  1. Blocking. We suck at it.
  2. Clearly the Bears got better when he left. That's not even a question. The question is why. You have your belief. And I don't think anyone would say it's not at least a part of it. Other factors are that the running game got going, and Cutler hit some passes. Also without 7 step drops, the O-line isn't being asked to do the same things they were last year. Okay, but how did the running game get going? And how did Cutler start hitting some passes. The lack of 7-step drops explains absolutely nothing about what happened in that game. Why are people upset at the suggestion that the Bears benefited from the other team losing a defensive end? Nobody's denying that the Bears benefited. I think everyone would agree that's the case. I just think many of us don't think that's the entire story. That the O-line was able to settle down to some extent and start playing pretty decently. This That's fine. Your original response read more like a denial that Freeney's exit had any effect, to me.
  3. Well, maybe. But if you are trying to find advantage in the idea that Smith does something better than Cutler, I think that's a losing line of thought. You'll be facing a far better QB this week, no question. A worse pass protection line....I'll concede that readily. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this game could be a shootout, and if I'm Green Bay I think I would try to focus on Rodgers out-dueling Cutler, because I feel the offense is still in the plus column for Green Bay all things considered.
  4. It probably should. That line was brutal early and really benefited from him leaving. Yeah, when I saw the original post I was going to respond with something similar. Being as objective as possible, the game definitely seemed to turn once he was off the field.
  5. You know, I've been looking for a good new euphemism for...never mind. Hah :) Yeah...
  6. Maybe he's just trying to say that he showed some flashes, but I think "competitive" is overstating. Yeah, that's too much. I think he (and others) are just trying to find a way of saying they think Luck looked like he will develop and still retains his upside. This week's performance just wasn't noteworthy, but he didn't look bewildered. He looked like a guy who was discovering for the first time that some of the things he relied on in college won't work nearly as well in the NFL. Whether he can take that and advance to the next step will be key.
  7. Struggling to find things to like about the Bengals
  8. Hehehe. The Browns just can't seem to get out of that hole.
  9. 10+++X10+++ Cutler would take heat in any market until he wins a super bowl in that market, and even in several of those markets he would continue to take heat after winning a super bowl. I basically said that in my first sentence, other than the SB part. And yeah I might have undersold the crapfest that has been the Bears QB situation by a good 20 years. It just makes the distinction clearer to me -- how much better Cutler is than what the Bears have had. To me, that horrible QB history just gives less of a reason to carry it over to Jay Cutler.
  10. The environment a Bear QB must endure in Chicago is pretty outrageous. Especially when you compare it to an environment like Green Bay.
  11. I wish it was a trend, but I don't think we can count on it continuing.
  12. ....and even then, he's still got his hand up.
  13. Bernstein is an idiot for making that a topic. Why? The fact that our dumbass fanbase can't get it in their head to shut up while we are on offense is a pretty big, frustrating, deal. Cut 'em some slack, they've never seen offense before.
  14. Sooo glad the pukey Steelers lost. Good job Manning :)
  15. Well, he sure received a heck of a lot of coverage for someone who got plastered and looked pretty mediocre. But I get that he's the #1 pick and everyone wants to hear how he did. If he accounts for 4 turnovers next week too, it's not going to be a great story for him.
  16. Cutler's throw to Jeffrey either gave you wood, or you lack the ability to attain wood.
  17. God I hate ESPN.
  18. Agreed, I'd love to see a tech update to the way games are called. Still though, I haven't seen much in the way of claiming that the regular refs are awesome. It's just that these crews were obviously worse.
  19. Why on earth would he concede that? I agree you could probably take a few weeks and get these guys (and gal, as it were) up to speed, but today I saw blown calls that I've never seen from an NFL crew before. It was absolutely terrible. Sure, nobody "got hurt" and I'm sure that's the weird standard people want to apply, but it shouldn't be. When incredibly blatant false starts aren't noticed, it's obvious the officiating isn't up to par and needs to be addressed (and that's just an example). And I for one don't want to wait until week 8 for it to get better.
  20. Zona wins anyway, but it looks like those refs simply did not know the rules
  21. Oh my god did the refs in zona lose track of the timeouts?
  22. Feels like whenever a team blows that INT chance, the other team comes down and scores
  23. sure but this one is far from over
  24. From what I've seen today, the NFL needs to get the regular refs back.
  25. don't have to!
