Yep. And Lovie is on a flight back to Chicago from Charlotte with Peppers and his agent. It sounds like it's gonna be Manumanaleuna, Peppers, and Taylor...and still probably a safety, though not necessarily today on that one. Angelo was a hero after the Cutler deal, a huge goat after the season, and now everybody is gonna love him again...or at least like him a whole lot more. Mike & Mike compared Chicago to Washington this morning, and they were saying "we know this doesn't work." Sour grapes.

So now the question is, how does Quenneville play this? He can give Niemi more time, see if he develops more in time for the playoffs. Or he can punt, say it's too close to playoff time and we need Huet playing, and switch back. Either way, the talk about the Blackhawks going into the playoffs will certainly be whether the goaltending can hold up.

Huet is absolutely a starter in this league, and it's not close. There aren't two dozen better goalies in the league right now. He may not be the ideal starter for a Cup contender, and he may be overpaid, but he's definitely a No. 1 somewhere in the league. According to his save percentage, he is 32nd out of 45 qualified goalies, on by all accounts a good defensive team. and that's assuming the quality of shots they see are equal, which they aren't. I think the best we see from Huet is when he's playing regularly. I could be wrong statistically, but I feel like when he comes in cold there's just going to be goals scored. If he's playing regularly, he can get hot. Seeing Niemi look less sharp (even when we were winning), I'm starting to think now that we just need to play Huet and hope he gets hot.

yeah, but we can't ignore the line, either. Ignore it? No. But from what I understand, there isn't that slam-dunk guy the Bears could sign to make it all better. On the other hand, Peppers would be huge, and Marshall as well, and they should be available (albeit -- expensive in terms of either money or trade value). So I'm assuming the Bears are concentrating on what they feel they can make big strides in, given that the draft just isn't going to do it for them this year. If they did acquire Peppers I also assume they'd go OG with one of their earlier picks. Should be able to pick up a decent OG around the 3rd.

It sounds interesting. I'm just not sure Soriano would ever be a good 1B. There would definitely be a dropoff from Lee, I'm just not sure how much.

I've never heard that as a suggestion before. My intial impression is that it's pretty radical.

Yeah. I went to work out last night and they were winning 2-1. I came out and they were down 5-2. That didn't sound too much like the Blackhawks I'm used to. Also -- hasn't it been forever since we've beaten the Islanders? Strange that they would be the team we can never beat, if that's true (can't remember where I saw that).

If he was great, then at his age he'd go for a 1st rounder. He's not, but his physical tools are undeniable and his potential is still well intact. Asking for, say, a 2nd + a 6th is not outrageous at all.

Better be the first one, plus a 5th or something. I was thinking the same thing. Something else needs to be thrown in besides just a straight-up Olsen for 2nd rounder trade.

Oh yes -
Green, Bulger, Kitna and O'Sullivan all had decent mobility at one time. Green and Bulger had injuries which hurt their mobility. Kitna always was a mobile QB. And O'Sullivan was 5th for QBs in yards per game scrambling when he started 8 games for Martz in 2008. I don't think Martz will be able to get away with hanging his QB out to dry in Chicago like he might have been able to in his former cities. I think we're going to see a tempered Martz approach, not the "greatest show on turf" Martz approach.

Don't do it Chester. Throwing the ball isn't a major strike against Martz. The thing I would be concerned about are the deep routes he runs and number of 7 step drops he uses with that o-line. His QB's have gotten killed when they haven't had a good o-line in front of them. For the Bears, OL is a much bigger need than WR or anything on defense in my opinion. I'm hoping Williams is ready to be that left tackle now. I'm basing this off of his play against the Vikings late in the season, which was pretty good against one of the better pass rushers in the league. I'm still worried about it though. I realize there's more to it than just LT, but that would be the key first step to not having Cutler land in the hospital.

yeah, the u.s. did all the things that russia should have done but didn't - play physical, make the simple plays (get the puck deep, short passes, got traffic in front of the net). maybe russia doesn't have the type of players who will do those things, or maybe the coaches didn't try to get them to play the system that could give a super-talented team trouble. I'm not an expert on Russian hockey, but from what I have heard it's just not their style of play. You would think they'd try a few adjustments though.

Why hopefully? Hopefully Martz fixes this inept offense, which just happens to include a disappointing TE, and stays for a while. and if olsen is less valuable at receiver than someone who actually plays receiver in martz's offense, why play him out of position if you can get something for him? martz has said that he won't play a tight end at receiver when he can put a receiver at that position. olsen will play tight end and he will learn to block or he will not play for the bears anymore. there's always some risk when you deal a player with potential like Olsen, but in my mind he hasn't done anything to make me feel like he's untouchable. It would depend on the return value.

yeah we put much more energy into our sports of choice. Still, I think we've done well in the Olympics of late. It's hard for me to even imagine a time when we would seriously challenge in the World Cup.

We came into this being told by many that we would be lucky to even get bronze. And we took silver, plus played very good hockey with an amazing team. It would have been incredible to pull the upset, but USA hockey comes away looking pretty good. And Blackhawk players were big throughout.
