    It sure doesn't seem like he does. It breaks so little it can seem like just another fastball. He does throw it though.

    if Reds management was that smart they never would have hired him to begin with Good point, although I've seen people of questionable intelligence suddenly "get it" when they see their investments start going down the drain. Losing what you own has a tendency to wake folks up pretty quick. Apparently not the Reds though.

    My guess is Angelo told the agent to tell Devin, "Remember when Urlacher showed up to OTA and then they signed him?" They probably refused to sign him while he was holding out, and told him, show up, and then we'll sign. That could be true. At any rate, I'm listening to alot of silly hand-wringing on the radio this morning about how this is "typical Bears" and they should have "given Hester his money long ago." Honestly, do most Bear fans feel this way? Looking at the picture, I really don't see how the Bears have botched their negotiations this offseason. I think they've actually done a pretty good job. Hester's a player under contract -- he has asked for more money. The Bears have agreed to negotiate a new contract. What else can reasonably be expected here?

    Why don't they just trade him if they can't afford to pay him? They could get buco solid prospects for the kid, and those prospects wouldn't be all that expensive. At some point they've got to do something with him, right? It's either up or out.

    Seemed like a smart move to me. Apparently they knew about it all along but waited to spring the complaint for the perfect moment when it would hurt the most. Is it smart from a competitive standpoint? Sure. Is it ass-hattery? Yep, that too. GB's explosion remains one of the most entertaining blow-outs in the history of sports. I've probably seen it 100 times, it never gets old.

    If you're the owner of the Reds, don't you at some point pull Dusty aside and have that conversation: "let's get real here. we're not in this thing. you need to protect our investments." You know, logic & reason as opposed to pie-in-the-sky dreaming?

    ...with still no contract worked out. Team player. Good for him. Bears should re-do that deal, I think they will in fairly short order. If anyone has outplayed his rookie contract, it's Hester.

    I gotta think Howry' nearing a DFA, most especially if Gaudin and Samardzija prove to be effective. I'm worried about Samardzija though. He showed better control @ AAA, but I wouldn't be suprised to see the control problems resurface in Chicago.
