  1. That's a great picture though. I must have missed that fight.
  2. I'm shocked. LOL. yeah.
  3. I've found something to the effect of "please speak up, it's hard to hear you down in 4th place" can be pretty effective. Then you get to hear about 2006. Yeah, usually it's something about 1908. We were catching 1908 crap at the Orioles series we went to, in the last game when Baltimore killed Jason Marquis. It was kind of cute in a "we've never been relevant except for that one time our shortstop didn't sit out for 16 years" sort of way. From Orioles fans it's pretty funny....a little ironic maybe. From Cards fans though -- unfortunately they've won a World Series very recently. They can talk crap. Glad I don't have to live down there.
  4. I want to check out Rose. Beyond that, we'll see.
  5. Let's just revive the Roberts thread from last year, see if we can get to 1000 pages of the same 10 posts over & over & over.
  6. At least they hit something at Dodger Stadium.
  7. Make Theriot the bench guy and a real damn SS for a change. Can we agree on that?
  8. What good receivers did Moose play alongside in Chicago? Maybe Berrian? Maybe? Teams have to do so much coverage on Steve Smith, that Moose can probably get open a lot easier. I haven't watched enough of the games to be sure that's what's going on, but it seems pretty likely. Moose would drop easy throws again & again. I think part of this is that Grossman stopped throwing his way. Who would? Regardless of how he does in Carolina, he didn't live up to his end of the bargain here.
  9. I don't think anyone should make excuses for his poor play, but that doesn't mean you ignore the other deficiencies that made his development much more difficult.
  10. Unbelievable how Cleveland is turning out. I was a fool for thinking they would be good. Time for Crennel to be shown the door. He's got talent to work with on that roster.
  11. I'd really like to put this "ghosts of Wood/Prior" thing to rest. Do we have to go through this every time a pitcher has a twinge in his arm from now on? Come on, the situations are completely and totally different.
  12. The Blue Jays shouldn't be so quick to think they've got hope. They've now got 3 legit contenders in front of them instead of two.
  13. The factors HM mentioned were certainly all in play.
  14. But they probably have in the past. Yeah, trust me the Brewer fans around here don't dare talk about how great their franchise has done in comparison. It's not a real solid argument after 26 years of their own failure. There's Tiger fans. They're not dumb enough to suggest how bad the Cubs did when they blew their own golden opportunity and had a massive collapse this year of their own to deal with. There's 1 Red Sox fan. He's always made it known he roots for the Cubs until the WS if the BoSox are there. Heard nothing from him. Minny fans......I just don't get alot of tripe from them, no matter what. Not even on the Vikings/Bears. I think people from Minny are just generally nice. Not many White Sox fans here, oddly enough. I suppose I would get crap from them, but they aren't around me.
  15. If you knew the Cubs would be in the playoffs every year, I'll bet you wouldn't let it bother you so much UMFan. We'll be back. Next year should be another pretty good one. There's no more "Cubs can't do it two years in a row." All these Cub stereotypes are dropping off. It's only a matter of time. First it was "Cubs can't make the playoffs, ever." (1984....gone). Then it was, "They'll never win a playoff series!!" (2003, done). Then it was, "yeah but they'll never make the playoffs two years in a row!" (2008, finished). It's only a matter of time. We've been to the playoffs 3 times in the past 6 years. We've been the division champs half the years since '03. More good things coming. Focus on that.
  16. His solution doesn't make much sense. "I got injured, so now I'll try being a stationary target." That's what bugs me.
  17. Seriously. Would people want him sulking all offseason? That would solve nothing.
  18. Unless they're fans of the Red Sox, Rays, Phillies, or Dodgers (which is probably 1 or 2 people out of hundreds).......the people who are around me are smart enough to understand their teams did no better.
  19. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-10/42778437.jpg Ultimate sign of failure, or universal sign of person with luggage? How in the hell is that the ultimate sign of failure? Because of the context. I'm not being serious here. I'm trying to have a little fun with this thing. A lot of angry Cub fans would see it this way, right or wrong. I just think it's funny, thinking about how they would view this.
  20. I just realized how funny that 2nd picture is. He's dragging his bag behind him, the ultimate sign of failure -- and he's like "yeah baby, right back at ya! w00t! happy times!" He should be McCain's campaign advisor.
  21. I'd say the opposite. I think Orton can detect the pressure a lot better than Rex, and sets up the blocking scheme to handle it. That's the key. Grossman was at his best picking apart defenses that sent 4 pass rushers. Once teams saw he could be rattled, they messed with him, and he never adjusted. Orton has been ducking and diving away from pass rushers in every game. It kind of confuses me, because you're right, but I distinctly remember Grossman avoiding the rush in his first games as a Bear. After that Minny injury he stopped moving around. I don't understand why, if you are rattled by the rush and you are trying to avoid injury, that your solution would be to become a statue in the pocket. Doesn't make sense to me.
  22. I wish Ronny well if he's traded, but I'm ready to replace him. Let's try someone else. I think we can do better.
  23. :rotfl: :rotfl: That top one is priceless. Hey -- you gotta have a short memory, am I right?
  24. We're not. It's a one year deal. And we know what we're getting into with Harden, unlike Prior when we were almost forced to hold on to dreams of a franchise-anchoring all-star type. Nobody is expecting Harden to be that. $7 million isn't all that much for a guy like Harden, IMO. Yeah, you probably have to baby him. I like the idea of Marshall continuing to get spot starts. I don't think he's such a bad option to spell Harden if need be. I think Rich did everything he could for us. His velocity was down, but when he pitched I always felt it was a good day for us. His results were pretty good, even though he didn't go deep into games. My biggest frustration point with him was when he would get into these fits of throwing every pitch head-high. But I don't think that's due to shoulder problems, that's something else.
  25. Grossman was actually much better than Kyle over the first 5 games of '06. But somehow I have hope Kyle will be able to sustain better. I don't get the sense that teams will be able to rattle him just by blitzing. They might get to him, but Kyle.....I don't know....he seems more oblivious to pressure than Rex. Actually he seems more oblivious to the world in general  I think that's a good thing.
