  1. Damn sausage pounders are going to wind up winning this thing yet.
  2. Anderson: things are going to come together, especially as the skillet gets hotter.
  3. Feels like Branyan homer here.
  4. LMAO. It's like it could have been 9-0 and the Crew were always going to come back on these bozos. I must have been dreaming because I had this crazy thought that they were in the World Series last year.
  5. Gosh, how do I put this nicely without promoting an attack or coming across as an arrogant know it all? Please don't take this the wrong way. That is what she is supposed to say to you and doesn't mean he is working on any deal nor that he will get the message. She does her job well. Pretty much what I figured as well. I think you said it quite well. Not arguing with that, but why all the vitriol over someone who called the Cubs' number? I think it's pretty cool, despite the fact that it will net nothing.
  6. I don't have much problem taking your back-of-the-rotation, younger pitchers and moving them in & out of the BP. Keeps them fresh, keeps opposing teams from having alot of tape on them. Gally was still able to gain some valuable major league experience. Now rest the arm a little and at some point maybe give us a few more starts.
  7. I agree: if you really want to laugh at posts, Dodger Blues is the place to go, not desipio.
  8. Jason has a total of 210 major league ABs. I don't see how that constitutes proof of anything. Since he's getting old though, he'll probably never get another sniff.
  9. (Can't take credit for the video) Nice. I forgot that he spit out the window after saying he would have some "speaks" with the ump after the game. LOL, think Mongo will ever be invited back?
  10. and i never said that. and it's not a meaningful analogy for the reasons i pointed out above. i've argued with lots of people about rich hill over the years, and, i have to say, you are one of the worst. and that's saying something. Awesome. Thanks for the personal attack. In kind, I take it as a compliment that one of Desipio's most oft-whipped NSBB posters doesn't like me. i wouldn't take that as a compliment. What's Desipio? Did a google search and it looks like it's just a blog to me, which is pretty different than a message board. They have a message board. Do a search for NSBB if you want to see.
  11. The McGriff acquisition in '01 is more elegant proof that it doesn't necessarily mean anything when you pull off the big move mid-season.
  12. Why? Despite the claim, there's no personal attack is abuck's message (unless it was subsequently edited and I missed something good). I figured abuck's suggestion that the other guy go to Desipio would get it done except that's not what happened. We don't often get along, but if it means anything, IMO you were only pointing out that Rothschild couldn't help Hill and it appears that someone else "lower" in the organization has been able to. That's a valid point -- it doesn't mean Larry is always going to be horrible, but in Rich's case, it appears Larry didn't have the answers (and he probably should have). The point is though that lower in the organization does not always mean inferior. While every level has to be worried about mechanics to some degree, at the major league level it can take a backseat and becomes more about how to make the pitcher be most effective to the team he's facing that day. You'd be better served by keeping your best pitcher mechanics experts down in the minors where they can help a multitude of pitchers. To achieve the best results, you'd want that guy not tied down to any one team. In the Cubs case, they have hired an excellent minor league pitching coordinator. Besides...they were always going to let Hill have a month or two of trying to get his old delivery back before they then tried to change him to something completely different. For some reason, Hill still could not find his old delivery, so they took the risk of teaching him something new and it has worked well so far. Well for the record I'm not saying crucify Larry, but it does seem weird that they would tinker around with Hill that much. I pretty much agree it's probably best to have your best mechanics guy in the minors. But if that's the case, then why did Larry insist on tinkering with Hill's delivery in the first place?

  14. That's the same night Mongo called out Angel Hernandez, correct? I'd like to see that again too :) Good video though, thanks.
  15. I think it's the fact that they're all blue. I wish they'd just do away with the red-billed road cap altogether. In 95, they were better on the road than at home, so they tried the road caps at home. Maybe they should do the opposite this year. I could go for that. I never really liked the Red-billed cap (I say this after having bought a red-billed Iowa Cubs hat last weekend, of course :))
  16. Of course. But Oakland is still in it -- would Beane trade such a piece while still in WC contention?

Where did you get that? Here's one sample thread: http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-indians&tid=42962 Sounds more like a :banghead: than a \:D/ in that particular discussion anyway.
  18. Very good point... I'll buy into the mentally strong point because they came back after a crushing loss yesterday and dispatched the Cards like so much trash -- and it's not the first time this year they've come right back after a bad loss and posted a win. Hopefully they keep it going. Finishing over .500 on the road would mean they play substantially above .500 on the road the rest of the way.
  19. He's been bad his last 14 days: .227/.306/.364 Let's see if it's just a slump before declaring that he needs to start changing things.
  20. That makes the deal CC for LaPorta and riff-raff then, correct? How is that not crazy for the Indians? I know CC is just a rental, but still. If LaPorta doesn't pan out -- and there have been plenty of AA prospects who looked good yet didn't pan out -- then the Indians could very well be looking back 3 years from now in the realization that they gave away the best player in their organization for nothing. Brantley and Green aren't riff raff, they're pretty solid prospects. They're not special though, most systems have guys just like them, which was what I was trying to get across. OK, then they might have traded a CY Young pitcher for Ryan Theriot. That's only slightly less crazy.
  21. Drives me crazy because we already do have 2 lefties in the rotation, and actually Marshall could be better than the inexplicably loved Marquis for the rest of the season. What we really could use is a solid replacement for Marquis, not a junky lefty to replace Marshall.

  23. The Cubs play 25 games in September. 9 of them are in Wrigley, for which there truly is no substitute. However, 6 more are in venues where the Cubs are extremely well represented(St. Louis, Milwaukee). And another 3 are in a nearby city(Cincinnati) that will likely be dominated by Cubs fans since they'll be in the hunt and the Reds will have nothing to play for. That leaves the Mets series and the Astros(who also will have nothing to play for) as the only true hostile environments the Cubs face that month. After the way things went down at the Cell, I can't help but think that having fans on the road or being away from Wrigley but still near by will compensate for being away from Wrigley itself. How about this weekend, when we nearly swept the Cards out of St. Louis? Or last year, where we were 10-4 in Milwaukee and St. Louis and swept at the Cell? It was a good series this weekend, blown lead on Saturday notwithstanding. Let's hope it signals a turnaround in our road play, as we're still 6 under .500 away from Wrigley. The thing about St. Louis though -- they have a rather mediocre home record this year, but are bolstered by good road play. We'll have to figure out a way to grab games from Milwaukee @ Miller Park, because the Crew are very solid at home. So beg, borrow, or steal tix to those Miller Park games -- we need to drown out the Milwaukee fans as much as possible. I'm already going to a couple. Maybe I can sneak away and attend one of the games in Cincy, I don't know -- I'll have to try to work it out.
  24. Heck, if he'd play for the league minimum I might even go for the Cubs signing him under those conditions. Why not? He's lefty power off the bench. Can't have too much pop. He'd make a fantastic DH in the World Series in the games played in the AL park. Hmmmm.... :-k
  25. Yeah, Jimbo respects guys like Trachsel & Wolf -- not because they're good, but because they managed to stick around for years even though they're not good.
