  1. Fuku's not a young player. I fear his hitting approach is too much a part of who he is as a baseball player to change it now. I can see it being impossible for him to make the kind of adjustment it would take. Not because he wouldn't want to, but because it's just really hard to go against what you've learned and used for so many years in Japan.
  2. Soto's game-tying homer was a genuine http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa250/soulschizm/Owlfunny3.jpg moment.
  3. Hahah. Torres is the new Roy Williams.
  4. Oh you can bet the Milwaukee series will be blamed for the rest of their season if they don't make the playoffs. Which it looks like they won't. I wouldn't be surprised to find, in the fullness of time, that the Cubs become the de facto blameee too.
  5. Has Lou commented on how much Z will be used?
  6. Why? That's how he always is. I would actually find it more interesting if he exploded with emotion. The only time I've really seen him do that was when he went after Young.
  7. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/huddleup/2008/09/hester-has-torn.htm Also, Chris is going to come back and be the dominant LT we all hoped he would be. Come on now people, power of positive thinking.
  8. Wouldn't put him 7th or 8th on account of the "loading up on the shoulders" effect?
  9. Seriously. Use him like you use Harden. He'd be fine, I think. Because theres nothing more wed rather do than relive the Prior/Wood Saga. Not if it's Dempster-type signing or something like that. If his arm is blown out I'd resign him for cheap & rehab him. It wouldn't be anything like Prior/Wood. Harden isn't either. We know what can happen with Rich up front. Nobody's expecting him to be the franchise for the next 10 years.
  10. You know what though? Much as I want to have fun with that, it sounds very, very familiar. Can you guess where you could find comments that are almost carbon copies of those? Any teams message board after a devastating loss in a tight playoff race? True. I was thinking the game threads on NSBB from this time in '04. But really, you're right.

  12. All I can is do laugh and point at my computer screen. Laugh and point. Then laugh some more. Unbelievable. A couple people popped their heads into my office to see what was going on when Gameday posted the update. :yahoo:
  13. Thank God, McGowan is probably my least favorite Bear. He has been garbage since he has gotten here. Remember that Steve Smith playoff game? Well, that was Brandon McGowan chasing him around on a few of those long plays. That was his rookie season and he's sucked since. Makes a ton of penalties on special teams and generally sucks as a DB. To think they traded Chris Harris because they were confident in Adam Archuleta and Brandon McGowan is ridiculous. Terrible decisions by Lovie and Jerry. Your blind hatred for McGowan has clouded your memory. Brandon McGowan did not play in that playoff game. And I only remember 2 or 3 long plays to Steve Smith. One was when Tillman fell down and Mike Brown was giving chase. Another was Chris Thompson getting molested and Mike Green giving chase. There may have been 1 more big play, but I don't recall it. I do recall McGowan NOT playing though. The Bears safeties that day were Mike Brown, Mike Green, Todd Johnson, and Chris Harris. McGowan only played in 05 at the end of the season because Mike Brown was hurt. Ah, thanks. Chris Thompson must have been the person I replaced in my memory with McGowan. Regardless, he sucks. Well, he's gone now so hopefully someone else steps up.
  14. OK Cubs, I'm not really in the mood for another one of those "the pitcher sucks but we simply won't score anyway" type of days. So let's post some runs, win this one, and move on to the weekend series with a near-guarantee of clinching before we head to NY. Thanks for listening.
  15. I prefer the raw emotion to analysis in the booth. Yes, they need Hughes to balance him out but so what? I don't feel like I'm missing any of the game. Guys who break out the sabermetrics in the booth bore me to tears. I like analysis just fine, but during the game I run on emotion and that's the way I will always be.
  16. Pitching a complete game 1-0 shutout with a bad elbow is a far cry from being a wuss. Really, I want to know what the hell Yost was thinking letting him throw 110-120 pitches per start despite knowing about this. No wonder he got fired. If Sheets can't make another start, the Brewers are toast. It's awfully tough to make the postseason when your rotation to end the year is Sabathia-McClung-Suppan-Bush-DiFelice. Wow, I totally didn't realize Parra was pulled too.
  17. Did you already have the no-hitter recorded? Because frankly I'd prefer having that one on DVR than this one, provided Harden doesn't do something similar.

Makes a ton of penalties on special teams and generally sucks as a DB. To think they traded Chris Harris because they were confident in Adam Archuleta and Brandon McGowan is ridiculous. Terrible decisions by Lovie and Jerry. McGowan was very good on ST though. IIRC, he has had a few ST penalties and I'm really getting sick of having good returns called back. But you're right, he was doing some good things on ST as well.
  19. He could try dex, but he said last night it was worse and he wasn't able to get the ball where he needed it. So I think the Brewers would have to consider whether or not he'll be effective. Plus, if you pitch him for his final 2 starts then will it be worse for the playoffs? Maybe the Crew shuts him down, hoping to somehow get into the playoffs and pitch him then. I don't think so. I think the Brewers will use him if he can pitch. They probably don't care b/c they are not likely to sign him for next year and beyond. If he doesn't improve from last night then it might do more harm to the Crew's playoff chances than good. I don't wish injury on the guy but pitching with pain the elbow.....that's a dicey endeavor.
  20. So.....if Sheets were to be declared done for the year (just the hypothetical), would that change anyone's desire to face the Mets in the NLDS over perhaps having the Crew win the WC and we face the Dodgers in the NLDS? I'd like our chances a good deal against the Crew in the NLCS if they only have CC/Parra as their 1 & 2. Especially since we've now hit CC a couple of times in a row pretty good. I think we can take out the Dodgers. Just throwing it out there.

  22. First, I want the Cubs to clinch this thing so I can stop caring until October ;)
  23. Wow, sucks for McGowan. Steltz has a chance to play a bigger role now, though. Wasn't Danieal originally the starting nickelback? Why did he stop getting the PT there? He lost the starting job in TC/preseason. Although to be fair, from what I've seen McGowan hasn't been all that much better. I think it's a wash for the Bears, neither player is particularly impressive.
  24. You just said you would give the award to a guy because he has a OBP over .400 right after you argued that the guy with the .335 OBP should get it over the guy with the .461 OBP.
