  1. Wait, we're going to start up a conversation about Soto and drugs because nobody can prove he ISN'T using them? Lame.
  2. I wonder if Ned: 1) Is unaware CC faded in the playoffs from overuse or 2) Is aware of it but doesn't care -- he'll get him enough rest to keep him good enough in the playoffs, ride his arm into oblivion during the playoffs and then say bye-bye, someone else's problem for '09 or 3) Really doesn't understand or believe there is any danger here -- "I can simply pitch CC as much as I want and nothing bad can happen because he's a horse." The way he's pitching him at the moment, I think it'll just be blind luck if there are no negative consequences.
  3. Yeah, from the beginning of the set, we expected to split with the Phils and the Brewers to sweep the Pirates. No sense getting all worked up when it happened that way. Also, with the Brewers playing the Mets, and the Cubs the Astros, I expect to end those series with the 6.5 game lead back, or at the very least 5.5. 2 years in a row in the playoffs. It's never happened in any of our lives, and it will happen this year. Let's all just try to focus on that. This game-by-game handwringing -- I've had enough of that in other seasons. I'm determined not to do it this time around.
  4. Anderson probably doesn't have much left. He's 33. Coming off of missing over 1/2 of the 2007 season. He was a Pro Bowler as recently as 06, but that was probably more based on reputation. That being said, he'd be an extra body capable of giving you an above average blocker upfront. He'd be an upgrade over St. Clair now (going to RT, with Tait at LT). And if Williams does come back this year, he'd be a pretty good guy to bridge the gap. The Bears have a spot for him as they could release Barton who is nothing special or they could IR Williams, if they don't think he will come back in 08. Getting Anderson would be similar to the Fred Miller move a couple years ago. May be decent for a year, but shouldn't count on him much after that. I'd bring him in and IR Williams, make the switch (Tait back to LT). A Fred Miller type move isn't that bad of an idea for '08, because in theory we have a path forward with Williams @ LT in '09.
  5. This series does feel quite a bit like that Marlins series.
  6. Just been checking the score off & on today. Looks kinda grim. You've got to hand it to the Crew, ladies & gents. They've been playing great baseball and it's really hard to keep winning every single series, sweep every single opponent, just to maintain the same lead in games.
  7. Okwo and Bazuin, gone. Wasted picks. Good job Jerry. And it's only a matter of time before we add Wolfe to that list, IMHO. What happened to the draft magic anyway, JA????
  8. Come on Sean, I've got faith in you buddy.
  9. They have 3 with the Mets coming up, then 4 @ Philly a little later, and they also have to contend with us 6 times. All while having to make up a 5.5 game deficit (after tonight). Not all that easy. The collective record of their opponents is under .500. Ours is over. That's a pretty arbitrary method of distinction. Yeah. The combined record of the Cubs' opponents could be one game over .500 and the combined record of the Brewers' opponents could be one game under .500 and that statement would hold true. Gotta go a little deeper than that. It isn't a matter of 1 game over .500 vs. 1 game under. I believe the Crew's remaining opponents have a combined record of .488. I don't remember what the Cubs is, but it's not .501. It's significantly better than .500, including the Phillies. We're not talking about one or two games here.
  10. It's the same team I've seen for the past 5 years Jon. To put up those numbers against that defense is just what a Robinson team does. It's one thing to be slow and to be able to tackle but to be slow and not be able to tackle, well it's just the same old story. We've gone from beating (BE teams old and new) Nebraska, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Colorado (in their peak), Georgia, Clemson and LSU in the 80's and 90's to this. Yeah, I was suprised to see the score. Northwestern will probably be pretty bad again this year, so to get blown out by them is extra-nasty.

  12. OK, Mizzou is a pretty good team this year.
  13. The Illini's defense is getting gashed to pieces.
  14. This is the season where that network is most worthwhile. I see they're coloring the field red when a team is in the red zone. Ugh. That's been tried, it's stupid and adds no value to the coverage.
  15. Heck if Illinois doesn't at least put together a drive here it could be 31-13 by halftime.
  16. Yeah that's not good enough. Pretty good blocking on the play by Mizzou as well.
  17. It was a great play by Walker. He got up incredibly fast.
  18. Mich State just made it a football game. 10-7 Cal now.
  19. we were supposed to play middle tennessee, but the backed out. i guess chattanooga's AD is a friend of our AD, so we gave them 500 grand to come be a patsy at the last minute. They said their entire sports budget is 10 mil, so that's a fair chunk of change. we pulled the first teamers early in the second quarter Is the fact that it's a replacement game for Middle Tennessee supposed to make it better? Middle Tennessee is probably better than well over half the opponents of Top 25 teams today. That's not saying much. Just look at most of the cupcakes on the top 25 schedules. The added 12th game is a huge farce. Middle Tennessee is one thing. Chatt sounds like the equivalent of Devry grabbing 50 students out of class and practicing for a couple weeks.

Do you know why the game is Delayed right now?
  21. Who is "Chatt" and why does the NCAA allow them to play Oklahoma?
  22. I find it laughable that the announcers say Juice is "very coachable." He hasn't improved really at all in the area that he needs to. His throwing tendencies appear to be completely uncoachable. At least from where I'm sitting. He's way too far along to be making these same freshman mistakes.
  23. *sigh* It doesn't look to me like Juice has improved his throwing much. He still shows that tendency to overthrow everything, no touch on the ball when he needs to.
  24. Lilly actually hung in there longer than I thought he would. Oh well. We didn't get it done today. We're 7-1 in our last 8 now. The Phillies are a quality opponent, it wasn't likely we would sweep anyway. It's just too bad that the Crew have such a laughable schedule comparatively the rest of the way. The real unfortunate thing in my view is the number of times we will be facing a quality opponent in September while the Crew has a tomato can to knock over.
  25. Why do they continue with the charade that the Mizzou/Illini game is in neutral territory? Sure, it's not on Mizzou's actual home field, but it's well in their territory. It's a Mizzou home game. Every year. Seems like the Illini are foolish to not insist that it switch to a more Illinois-centric location every other year.
