  1. The Titans/Ravens playoff game atmosphere from a couple years ago was pretty fantastic – comparable to a UT football game I believe I said at the time – but generally the pro atmosphere is nowhere near as good as the college atmosphere. For me ticket prices are definitely a turn off. I'll pay them when I'm doing well, but when I feel like I'm struggling more, going to a Bear game is at or near the top of the list of things that won't happen. TV coverage of NFL football is really good IMO. There are so many times when sitting in the stands, far away from the actual action on the field, that I've struggled to understand the details of what happened and needed to get home and catch the highlights to find out. And that includes attempting to review on the jumbotron. For some reason, I just don't feel that way when attending live baseball nearly as much as live football. Plus, cold freezing weather, uncomfortable seats........the fact that Bear games are sold out pretty much immediately even when they aren't going to be a contending team. It all adds up to staying at home, and watching NFLST.
  2. I don't understand why people seem to be excited over the fact that media and so-called "experts" aren't givng the Bears respect. Why is it a bad thing, and, frankly, why should they be getting respect? They Beat the Lions by one point at home while making a ton of mistakes that almost cost them the game. Regardless of yardage differential, that's not impressive. I'd rather be receiving criticism from the media than praise as a general rule anyway. Players read the media reports and rankings -- I'd like them to receive any extra bit of motivation possible, all things being equal. I say: PLEASE DISRESPECT US.
  3. Mucho love for Big Buff.......until we play the Thrashers :)
  4. If we're just talking picking the winner without a point spread, I don't see how anyone could pick the Bears.
  5. He looked really good at times, but yes -- then he'd drop one. But he was open, and Cutler was finding him. That makes me feel pretty good about the prospects for the Cutler/Shodu connection moving forward. I know Jay wants to get the ball to him because he's a big target and he looks pretty good out there most of the time.
  6. It wasn't good, unfortunately. I think they'll need to help him against many of the DEs he will face. If someone has a better option I'd be all for it, and try to work Williams into another position on the line. But none of these other guys look like they could hold up in pass protection on an island, either. Bottom line, I don't see the Bears has having the horse who can shine in that role for 2010. It's going to be a problem all year long, so we need to just give him help and live with it.
  7. Maybe people have since looked beyond just the CJ catch and realized the Bears completely dominated the Lions.
  8. He's a hall of fame player and THE face of the resurgance of the Cubs that happened in the 80's. That's when the Cubs went from sparsely attended crappy team to occasionally good worthwhile attraction for most of Chicago. He is going to get all the spring training media attention. The camera is going to be on him a lot. Nobody gives a crap about Bob Dernier, let alone a guy that played for the Tigers. Nobody would even recognize Quade on the street. I know, but Quade would be the guy doing all the interviews, the post-game. You'd have Hendry talking about Quade. You have the organization pointing to Quade. You have Ryno pointing at Quade. I understand what you're saying but I don't think it's something that should make the decision for the organization. It's something to deal with; not something to override hiring Quade if they feel he's the guy who should be the manager.
  9. Is it really true that he would outshine Quade? We've got Cub former players right now as bench coaches, and there's Trammel too. I don't know. I see this notion of Ryno as the "former great player" and people seem to latch on to that. Then we start sliding towards hiring him as manager based on these loyalties. It kind of bothers me. Yes, he's a former player and a great one. That's what gets him some cache to begin his managerial career. But after that, I think the Cubs need to make what they feel is the best move for the organization, separate from all the "HOF player" hype. If the next step for Ryne Sandberg is coaching off the bench in the majors (in the opinion of the Cubs), then that's what it should be. There shouldn't be an artificial promotion of him to manager because he is a HOF player. He's not playing anymore.
  10. More free floating radicals. Good thing, yes sir.
  11. I think the main thing for me is that if the Cubs feel Quade would be a good choice, then make him the manager. Don't just go with Ryno because he's the former great player who "has paid his dues" or something like that. Just choose the guy you think should do the job. If Sandberg doesn't like that and feels like he should exit the organization, then that's the way it goes. No hard feelings, best of luck to you.
  12. I remember when we hired Q, some of the talk was that he couldn't win in the big games, couldn't win in the playoffs. You can't win the big games, until suddenly you do win the big games. He's been the right guy at the right time for the Hawks. He still has the stigma that he can't beat Detroit in the playoffs. His alltime record in the playoffs against Detroit is 6-20 and his regular season record against Detroit (not including last season) is 21-49-12. Detroit has also beat a Quenneville coached team in the playoffs during each of their last 4 Stanely Cup championship runs. I guess there will always be something that people can point to. Q can point to his ring.
  13. I remember when we hired Q, some of the talk was that he couldn't win in the big games, couldn't win in the playoffs. You can't win the big games, until suddenly you do win the big games. He's been the right guy at the right time for the Hawks.
  14. I've got the final games of the SJ and PHI series on DVR. Think I'll need to add this one to complete the chain. That's alot of HDD space taken up on my DVR though.
  15. With the virtual death blows to the Cards and White Sox, Id say last night was the best night of this disaster of a season. At least I wont have to endure the Cardinals/White Sox World Series that I was bracing myself for early in the summer. Yeah. I understand the Cards' season was probably in the toilet already, or certainly heading that way, but I actually watched this entire series pretty closely and enjoyed it for the symbolic dagger effect. It kind of felt like the Cards were packing it in. And we were right there to greet them on their way to oblivion. It's pretty sad that's all we have left as Cub fans in 2010, but I'll admit I took pleasure in this series.
  16. Every fan who thinks the rule isn't a good thing is therefore some kind of reverse-homer meatball in your mind. Okay then :-k
  17. That's weird. They really like our defense that much, huh?
  18. Agreed. It was a little much to expect him to hold up against Boldin 1-on-1 in his first NFL action.
  19. Yes, that's EXACTLY what I meant....... Do you want Dempster and Fukudome on this team when they are 35? How about Aramis at 34? Z at 31? The way to rebuild this team is by saving money at THAT point and putting guys around the cheap productive players we have at that point. If you really want to keep a couple of these guys, they could be had for probably haf of their current contracts at that point. Which still would conceivably give the Cubs plenty of money to go out and sign some difference makers as well. The bottom line for me is short of spending tons of money this offseason or next, I don't see us as a contender.(and I son't see Ricketts doing that) Of course, the Cubs won't go the total rebuild job either, so signing Dunn and a few others seems likely honestly. But, I'd love to see you show me how we become true contenders before then at the earliest....... I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm with you. I'm bracing for a couple years of mid-range baseball, in the low 80's in wins and missing the playoffs. Once we clear contracts -- that's when I see the bigger improvement happening.
  20. The Jets remind me a lot of many Bears teams. That defense is going to have to lift them up, it's not going to be the offense. And it could -- provided they find ways to hide that one CB who is obviously in over his head.
  21. Stinger. It looks like a neck thing at first but usually doesn't have much lingering effects. That's a problem for us, I think :) Not one of those matchups I feel good about heading in.
  22. Yes !! Hell, Yes !!! :clapping: :yahoo: \:D/ :yahoo: :clapping: Finally. Well done Wells, and other guys. I watched a little bit and fast forwarded to a point when some guy in the STL booth was talking about the STL way of winning and he started going off on how the Cubs don't have a way of a winning (or some such nonsense) when I think Barney singled to center for an RBI. He tried to keep talking about that subject but then got lost. LOL, that was Lou Brock. He was really incoherent and rambling most of the time.
  23. I think this is the best scenario for Sandberg if he wants to stay in the organization. If he's really determined to leave if he doesn't get the job right away, then I guess you say goodbye and move on.
  24. Huh? Where'd this come from?
  25. I think the Packers will make do with Jackson, pick up a depth guy behind him.
