  1. Pujols OPS: 1.106 OPS+ 189 Howard OPS: .872 OPS+ 121 That should clinch it. Plus Howard's 190 K's versus Albert's 52 (!). OK OK, maybe strikeouts should matter that much but look at that huge disparity. Albert hits for plenty of power and he doesn't have to sacrifice bat control to get it. Albert's such a better ballplayer than Howard I don't even think it's close. I'm saying all of this because I just heard an argument this morning that Howard should get it because he has "loaded Philly on his shoulders and carried them to the playoffs." Unfortunately that's what they said about Sosa the year he won it too. It's a non argument in my book.
  2. Looks like they're paying us back for all the road games in September that we had to play this year though. It would be nice to have another off day in there.
  3. Guess the Trib's website sucks too.
  4. When a team doesn't succeed for 50 years, it becomes some kind of curse. I'm not sure what the Indians curse is. Oh does it take 50 then? So I guess the Natspos aren't cursed yet.
  5. When other teams do it, they call it a "collapse." When the Cubs do it, they call it a "curse." I sense a double-standard here.
  6. I didn't watch the whole game, but 3/4 runs came on Fielder homers. I'd say the rest of the lineup remains slumpish. Hopefully Jason won't help them get out of it.
  7. YEAH!!! JESUS HE WAITED ALL THAT TIME TO THROW THE BREAKER!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!
  8. Too much with the fastball. Now Braun.
  9. Next 2 hitters will be swinging for the fences, Woody.
  10. blah blah blah Yes, I was referring to the Shouse/Ward matchup, which didn't materialize. I underestimated Hank though.
  11. Sad, but that's probably a valid question. Although you can't blame him much for that AB in particular.
  12. My bad, it's Blanco. Still pretty bad.
  13. Horrible matchup here for the Cubs.
  14. Purpose. He did it on purpose. Tried twice, they want the DP anyway. Dirty bastichs.
  15. Obviously the Cubs are going to win the division no matter what, but this is the same mentality that I heard before Game 5 of the NLCS in 2003. People debated the Cubs losing Game 5 so they could win at home. Sorry that you might not be able to see them clinch in person, but you should be cheering for the Cubs to win every game until it doesn't matter anymore. In 03, I was driving to Atlanta while Game 4 was being played. I honestly was totally torn about what to root for in that game. I wasn't crushed when they lost, but I did want them to win. In retrospect it hurts, but people had these visions of the ultimate celebration at Wrigley, and you could taste it. I don't think I blame anyone for wanting to see it. I was all set to drive down and join the party. I drove from Champaign for Game 7 and drove back after. Worst 3 hours ever. Ouch. The friggin' trail of tears. I would not have wanted to be driving in that crowd leaving Wrigley that night.
  16. Whoever is reporting this should be shot on sight.
  17. Do they have the resources to go after FA's? I figured if they hired Dusty as manager they would be proactive in trying to go out and get some veteran talent to mix with the youngsters. Neifi's available.

  19. I really don't want to be 1-3, need to win this game Bears.
  20. Now we find out what Aaron Rodgers is really made of. A suprisingly bad Vikings team + miserable Detroit doesn't prove anything. Beat Dallas and I will be impressed.
  21. No, no. We've got to take at least one of these games, preferrably two. It would be a bad thing to allow the Crew to stage some kind of late season renaissance against us @ Wrigley. Can't let them sweep. I think there's a very good chance the Cubs will take two of three from the Brewers. I don't know what it was Z' no hitter, the unexpected break or a combination of these events but, I get the sense that this team is back to where it was in August - confident, having fun and playing good baseball. Wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning 8-10 of the remaining 13 games. I hope they are but my Cubbie sense keeps saying we shouldn't let up until this thing is actually clinched, and maybe not even beyond. Not because I think there's danger, but for the reason that we want to be playing good baseball and have a good frame of mind heading into the playoffs. The worst thing in the world right now would be to win the division by 3 games because we're entering the playoffs on a downer and pressing like we were earlier in the month. I still think there's value to playing good baseball all the way through. Yes you rest a few guys where you can, but you still need to find a way to cruise in. Just my 2 cents on this thing.
  22. I didn't understand either move, but had put my faith in Lovie to know what was what with those guys. Same here...but I can't say I was vehemently opposed to either one. Neither one was something I was passionately for or against. I didn't understand the move. I can't say I was vehemently opposed to it because I assumed coming off the Super Bowl that Lovie knew what he was doing and I'm just a sorry fan who knows nothing. Well, that was wrong. My gut feeling told me if he got benched in Washington then he's not likely to be any better than that in Chicago.
  23. Seconded that's one of the big things Grossman has on Orton, Orton' not merely bad on the deep ball he's flat out terrible. As a side note Chris Harris has a really big mouth, it would great if the Bears got another opportunity vs Panthers this season. As much as I'd like to rail on CH for his comments, the fact is he should still be playing for the Bears. He knows it, half the Bears roster knows it, and I'll bet Lovie in his heart of hearts knows it. I still don't mind the Chris Harris cut. He had proven to be a mediocre safety. Bears had Manning (though he was moving to CB), Mike Brown, Archuleta, McGowan and Payne. Whether you thought it was highly like that Brown would get hurt (as did Payne) and Archuleta would suck is really beside the point. I'm not sure how the Archuleta trade made any sense whatsoever. He had proven himself to be poor in Washington. There was no reason to bring him in here and cut Harris. A mediocre safety beside Brown would have been a great improvement. Payne might be better now, but that shouldn't have prevented the Bears from keeping Harris at the time. The Archuleta move was simply nonsensical.
