Hope against hope.
  22. That one was bad, but it wasn't monumentally bad. Not nearly as ridiculous as Rollins winning it this year, IMO. Sosa was 7th in VORP that year and a whopping 36 runs worse than McGwire. Cubs made the playoffs, Cardinals didnt? Just trying to look at it how the voters did. Obviously statistically his OBP, SLG, VORP, OPS+ were worse than Big Macs. IIRC, that was the prevailing "wisdom." Sammy had "carried" the Cubs to the playoffs and Big Mac didn't make it. Honestly, we can quote great stats all day long but I'm pretty sure very, very few of the voters look at anything beyond the basics.
  23. Heck no. Let's not foist Hendry-ism on the Hawks just when there's finally a bit of light at the end of the tunnel!
  24. I don't think most voters for these awards even look at statistics. They just vote for whoever they feel should get it. There seems to be little or no actual objective analysis that goes on.
