  1. It's a matter of instinct when things are moving that fast. If you've been taught to hit with the shoulder, and not go up high, then in the heat of that moment your instinct will take over and very likely produce a clean hit. And vice versa. A player will probably have trouble going against what he's been taught to do his whole life.
  2. This is a pretty big deal, IMHO.
  3. Interesting. Earlier in life I was a free spender. Then somewhere along the line I completely flipped, and now I really try to watch my spending. I get that people get involved in trying to fit in and show everyone their success, but at some point the money is flying out the door -- you've got to be a little practical and start reigning it in. I've got little sympathy for someone pulling down a million a year and unable to live within his/her means. Athlete or not. They just simply need to stop spending so much and get it under control.
  4. They only need to win 4 more games for there to be meaningful football in December (in all likelihood). So we'll be strung along until the very end :) And then Lovie will be back for another year.
  5. Well its just like last year. Pretty much after the debacle in Cincinnati everyone pretty much knew things were toast. With all the injuries we had on defense and the inconsistent offense, any good team we placed was going to have their way with us. We started 3-1, lost a close game to Atlanta that actually made me feel good about them and then got embarrassed 45-10 by Cincinnati. I think people kind of sensed what was happening. And before we knew it we had lost 8 of 10 games. This year I feel slightly better than we did last year mostly because the defense will keep us in games, whereas last year any good offense we played I expected them to roll over us every single time they had the ball. I think there was still some hope left before Arizona. At least I remember being at the game and sensing that people still held out hope for a playoff run. Everybody gets one crap game to write off and ignore. But the 2nd blowout in 2 weeks ended everything. This years crap games have not been blowouts, so it is different. But one of these times it's going to happen. I feel like this year's "Cincy game" is definitely coming. Vikings in November, maybe. Patriots should blow us to pieces. It's true, this year has a similar feel to last year. I had nearly forgotten we started out hot last year, too. We ended in such a craphole it was easy to forget where we started. End of December will likely have a similar feel. Sorry to be a negative nancy on this but this team needs to reach at least base levels of competency to inspire confidence. Even your weaknesses need to be shored up to a greater degree than what we're seeing with this OLine. It's not like we're putting empty jerseys out there. Someone get these guys on a practice field until midnight each damn day, drill the schemes into their heads until they get it, and execute on the field better. Get it under control. I don't think that's unreasonable at all. Yes they'll still get beat because they don't have good talent, but brainfarts like we see almost every play? That's ridiculous, and should be solved like.....RIGHT NOW.
  6. I don't know man, but regardless of the 4-2 record I just feel like this club has 6-game losing streak written all over it. Heck, I'm amazed we got to where we are right now. But everyone's got all the tape they need on us now, it's not like we're going to fool anyone moving forward. And our offensive scheme plays right into our weakest aspect.
  7. Aww, now I get to watch my boyhood hero slowly slide off the front page and into oblivion. :bye:
  8. What do you mean by playing games? That play was a huge factor in the safety that occurred on the subsequent play. I mean maybe he isn't even giving a serious answer.
  9. The focus that one play has received is a bit over the top. It was one play. There were dozens where the blocking was horrid. It wouldn't surprise me if Martz is just playing games at this point.
  10. Canuck announcers were worse than Rypien. What the hell are they looking at?
  11. Yep. I almost posted that in the managerial speculation thread :) Ryno looks like he will seek a way to move on from the Cubs. Best of luck to him.
  12. I'm on board with that sentiment.
  13. I don't think they are making a new rule, they are just changing enforcement. Some guys scoffed at the yardage/money penalty. But a suspension might change things. If it's a headshot or something that happens after the ball is gone, then I'm all for it. And I agree there have been too many cases where guys just headhunt and nobody calls them on it, or the punishment is laughable. My understanding is that this will involve something more -- something where refs can throw a flag for a "dangerous" hit. I'd just like a solid definition of what that is, that's all.
  14. Yeah, I fear flags flying with the Ref announcing a 15 yard penalty because a hit was "too destructive" or "too hard" or some nebulous non-defined thing that someone decided they didn't like all of a sudden. Nobody wants to see players get hurt but I thought we already had a definition of penalized hits coming from headshots or after the ball has already passed the receiver and the defender hits him anyway. This seems like a knee jerk reaction that is going to have fairly wide-ranging effects around the league. I'm not what the answer should be, but I don't think it's something that should be decided because someone in the NFL offices didn't like what he saw on Sportscenter last weekend.
  15. Niemi is our own little bomb that we've sent to San Jose to blow up their season. Mwahahahah.
  16. It was 39 degrees in Indy last night. "Some kicker, who got liquored up..." I'd like to hear Peyton's take on all this.
  17. It's a press conference, take it easy. And its still a meaningless phrase. Saying "he knows how to be a Cub" was criteria they looked for in the next manager is ignorant. I hear ya. I don't want to hear that BS too. But it's a press conference, it's bound to be full of cliches and stupid comments. I doubt Quade went into the interview with JH and said things like "I'm the best choice because I know how to be a Cub". Actually now that I think about it, I bet you that crap was discussed. But it nags at me because one possible reason a person makes ignorant comments is because he's actually ignorant. Which is fine if it's a fan. Fine if it's any one of us. Not so fine if it's our owner.
  18. I'm not excited about this, but I'm also thinking it's probably a pretty good arrangement for us right now. Quade gets his chance. It's only 2 years so unless he can work a miracle or two, you re-tool after some contracts expire and make a different hire. If he does manage to outperform expectations, then so much the better. Low expectations FTW.
  19. The UFL dude? Yes. The "age has nothing to do with it, I know the game" dude as well.
  20. I could find it on my DVR with 12:26 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Yes, I suppose that I *could*. However, somehow I seem to have "lost" that particular recording.
  21. Wait, what? How are we favorites?
  22. Cutler's right, and Lovie detects what the safest answer is and just tosses it out there.
  23. I'd love it if the Green Bay meathead crowd succeeded in driving Rodgers from GB, and you wound up with Flynn. Please let that happen.
  24. Senseless.
