  1. LOL @ the George Mason pep talk. Funny stuff.
  2. Goodness no. Hill isn't going to get his curveball going down here. He's got little chance to find a rhythm, considering he's just starting out for the year and he relies on a sweeping curve that won't bite in the desert air. Hill will at least get a chance to find himself @ Wrigley before the Cubs send him down, IMO.
  3. It's funny how little chance they have to make the playoffs despite a fairly good record, while the Bulls are just a hair outside and horrible. They aren't completely comparable, because of the overtime rules, and how they prop up many records. But it's been a fun season. It's nice that they've had so many sell-outs, and are moving in the right direction. But they still need to find more offense and stabilize the defense. And Khabi is still grossly overpaid. Yeah he just doesn't take the ice enough. He's been a walking injury since he got here, like Havlat. It's really the youngsters that make this team worth the investment of time & anguish. And that's a good thing. They can build from here, if they're smart. I haven't been able to say that about the Hawks in a long time.
  4. Well, if you're Belmont, you dream of having this one chance at a miracle.
  5. Oh crap. :banghead: Duke will pull it out.
  6. Damn, Belmont too many horrible shots.
  7. Umm, Belmont is up by one! Holy crap!
  8. All of this because he's unlikely to ever steal 40 bases in a single season again. LOL. You're right. It's not just this. I'm projecting some of my other disappointments with Sori on to this recent story. Such as? Such as hitting 13 fewer HRs than he did his last year with the Nats, and 20 points lower in OBP. Such as coming up with only half the BB he did with the Nats in '06 (which would have greatly improved his OBP, of course). He missed time due to the leg injury, which clearly cut into how many HR's he would have had. Besides, expecting him to replicate the 40/40 years is like expecting Lee to replicate his 2005. We might say *now* he had a career year in '06, but certainly the Cubs didn't pay him that kind of cash because they thought, "he just had a career year, he'll drop off quite a bit now, let's hand him $136million" I cannot deny part of my disappointment is unrealistic expectations. I'm just saying, I was hoping for more, especially these first couple years. Would be nice if he upped the power output a bit for '08, that would make me feel better.

  11. Is he going to insist on batting leadoff after he's crippled, too? Just askin' I didn't realize he was insisting on batting leadoff now. Alright, are his numbers going to drop off because he's not hitting leadoff then, like they have in the past? Look, I like Soriano to a point, but it seems like you have to treat the guy with kid gloves or suddenly you aren't getting what you should out of him. He likes hitting leadoff. Then he needs to play left field or else. Then somehow he doesn't like it that Pie was sent down. Then he goes on a hot streak. Wind changes direction, now he's not hitting. I know I'm exaggerating but for the kind of money we paid this guy, I'm expecting more, not a decline. Now the guy's legs are going and we're facing 7 years of this contract? It's all fine & good to say he'll be good as long as he continues to hit. I get that. I think it's far from certain he'll continue to hit, however.
  12. He's made of fine crystal, it's confirmed.
  13. Comcast confirmed..........that it is still unconfirmed. What the hell, I thought when someone was released or put on waivers it was a public thing. When you put a player on the DL, for example -- there's no speculation about it, it's posted somewhere and everyone knows. I thought releasing a player was the same. Why is this a matter of conjecture at all?
  14. 'Bulin had a save tonight that was so sick, it's almost beyond belief. Hawks win 5-0. They won't be going to the playoffs this year but it's been a fun season nonetheless.

  16. Ugh. It's not logical, but I can't help but feel bad when I hear Z say that.
  17. This move still unconfirmed? Waiting to hear about it on Comcast, perhaps.
  18. Gee, and Baltimore fans wonder why they suck every year in and out. Until Angelos stop meddling around, Baltimore won't be a very good baseball team for awhile. Angelos is a George Steinbrenner wanna-be. They won't be good while MacPhail is seemingly running the organization. What did he do for the Cubs? 4 winning seasons and 2 playoffs appearances in 14 years. And numerous passes on free agents that would have made a difference. Commodore Sweatervest is living off a reputation for 2 World Series in Minnesota when the core of those teams was already in place when he got there. Dude, he's not running anything. He's got to clear it with Angelos before grabbing a cup of coffee, for Christ's sake. He should never have been given the job after the mess he left the Cubs in, but what's unbelievable is that Angelos has the gall to actually call him a GM. He's a notetaker for the real decision-maker, and not much more. Unfortunately for the O's, the only thing worse than hiring McFailure to GM your team is to find out that the only more incompetent person is his boss, and he's really in control.
  19. I'm having difficulty believing this thread actually exists.
  20. Dempster went: 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K The Cubs only have 4 hits on the day. 2 from Theriot (including a triple), 1 from Ramirez, and 1 from Blanco. The other Cubs highlight is that Fukudome threw out a runner at home. The offense is getting scary. Looks like the Cubs are in midseason form already. Were we facing a junkballing lefty? You over-reactor!!
  21. Imagine the meltdown on nsbb if the White Sox acquired Roberts for a couple low level prospects when we've been offering them a ton more than that for months. Hey, don't laugh. Remember the Gasol trade a few weeks ago? Hell yeah. Grizzlies got about half the value we were offering all along, and would have offered again if they had only asked.
  22. His legs are already going though and it's year 2. How much longer until the bat goes? Then the discouragement, the bad feelings........then in the tank. How many more years will be left after he collapses for good? 3? 4?
  23. He's always had a bad back. What's new about that? He fights it on and off every year.
