  1. He did it looking right into the Cards' dugout. It was pretty blatant, IMO. I can see why Pujols took exception to it.
  2. It's kinda weird...they are the first team without a mathematical chance to win their division, but the Washington Nationals could be the first ones eliminated completely from playoff contention. Right now they stand 1 game from WC elimination, and 5 from NL East elimination (with both them and the Phils currently playing now) Seattle's number for the WC is 4. It'll be close to see who gets eliminated completely first. Probably my most treasured comment of the year. If there is one thing to remember about the Mariners this season, it's Bill Bavasi's parting shots.
  3. Wow, a case can be made that Wainwright is actually pitching well and getting very unlucky.
  4. Is it me or is Wainwright just exceptionally slow off the mound? Looked like a ball some pitchers would have gobbled up, though certainly you would need to get off the mound quickly.
  5. Yeap. I'm watching the Brewers feed. And yes, I'm an idiot because there are probably 3 or 4 other things I could be doing that would be more fun. Between the two teams' broadcasters, I have a hard time deciding which I hate more. On the one hand, Hrabosky is a crotchety bastard, but still has a decent grasp on the game. On the other hand, the Brewers' announcers are a bit easier on the ears, but they don't sound like they know or care much about baseball. Brian Anderson is the Crew's play-by-play. I think he's just a voice, I don't hear much coming from him that I can't tell was fed through from the truck. Schroeder is a former player but he sounds like he came straight from the Canadian woods to me. Acutally, he reminds me of a hockey guy. His voice is very "yooper" to my ears. .....but they're more careful than most other guys to be courteous to the opposition, so it makes it easy to listen to them, if not all that enlightening. I loved it when Vasgersian was the Crew's PBP guy.
  6. Yeap. I'm watching the Brewers feed. And yes, I'm an idiot because there are probably 3 or 4 other things I could be doing that would be more fun.
  7. Is it really hurting? It's probably the right thing to do. For whatever reason, the lineup tools, IIRC, tend to put the pitcher spot 8th in the ideal lineups. But I might be remembering wrong. Probably not. I don't even know. I just figured it would be some gimmicky thing the Crew & Cards did for the first couple months and then go back to normal. Yost did, LaRussa didn't. I'm not bothered by it or anything. Just suprised it has continued.
  8. I think the Cards are going to get rolled, but I hope you're right. Don't go with what you think. That'll do no good. You've got to get into the good vibes, man. GOTTA OVERRIDE LOGIC WITH EMOTION. ......because logically, I think you're right Cards will get rolled
  9. I can't believe LaRussa is continuing with the pitcher hitting 8th. Is it really helping?
  10. Wainwright's gonna dominate. I can feel it in my bones.
  11. Haugh's been saying this pretty consistently on Tribune Live on CSN too. 6 RB, 2 QB. And it seems like David is right an awful lot. I with you though...keep Hanie, ditch Wolfe. Wolfe isn't ever going to be more than is right now, IMO. Hanie doesn't count toward the 53 man roster because the 3rd QB is "inactive" for the games and can't play unless the first 2 guys get hurt and once they play in a game, the other guys can't come back in. Not true, he would count toward the 53. He just wouldn't count on the gameday or active roster which is at 45. Hmm, so they're only going with 2 QBs, both of whom are bad, behind a line that might as well dress as ushers or turnstiles? Better get Jeff George on speed dial because both Orton and Rex will get knocked out of a game at some point this season. Speed dial? Heck with that. Fire up the computerized telemarketing auto-caller. "Hello. We are the Chicago Bears." "If you can play QB, please press 1." "If you have health insurance, please press 2."
  12. I find it funny that when I'm just joking around my prediction is close. Of course when I really try to make a prediction it turns out to be waaayyy off the mark.
  13. I'd IR Williams. I'm ready for Wolfe to go; I hate when the Bears hang on to a player I truly feel is done anyway but they're just doing it because they can't accept they made a bad pick. But such is life.
  14. You could take the high road and stop reading the game threads if they upset you so much. i only read them now to mock them. the best part about games like this (a game, by the way, that i was 100% confident in the cubs winning at all times...even though if they hadn't won, it would not have mattered one iota) is coming here to read a bunch of hysterical weirdos denounce the team (a team with the best offense, pitching, record, etc in the league, by the way) for meaningless individual plays in meaningless games. i can't believe that this board is now almost completely void of decent baseball discussion during the best season of any of our lives. it's pathetic. i mostly just come here now to talk about movies and make fun of derwood (who is actually right for once on this subject, so i can't even make fun of him for that). You don't really add anything by mocking the game thread and the people in it. And what's the point of coming into every game thread and announcing how bad they are? Are you trying to show that you are better than everyone else because you knew the Cubs would win the whole time and didn't react emotionally to the mistakes in the game? I'm sure you've reacted the same way privately as people do publicly. I agree with EJ, take the high road. yeah, i've reacted like that to playoff games or meaningful regular season games. oh, and i probably also reacted like that when i was 12 or something. but this thing's in the bag, guys. the cubs are going to the playoffs even though, for some reason, some people want to deny it. an error in last night's game is not worth getting worked up about. now is the time to relax and enjoy the team or maybe even spend some of your life doing something besides hanging on every pitch of cubs baseball. and sure, i don't contribute anything by mocking the game thread, but obviously nobody adds to the game thread with the message board equivalent of a poopy diaper, red-faced, tearful temper tantrum, which is what 90% of this thread's posts were. I don't really think it's that bad. It's just fans freaking out like they always do. This is the sanctuary for being a stupid fan, the game thread, the "I'm lost in the moment" thread. There's still good discussion going on in the other forums. I don't understand why you & others let it bother you so much. Come on, you're abuck, you're supposed to be above all this (see how I appeal to your better nature there?)
  15. To be fair, the last Brewers/Cards series could have been very bad for the Brewers had the Cardinals' pen not been completely abysmal. St. Louis gave away at least 3 of those games more than the Brewers took them, that's for sure. Not much doubt tonight, though. It's usually a good idea to *not* roll over and die in front of your home crowd in the middle of a playoff race. But apparently the Cards don't agree 8-)
  16. OK, Marquis not so great. But Duke, even worse. We win in a pitcher's duel, 2-1.
  17. I love the fact that St. Louis is paying Edmonds $2million to play for us this year.
  18. If the rains really do come, they'll have hours & hours to wait it out.
  19. And there's the beginning of the end for NY
  20. I think we're witnessing the last gasp of Cards '08.
  21. 10-0 Crew. I'm gettin' good & ready to declare the Cards dead. You know, in my own mind.
  22. They're in slam plus on deck range.
  23. If he does blow this, it's got to be bad Mets karma.
