That would seem to make the most sense. What will they do with Huet? Demote him to Rockford and just eat his money? I'm not sure how all that works.

There have been many other season where the Cubs sucked. It's a little strange to hear a Cub fan pretend like he doesn't remember '06, for example, and call what is happening right now the worst he's ever seen. -
I don't know whether to hope for a quick, merciful ending or more drawn-out drama. Whoever goes through will certainly be at a disadvantage in the next round, I would think.

He's back to Earth now. Wells was a nice surprise last year but I think we knew he wasn't that good. -
All you had to do is follow the Hawks through the regular season to know that Buff wasn't all that special until the playoffs came around. Not that performing well in the playoffs has no value, but everyone knows the Hawks were going to need to make sacrifices, and Buff was a good candidate. I'd say they aren't just new Hawks fans, but also poor sports fans in general if they don't realize this was a pretty good deal for the Hawks. Of course it depends on the draft selections, but to have a shot at acquiring good young talent in the draft for Buff and Sopel? That's a sweet deal for us. I expected much less in return. I'm hoping we only need to do one more deal. Not sure who it will be. Ladd maybe. Possibly Steeger. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how things are going so far.

I'll be in Chicago July 17th and 18th, and I'm debating not even buying tix in advance. I'll bet there are some sweet deals to be had outside the ballpark day of game.

It's June 23rd. I'm kind of starting to look forward to late July now. Even though I don't really expect a great season. It will be nice to have football to talk about again.

Kind of, yeah. I think you are basically wishing it didn't have to go down like that. So do I. But the reason it had to happen is more because Alex showed up where he shouldn't have, rather than because the Bears acted poorly.

Definitely would understand the NFL forbidding it. Not just the NFL, but any sport. It goes hand in hand with the idea of tampering. I don't understand how this is a story, or how the tribune picked it up as a breaking news story and sort of agree he was being mistreated. He's got no reason to be there. I understand after 8 years with the org he still has friends, but if Alex wanted to hang out with some of his buddies do it at a club, bowling alley, etc,etc, not at another team's Home Office. I believe Alex should not have been escorted out of the building by security like a common thug, I think somebody like Angelo or Smith should have meet with him and let him know he isn't allow there (Bears HQ) anymore as he isn't a member of the org. But don't the Bears need to act quickly in that kind of situation? What if Lovie and/or Angelo aren't available? I just don't think the Bears did anything wrong at all in this situation. They need to follow league rules. And frankly, so does Alex. I always liked A Brown, but it seems like he just brain farted on the league rule, or was unaware of it when he probably should have been, and should simply drop it and move on.

How could one accurately say they KNOW they are not? But yet you are saying just that. All I know is the pressure on the Cubs is a) different, and b) probably greater than that faced by a "typical" team/player. You don't know either of those things. Sorry to break everyone's hearts, but most players couldn't care less about the history of the Cubs and what winning a title would mean to Cubs fans. To the extent that the players are reminded of it by the media, and having to answer questions about it, then yes it can and probably does add to their stress or pressure or whatever. If nothing else it's a distraction. It might be even worse to have to listen to the stupid curse talk over & over again when you don't give a damn. -
There's not additional significance placed on, say, a GB/CHI matchup because of the long history of both teams? Oh, I think there is. I don't think this is a hockey-only thing. It's probably more acute in hockey as jersey said.

Nobody "characterized their situation as no different than any other team." The discussion is over whether people honestly believe that players on the Cubs face what apparently amounts to crippling pressure in playoff situations simply because they play for the Cubs (as if that is the overriding factor over how the teams match up, how the team was constructed, who is injured, who is hot, etc., etc.). Not impossible, just additionally difficult until they get it done. Which, as you'll remember, I don't believe they ever will! :hello: -
I'm sure they are. They're probably still hoping against hope that this team will turn around.

Correct. It's just the reality of the situation. The team blows. Believe it or not, some Cub fans actually do care about the quality of baseball that they would be seeing if they shell out for tickets.
