  1. To me it means the team is financially able to command large sums of money which *should* translate into better baseball on the field. Of course, in practice it doesn't always work out that way. But I'll still take a Cubs franchise that can throw a large payroll out there if necessary over a team that is always hamstrung.
  2. i foresee some heavy FCC fines in the marine corps' future. I noticed that too. You mean if I join up I'll puke? Oh hell yea where do I sign?
  3. Their grounders go to the right place, and ours go to the wrong place
  4. as a 19-year old in AA, he walked 28 times in 162 at bats and only Kd 19 times. His OPS was 1057 there's no chance he isnt a blanking stud yup... people are acting like we're being victor diaz or jeff blausered here. Lol, yea. He sure looks like he can get around on anything. At least from what little I've seen.
  5. There should be a way to charge that run to Fontenot.
  6. Absolutely.
  7. So basically the Cubs low-priced seats are the highest in the country. Not sure that means much.
  8. I was wondering this as well. I don't believe anyone drafted him before to retain his rights. If so, then wouldn't that mean he still needs to go through? I'm not sure.
  9. See now I'm starting to daydream baseball. Fortunately it's not a very nice day today or I wouldn't get any work done.
  10. Fine but that still doesn't prove that there is any negative effect to them making the playoffs and getting stomped. You can argue the level of benefit though from minute to fairly beneficial. I would just enjoy knowing that the team accomplished something despite losing last year's leading scorer, starting off the season really poorly, trading 2 key role players to teams your competing for playoff spots with, and dealing with injuries to the 3 best players on the team at the same time for a 5-10 game stretch. I probably wasn't very clear. I wasn't trying to say what would be better or worse for the Bulls, just what I don't personally care to see.
  11. I've seen stand alone banners, but not 8 packed in tightly around the marquee. One year saw a game in Cleveland and they had very similar banners all around the outside. It wasn't really packed around the marquee like this though. I think the Twins do something similar (though I haven't seen a game up there in awhile and can't totally remember). Maybe I'm a sucker for advertisement but it does kind of get me excited for baseball -- which I'm sure is the intent.
  12. I've seen such banners/exterior decor at other stadiums and liked it. I think it looks OK.
  13. OK, but I don't think it's out of bounds to complain when he melts down. Drawing larger conclusions about it may be, but it's really Z's job to be in top form every time out. Doesn't seem like he's been doing that. No pitcher, ever, has been in top form every time out. Plenty of pitchers don't suffer the same magnitude of meltdowns, with the same frequency, as Z. And what magnitude and frequency would that be? We've seen that sort of inning from Z before. It's not just giving up the runs, it cascades into other things like bad throws. I don't see all kinds of other pitchers doing that.
  14. Eh, marginal experience at best. Take 'em to 6 or 7 games -- that seems different. But just taking the court as fodder for a contender? I don't see how a guy like Taj will benefit all that much from that.
  15. I'm worried about Detroit. We can beat them if we play well, but I don't like having to face them first. Fortunately the Blackhawks aren't me :)
