  1. I'm hoping it won't be Anderson, except situationally. But I suppose that could be a hollow hope. Well it's gonna be Anderson or Idonije. I believe Izzy would be a better every down option, with Anderson situationally rushing the passer.
  2. I'm wondering what reason I would have to care about the regular season now, or even the conference tourneys. Is it to find out if the 7th, 8th, and 9th best teams in a conference will "make it"? Sorry, that's not enough for me to pick up the remote.

  4. Since they elected not to tell anyone they would need to release a quality player to afford Peppers, I've got to wonder what other surprises might be coming. Certainly Alex had no inkling; he was the most vocal Bear in support of the Peppers signing, both before and after, that I heard.
  5. Just now you're convinced? How many shutouts does he have? Yes, he's shown plenty of times that he can do it. The problem has been all season that just as things start to look good for him taking the job, he falls apart. I'm saying that, when you watch what he did last night especially during the 2 man adv, it's clear that he has ability. Consistency? Might be another story. But that point has been clear all year, and the consistency issue has been the question. OK.....I guess I'm restating it then.

  7. I'm convinced that Niemi *can* make the saves. The question is *will* he make the saves come playoff time.
  8. Minny is intent on giving up softies tonight. Niemi looked great on that 2 man adv earlier. Ben Eager shows up tonight, waddaya know.
  9. Good. I was getting tired of hearing how much Millar is going to help this club......OFF the field.
  10. So Brown is as good as gone. Again though: I can't see a reason a team would trade something away for Brown when they know he'll be available soon for just the cash. Maybe if there were several suitors competing, none of whom wanted to get beat to the punch. But in this case, I don't see that. Brown isn't going to be a life-or-death acquisition for anyone.
  11. Whoops, sorry didn't see jersey's response
  12. Depends on whether you weigh Xs and Os more than getting the talent to the school. Nobody does less with more than Coach K Coach K: 3 titles, 11 Final Fours Izzo: 1 title, 6 Final Fours Has Coach K had that significantly more talent than Izzo? Coach K has been at it a lot longer than Izzo, though.
  13. If I'm reading this correctly, the author is attempting to temper his Izzo celebratory article by saying that Michigan State only advanced to the finals of the tournament in two of the five times they reached the final four. This makes no sense to me. How is this a critical statement? That means they made the final four five times, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. I don't get it either. I'm not sure I buy that Izzo is the greatest coach in the game, but I don't see any valid way to undermine his accomplishments. Where is MSU's program without him? Very likely, nowhere.
  14. They are making me more interested in the Cubs. I've been thinking the same thing. And that is depressing. Yeah, that's true for me as well. A few weeks ago I was thinking about how I could swing another trip to Chicago to see the Blackhawks before the season ended. Now I don't care -- just waiting for April 24th and 25th to get here, which is the first chance I'll have to see the Cubs in 2010.
  15. Not that I think it's the end of the world, but I'm concerned about SS depth now.
  16. Sure helps our chances of trading him when it leaks that they might release him anyway.
  17. This team is a huge buzzkill right now.
  18. Here's hoping they continue to suck.
  19. That was a nice article. My Dad took me to games at Wrigley in the '70s. Been going ever since. Wrigley was always a signature place for us, but something definitely happened more recently to up the stakes on the mythology a bit. I've always assumed it was the marketing efforts of the Cubs, and I do think that has played a part. The memorable performances also helped: Sosa's HRs, Wood's 20K game (and really that season of Woody). .....actually being a winning baseball team more often.
  20. I don't think they'll send him down, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea right now.
  21. Not something of top value certainly, but you wouldn't even say a 4th rounder for a player who has been consistent as hell like Alex Brown? I also believe Izzy could replace Brown's production.
  22. I'd give it up under two scenarios: 1) I was getting what I thought was good value in return for him. 2) I had another player who I thought would be better at a cheaper price, and younger.
  23. I cringe at the thought of Huet spending several games on the bench in the playoffs, then being expected to come in (for some reason). He's shaky as it is when he's warmed up. When he hasn't played, he's downright bad.
  24. My guess is they're thinking Gilbert/Izzy. I don't know. Alex had a typical year for him last year (48 tck, 6 sacks), but he's also 30 years old. I'm not sure what all the factors are in shopping him or what they could get. But I'm not opposed to the idea entirely. I guess at this point it just depends on what we'd be talking about in terms of return value, if any.
  25. A depressing look at the Bears' draft picks from Brad Biggs. I don't know if I really buy the whole draft pick value thing. Too many 1st round busts. It's only valuable until you screw it up -- and there's a lot of screwing it up going on.
